  1. Also while you can take ownership of the entire OS if you wanted, services and applications will take back ownership as it sees fit.
  2. I would not recommend disabling Task Scheduler. Which edition of Vista do you have? To see what tasks you have, go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Task Scheduler.
  3. Try to find an ISO for a Live CD like Knoppix, Puppy, Ubuntu, etc. Then you boot your computer from that and it will run a Linux OS. Then remove the AC power and see what the screen does.
  4. Input locale is invalid. <component name="Microsoft-Windows-International-Core-WinPE" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <SetupUILanguage> <UILanguage>en-us</UILanguage> </SetupUILanguage> <InputLocale>0409:00000409</InputLocale> <SystemLocale>en-us</SystemLocale> <UILanguage>en-us</UILanguage> <UserLocale>en-US</UserLocale> </component>
  5. Try using a Linux live CD and see if you can see the same results.
  6. I never understand this complaint. Maybe it comes down to personal usage, but when I am using my computers I rarely am just viewing the desktop.
  7. I haven't had the chance to try anything out yet, but I still have some questions. 1. You mention you have a monitor with SCART input. Are your displays running in NTSC or PAL? 2. I think it would be useful to have the model numbers of the monitors you are having trouble with so that specs/capabilities can be compared. Its usually difficult to find two people with the exact same setups. Regarding your mods, you should release them! But only do so with the understanding that you will not be concerned that people do not like it or have complaints. I've released mods before and it was a fun time for me. Another possibility is that the game may support different resolutions in menu vs the 3d engine in gameplay. I've seen this happen before but it didn't result in a CTD.
  8. Just to be certain, in your experience, Thief DP is actually crashing? Not where you launch the game, the screen goes dark and you can't see anything? Are you using Thief Dark Project with no patches or Gold edition? Take a look-see at these: A few patches to allow the game to run at higher resolutions: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449 Mentions setting a .cfg file to a certain resolution: http://alt.games.thief-dark-project.narkive.com/R0FW9qAi/thief-gold-resolutions
  9. What monitor are you using? I will have to look to see if I still have Thief. I know I have the demo.
  10. I believe that any PC where the user chooses "Recommended Settings" in OOBE, or where the OS uses an XML and specifies ProtectYourPC 1, will automatically get this. Of course we have seen instances where sometimes the GWX update shows up as being Important as well.

  12. Topic split from: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174415-aero-glass-for-win81-141/
  13. It primarily acts as my backup, as it was the primary HDD in my old computer. I will back it up this weekend just in case.
  14. You can do this with a router if you have one. I would recommend doing it at the router level anyways, especially if you have multiple computers on your network.
  15. One of my disks is showing a caution. Should I be replacing this disk or just keep an eye on it?

  17. Well you should create another admin account on there just in case the primary one becomes unusable in the future.
  18. CCC won't work unless you can enable the Radeon adapter. Read through here, it is the same problem you are facing. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/158858-drivers-for-new-computers/page-2 Note: the issue was not solved then either.
  19. We had a problem with some avatars this week. You'll need to change yours again. The Newbie is a default rank and it is based on post count. You may be able to change it in your profile settings.
  20. Back when switchable graphics first came out and worked with XP, you had to change the default video adapter in the BIOS. Modern OSes (and drivers) allow the change to happen in the OS. This might also be the problem. See in your BIOS if you can change your video adapter.
  21. Good you got it fixed! Sometimes when this happens Windows will actually show a message at login about profile corruption or use of a Temporary account, or sometimes the username is actually Temp.
  22. See if this thread helps any: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/154025-connecting-a-windows-98-and-windows-7-through-a-network/
  23. There doesn't appear to be XP drivers on HP's website. Can you post the Hardware ID of the Intel video card?
  24. It sounds like the main user account is corrupted. When this happens, Windows will log in with a temporary account. Look at the possible next steps here: http://superuser.com/questions/138402/temp-profile-used-when-user-logs-in
  25. For all the Windows 10 Upgrade (from Win7) testing I did, I was never asked to log in or create a Microsoft account. So the local account from Win7 was the default account then in Windows 10. Maybe it has to do with situations like that?
