  1. I was able to find security updates for RDP7 client that lists Server 2008 SP2 as a compatible product, so there must be an update somewhere. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2813347 However, in the catalog, it does not appear to have one for 2008 SP2.
  2. To make matters worse, a DISK (in mathematics) is the surface area surrounded by a circle. This entire object (the DISK and the Circle) is called a DISC. Also Wikipedia says this: The terms we are used to as in Hard Disk Drive may even be outdated? Isn't the usage of Disk in that name referring to the platter itself and the drive is the mechanism that spins the platter? Of course now we have HDDs with multiple platters, so should it be Hard Disks Drive now? Either way, the only one that is really at fault is the SSD. It has no disks and it has no drives.
  3. I had a test build yesterday to see what kind of drivers were available for Intel 81/87 chipset boards and (as expected) ran into problems. Has anyone else had any luck trying to get XP drivers for these types of boards? For my testing, I had no problem installing XP SP3 x86 on an Asus H87I-PLUS board. I did manage to find the video driver, Intel made GMA XPx86 drivers for DEV_0402. The newer Intel HD Graphics may or may not actually have support for others, such as teh DEV_041E mentioned here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171462-need-intel-hd-graphics-4400-driver-for-windows-xp-32bit/ Only thing about the Intel GMA drivers is that it will not install for the HDMI audio device DEV_2807. Chipset drivers will work, although I don't know about the installer since I just used INFs from my drivers archive. The rest of these I cannot find any XP drivers for* Realtek Audio VEN_10EC&DEV_0887 Intel I217 NIC VEN_8086&DEV_153B Intel USB3 VEN_8086&DEV_8C31
  4. I have my old drives from when my PC had XP in it and I used to have this problem. I had to take ownership of everything, as running applications as Administrator sometimes was not enough.
  5. No problem "Newbie" - Tripredacus
  6. Me neither... until NOW! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161318 It was the first one I found. I think we need more information... 1. What video card? 2. What operating system? 3. What power supply (might be needed, not sure) 4. What model display?
  7. With the version I have here (iron) it won't even let me get to the extension page. It says it is unreachable.
  8. Well the internets says that remoting_host.exe is typically part of something called Chrome Remote Desktop. You can verify this by locating this file and check its properties. I do not know if this is part of a standard Chrome install. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrome_Remote_Desktop Do you, Firefox Fanatic, have Google Chrome installed?
  9. Sure. In that case, Windows 95 and 98 have Aero as well.
  10. Well to be fair, it based the ads based on what he searched. If he was searching for bird cages instead that day, he'd see ads for those and not even notice. Just hope he doesn't have Facebook, where it also shows you ads based on what you put into status and replies. That's why I just post pictures there now.
  11. Can you post a screenshot? Did you try Ctrl+F5 to force a refresh?
  12. So are they saying that an XP PC will receive no updates at all, even for the software that is installed? I always figured that IE and Office updates could potentially still show up, even if no OS updates were being made.
  13. That update breaker also affected Forefront clients updating through WSUS. That article is funny, like this part: Compared to this: Which is from MSSE's EULA. It only allows for that or home use, as MS wants you to use ForeFront for business use.
  14. I used to walk similar distances in previous work, but never thought about using a step counter.
  15. This is how to become a moderator. Post on forum. Then one day someone on the staff sends you a PM and asks if you want to be a moderator. Simple.
  16. When I worked for an ISP, we used to use a metaphor that the mail exchangers were like one of those fish traps. You know the type where the fish goes in but can't get out, even though you (as a human) can look and see how you could get out? So emails getting stuck in the mail exchanger probably was never actually what was happening, but that didn't stop us from telling people that.
  17. Hopefully this means someday soon I can detach my Youtube account from Google+. Then hopefully it will no longer be disabled due to "names policy" and I can comment on videos again.
  18. Would like to see what partitions exist for Disk 0 using Diskpart. Where did Acronis fit into this? Do you indeed have a c:\recovery\windowsre\winre.wim at that location?
  19. WinPE should follow the basic system requirements of the OS it was created from. So for WinPE4/5, it would match the CPU requirements of Windows 8. So I think you would be correct. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/system-requirements Obviously the other reqs are invalid, although you probably do need 1GB for a 64bit PE4/5 to function properly.
  20. There are some major drawbacks to Peltier cooling that either haven't been fixed or are in products that are not commonly available or are expensive. http://www.heatsink-guide.com/peltier.htm
  21. You know, this came up before. I am testing a WinPE5 image with all our hardware now, with the intention of replacing the WinPE4 image. If our XP and DOS images do not deploy, it will be a problem. I suspect it will come down to how we are using it. For example, what applications are you running? Are you using DISM or Imagex or something else? And even if this is the case, why couldn't you just use one of the older binaries instead?
  22. There are some things I'm confused about. What OS came with the notebook originally? If it was Windows 8.1, it seems odd that it would be out of warranty already. It obviously had Windows 8.1 on it prior to installing the "OEM" version, as it is mentioned in the XML data. Normally, when you update an 8 to 8.1, a second (bootable) recovery partition is created, but that doesn't show up in your diskpart screenshot. Was one of the recovery partitions deleted prior to this problem? Booting into the remaining partition shouldn't be too difficult, but you'll need to post the results from BCDEDIT /ENUM ALL You can use this thread for some reference, as there is little difference between 7 and 8: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171410-how-to-repair-a-broken-windows-7-recovery-partition/
  23. There is a limit on the main profile page. However on the menu on the left, if you click on Friends there it will show all of them.
  24. Interesting. Recently I had come across another person who wanted to try making a miniature arcade machine using a GameBoy Color and some iPhone add-on. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?51324-How-to-build-an-arcade-machine-with-an-Arcadie-Photos-inside
