  1. I think the only reason you would skip user creation would be if you are enabling the Administrator account. Otherwise, if you don't enable the Administrator account, you won't be able to log into the OS. I do not know what kind of disk space you would be saving by removing the UAC components. Are you dealing with a small hard disk?
  2. Ah, there is no "old" driver for the 9 series MEI, or at least one that doesn't support Windows 8. I suspect that your older PE is missing a dependent file. You can try booting into your PE, and run Depends on the 3 .sys files the driver injects to see if you are missing something. You could also compare those findings to what the results are from the WinPE4 since Depends will give false positives. These files are called out in the INF: [SourceDisksFiles.x86]TeeDriver.sys=1,.\x86HECI.sys=1,.\x86wdfcoinstaller01011.dll=1,.\x863f3ca95b-3978-4168-b47b-5444f42d6c89.devicemetadata-ms= 1,, ;A metadata package file for EN - Win846a6fdbe-c823-4579-bab6-35f67e01f793.devicemetadata-ms= 1,, ;A metadata package file for EN - Win7[SourceDisksFiles.amd64]TeeDriverx64.sys=1,.\x64HECIx64.sys=1,.\x64wdfcoinstaller01011.dll=1,.\x643f3ca95b-3978-4168-b47b-5444f42d6c89.devicemetadata-ms= 1,, ;A metadata package file for EN - Win846a6fdbe-c823-4579-bab6-35f67e01f793.devicemetadata-ms= 1,, ;A metadata package file for EN - Win7 Another way to troubleshoot that would allow for easier work would be to re-create your WinPE3 using Make_PE so you have a better Windows interface. Intel has a newer MEI driver than what you are using: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23746〈=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20%2864-bit%29*&DownloadType=Drivers
  3. Also, look into trying to use an older driver to use in the older WinPE. You should try finding them on Intel's site. If you can't find an older one, post the HwID of the PCI device.
  4. Also test multiple connections with IE. HTTP URL, HTTPS URL, IP, local path and even an FTP address.
  5. Well, I get the same message on Microsoft sites. So we can give those guys some slack.
  6. Welcome to the MSFN!
  7. I had it backwards! I'm no expert on Nintendo things. That Wii I was thinking of, the Wii Mini (originally sold in Canada) didn't have WiFi at all. Reading more on this, it renders some games absolutely useless. However, the titles lead me to believe they weren't really popular games. Nintendo has a whole slew of games in an unwanted category less appealing to collectors than sports games! Fortunately, it doesn't make the thing completely useless: http://www.forbes.com/sites/amitchowdhry/2014/02/27/nintendo-to-shut-down-wi-fi-connection-service-for-wii-and-ds-in-may/
  8. I've also come across supposed "scareware" news stories about this bug. Something not about how the C&Cs were taken by law enforcement, but that some specific day to come will lock users out of their computers. At least users in the UK (from this unfortunately titled Reg article) have only 2 weeks to clean their PC before some unforseen doom happens. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/02/nca_gameoverzeus_cryptolocker_warning/
  9. This makes me wonder about those newish red-colored Wiis that were online only. They were just selling those a year or so ago. Will they now be found in the same piles as WebTV?
  10. It is my understanding that HID Pairing of devices is tied to the behaviour of the hardware manufacturer's companion app, which is per user. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/bg182882.aspx So what exactly do you mean by it stops working? You say you have a dual-boot, does the keyboard not work on that other OS? What is that other OS?
  11. That's hardly what I would consider a news story. How long after SP1 did Windows 7 SP1 outrank Windows 7 RTM?
  12. At that first page of Setup (language selection) go into CMD and take a look-see at the Setup log files. It seems to me that it does not see the XML file. Try using a fully qualified path to the XML file in your Setup command.
  13. I don't think there is a way to import an index into a WIM. But you can either replace the install.wim, or do an Append capture into the install.wim if it is in a writable location.
  14. So something is killing BFE. What is your antivirus? Can you try with it removed? Also of your other anti-spyware apps, do you have either of them to do an active scan?
  15. Don't like the idea of posting a .reg file to a post. Here is the key: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; This empty registry key lets Microsoft Security Essentials install on POSReady 2009. ; Tested with ENUS\x86\MSEInstall.exe version 4.5.216.0 published 2014-04-08 downloaded ; from http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=5201 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Microsoft Security Client]
  16. I use WMI to determine manufacturer and model and them use appropriate scripts based on those values. I don't use WMIC, I use Autoit, but the result is the same. I also can't share specifics but I can give you a basic idea. After imaging is complete, detect the hardware. Then copy the driver/application set to the system. On first boot, I have another program that looks for what needs to be installed and runs the appropriate commands.
  17. Well, the password hint is an option to remind you of what the password is.... so telling us the hint is kinda silly. What is the operating system?
  18. does a Z drive exist? What is Z drive?
  19. First, the BCDBoot command in the examples should use the /s switch. The rest, I guess is out of scope for this topic. It was a long time ago, but it had to do with what GPT attributes to set on the recovery partition and when to set them.
  20. Are they? In any case the procedure is the same. jaclaz It isn't exactly the same. I ran into a problem attempting to implement those procedures initially (and also from the //BUILD/ material) and found errors. Anyways, I bring this up because if the OS on the PC is pre-installed by an OEM, the publicly documented procedures may not work exactly as described in those articles.
  21. What is the operating system? Those articles are aimed at specific types of OS, such as OEM System Builder Kit or Enterprise.

  23. It must be possible. At least Yahoo! has the option to use the web-based Yahoo! Mail as your default mail client. I never did it myself as I have not used an actual email client in so long that I have gotten away from the practice of clicking on email links.
  24. I just did some testing. After my first deployment there were 10 Windows Boot Manager entries. Firmware Boot Manager---------------------identifier {fwbootmgr}displayorder {bootmgr} {27fa5fbc-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb4-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb5-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb6-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb7-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb8-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb9-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fba-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fbb-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f} {27fa5fb3-e5c1-11e3-a481-0090f5e7d27f}timeout 2And when I reinstall, I have 10 again. Firmware Boot Manager---------------------identifier {fwbootmgr}displayorder {bootmgr} {4e026ab9-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab1-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab2-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab3-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab4-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab5-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab6-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab7-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab8-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f} {4e026ab0-e5c7-11e3-acb3-0090f5e7d27f}timeout 2I used Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with Update 1, disk cleaned by Diskpart, image applied by DISM. I don't currently have a system that hasn't had an EFI deployment done to it to see what a new system would be like.
