  1. When a raster image is shrunk and then saved, the now unused data is deleted from the file. This is why you can't resize then afterwards. There are *some* cases where the information is retained but typically unavailable. For example, Program1 can read this data and the image can be resized in Program1 (or only if in the native format) but cannot by other programs. A practical example of this behaviour is with Fireworks PNG files (as a vector format) can be re-opened and changed in Fireworks but not by other PNG capable programs like Paint or Photoshop. Image (like video) upscaling does exist and is described here: http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/~raananf/projects/lss_upscale/paper.pdf But since you are relying on a program to enlarge the image for you, results may vary. For use on a webpage it may not be ideal because you can see the blending effect up close. Same would be for photo printing, but poster printing may be acceptable as long as you don't get to close. However, some people are more sensitive to image quality than others. An example is that some can live with connecting a VCR to an HD TV but others cannot stand it and would insist on using a VCR on an SD TV or maybe using an upscaler on an HD TV.
  2. The install.wim from Media Creation cannot be serviced with DISM (or related API) as they are ESD files.
  3. I mean, I think you can with SBS or similar OS. The user's complaint of not being able to stop the OS from going online prior to first boot up is wrong too. You just disconnect the Ethernet cable (or use a private LAN) and choose skip when asked to connect to a wireless network. I do that every time when I do Win10 testing.
  4. When was the last time Windows let you set a static IP in OOBE?
  5. There are 2 methods I use for adding files. One is to mount the wim and put the files in there. For a quicker way sometimes I have files on a network share or copy from a deployed image in order to run. As for drivers, I only add what I specifically need in order to keep sizes down. Some others like to add driver packs for mass storage or LAN, especially if they are going to be using their WinPE in a repair shop type scenario and may not know exactly what hardware they are going to be running on.
  6. Does Windows Update show the size of the update correctly? A lot of times I will see an update appear that is already in the image, but it will be smaller. For example, on Windows 7 images, SP1 may appear but be 4MB.
  7. My install doesn't have fonts for that locale either. Also there is no appropriate localisation for DISM, which you can find in the Deployment Tools folder. I also checked my ADK 10 install but it appears to be English only.
  8. It is the wrong DISM.exe. The one from the OS doesn't have /capture-image. In your AIK install, you need the DISM files from Tools\{arch}\Servicing. However you can also use the DISM from newer ADK too.
  9. If you make your own WinPE, it will boot to a command prompt by itself. This is handled by the startnet.cmd where you can put in your own menu. For modifying a Setup boot.wim, I'm not sure. I never figured out how that worked exactly. For using a winre.wim, you can add custom actions to the RECENV menu, as mentioned here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/142990-installing-windows-7-from-recovery-partition/#entry918385
  10. Perhaps due to all drivers having certificates, and Windows checks to see if certs are valid?
  11. You should put words that are not yours into quotes. I can't tell what is your writing without them.
  12. RocketTab may also be an extension added to your browser. What steps have you taken already? Malwarebytes should be able to remove this.
  13. Try doing a capture with DISM instead.
  14. Have you run SFC already? Is this on a clean install or a modified OS? You've posted about that before and makes me wonder.
  15. The guy on Anandtech got his post contents from a post by a user on another forum. That user then later said a mistake was made. Either way, it is FUD unless actual proof can be shown.
  16. It seems that a file copy bug from the Windows NT 4 days still exists in Windows 10. KB source: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/195144 Better write-up with example regarding this behaviour with Robocopy from Wikipedia:Talk: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3ARobocopy#More_details.2C_please.2C_on_.22Robocopy_doesn.27t_reliably_copy_short_filenames..22 A user finding this issue with Windows 10: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f72f82bb-7131-461e-b766-e5b401598a4d/file-explorer-loses-files-and-overwrites-wrong-files-when-copying?forum=win10itprogeneral Seems to be an odd thing that was fixed for NT4, 2000 and Win95 but (presumably) no OSes after that.
  17. What is your licensing type for the VLSC download, KMS or MAK? In either case you would have a product key to put in the XML which would hide that prompt. This was how it was for earlier OS versions, where choosing to skip entering the product key would not mean the OS would activate afterwards. The Productkey you need in your XML is the activation key that you use in the Specialize pass. This will hide the Product Key prompt in OOBE.
  18. Re-enables powercfg Wake Settings: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5db1f11d-3d0a-4cd7-8cc2-dd91296a1be7/windows-updates-reenable-wakearmed-state-for-mouse-keyboard-and-nic-why?forum=win10itprogeneral Although it seems those particular settings being changed by updates goes back to Windows 7.
  19. What is your WinPE that you are capturing with? Using WDS default? MDT? Custom PE with DISM or Imagex?
  20. Doubtful. You are using the OS made from Media Creator or another source? The normal (manual) method of installing Windows 10 from the Free Upgrade ISO is to skip the product key entry. When this is done, then it uses a runtime key. I can only imagine this is where you got your ISO from, as if you got it from any other legitimate source you'd have the correct Product Keys to put in the XML.
  21. If you use the download tool, I noticed it will automatically download the required updates before attempting to install Windows 10. After finding this method, I never try to get the update to show in Windows Update, because sometimes even after you get GWX onto the system, you STILL can't get it to install Windows 10. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade Run the program that is downloaded from the Upgrade Now button.
  22. The only 2 things I am sure about are slight GUI differences. However there are some bugs that exist in 10240 that I haven't had the chance to test in 10586, or seen anyone else test yet.
  23. This topic is to track thing that the Windows 10 10586 update has been changing when applied to previous Windows 10 versions. Removes touchpad and printer drivers: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0fa60d9e-ad1c-4e5e-b25f-737d1ba23bb7/window-10-ver-1511-upgrade-overwrites-device-drivers-need-to-reinstall-again?forum=win10itprosetup Resets file associations/default apps, re-enables Fast Startup: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/3sr2es/psa_warning_the_windows_10_fall_update_resets_all/ Resets privacy settings: http://betanews.com/2015/11/14/has-windows-10-november-update-threshold-2-reset-your-privacy-settings-and-default-apps/ If you find any other changes like this, feel free to post them here.
  24. I did a Windows 10 upgrade test a couple days ago from Windows 8.1 and it upgraded to 10586 version of Windows 10. One thing different I noticed was that the context menu for the Start button is skinned differently now.
  25. Ok I was just checking and the RAM is non-ECC. Sometimes (some versions, some situations) running memtest on ECC memory can generate errors. It doesn't seem to be the case for you here. At least there are 2 pieces in there, if one goes bad you only have to replace the one.
