  1. Have you run SFC already? Is this on a clean install or a modified OS? You've posted about that before and makes me wonder.
  2. The guy on Anandtech got his post contents from a post by a user on another forum. That user then later said a mistake was made. Either way, it is FUD unless actual proof can be shown.
  3. It seems that a file copy bug from the Windows NT 4 days still exists in Windows 10. KB source: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/195144 Better write-up with example regarding this behaviour with Robocopy from Wikipedia:Talk: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3ARobocopy#More_details.2C_please.2C_on_.22Robocopy_doesn.27t_reliably_copy_short_filenames..22 A user finding this issue with Windows 10: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f72f82bb-7131-461e-b766-e5b401598a4d/file-explorer-loses-files-and-overwrites-wrong-files-when-copying?forum=win10itprogeneral Seems to be an odd thing that was fixed for NT4, 2000 and Win95 but (presumably) no OSes after that.
  4. What is your licensing type for the VLSC download, KMS or MAK? In either case you would have a product key to put in the XML which would hide that prompt. This was how it was for earlier OS versions, where choosing to skip entering the product key would not mean the OS would activate afterwards. The Productkey you need in your XML is the activation key that you use in the Specialize pass. This will hide the Product Key prompt in OOBE.
  5. Re-enables powercfg Wake Settings: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5db1f11d-3d0a-4cd7-8cc2-dd91296a1be7/windows-updates-reenable-wakearmed-state-for-mouse-keyboard-and-nic-why?forum=win10itprogeneral Although it seems those particular settings being changed by updates goes back to Windows 7.
  6. What is your WinPE that you are capturing with? Using WDS default? MDT? Custom PE with DISM or Imagex?
  7. Doubtful. You are using the OS made from Media Creator or another source? The normal (manual) method of installing Windows 10 from the Free Upgrade ISO is to skip the product key entry. When this is done, then it uses a runtime key. I can only imagine this is where you got your ISO from, as if you got it from any other legitimate source you'd have the correct Product Keys to put in the XML.
  8. If you use the download tool, I noticed it will automatically download the required updates before attempting to install Windows 10. After finding this method, I never try to get the update to show in Windows Update, because sometimes even after you get GWX onto the system, you STILL can't get it to install Windows 10. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade Run the program that is downloaded from the Upgrade Now button.
  9. The only 2 things I am sure about are slight GUI differences. However there are some bugs that exist in 10240 that I haven't had the chance to test in 10586, or seen anyone else test yet.
  10. This topic is to track thing that the Windows 10 10586 update has been changing when applied to previous Windows 10 versions. Removes touchpad and printer drivers: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0fa60d9e-ad1c-4e5e-b25f-737d1ba23bb7/window-10-ver-1511-upgrade-overwrites-device-drivers-need-to-reinstall-again?forum=win10itprosetup Resets file associations/default apps, re-enables Fast Startup: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/3sr2es/psa_warning_the_windows_10_fall_update_resets_all/ Resets privacy settings: http://betanews.com/2015/11/14/has-windows-10-november-update-threshold-2-reset-your-privacy-settings-and-default-apps/ If you find any other changes like this, feel free to post them here.
  11. I did a Windows 10 upgrade test a couple days ago from Windows 8.1 and it upgraded to 10586 version of Windows 10. One thing different I noticed was that the context menu for the Start button is skinned differently now.
  12. Ok I was just checking and the RAM is non-ECC. Sometimes (some versions, some situations) running memtest on ECC memory can generate errors. It doesn't seem to be the case for you here. At least there are 2 pieces in there, if one goes bad you only have to replace the one.
  13. It appears that those 4 tasks are owned by the SYSTEM account. Only SYSTEM has Full Control of them in the registry. Running Task Scheduler as Administrator doesn't seem to be enough for them to show up. Maybe if you run schtasks.exe as System you could see them? Take a look at the answer on here for Windows 8: http://superuser.com/questions/497983/windows-8-waking-issues-maintenance-configurator-task-cannot-be-changed-or-d The elevation trick doesn't work for me.
  14. The .7z file shown as a topic tag returns no google results besides this thread.
  15. I doubt the RAM got warm enough to pull off what you are thinking. I also don't think memtest fixed anything. I have seen it where memtest will pass/fail with various configurations. For example, memtest would pass running tests on 2 sticks individually, but fail when they are together. Can you post a CPU-Z shot of the memory and SPD tabs?
  16. Setupcomplete.cmd does not work on some editions, notably OEM ones. I'm guessing that would only leave Retail and VL editions, but not sure about the one made with Media Creator.
  17. IIRC, you get locked out of the OS. I'm also fairly certain that internet activation is available on XP, but otherwise I do know telephone activation is an option.
  18. I have never tried max compress, but I cannot tell the difference between none vs fast. From the Win7 WAIK:
  19. Java and Javascript are two different things.
  20. Well consider it this way. When you get the free upgrade to Windows 10, you are then no longer using the OS that HP put on your computer. Even the recovery partition/software will no longer work. If the OS became un-usable, you'd still have to roll back to your previous version of Windows to run recovery. And if you can't (past 30 days, etc) then you're stuck. Even during my days at Sony (the 2nd time), if a customer had changed the OS they put on their VAIO, then the support was only limited to the hardware unless you were feeling nice/bored that day.
  21. Here it is with ftp you can run from cmd. Note you actually type in the word anonymous when prompted for username.
  22. Each forum page may scripts from 3 companies: - Facebook (3) - Amazon (1) - Google (5) Any one of the scripts could load slow, causing this. In this case, your browser should show a "loading/waiting for" in the lower left saying what it may be stuck on. FWIW I don't get this happening here either, but I've seen it on other sites from time to time.
  23. Downgrades are at the time of purchase. In order to do a downgrade after the fact, the entire system would have to be returned to the effect that it was purchased with the wrong OS installed. Downgrades after the fact (of which I am uncertain why MS even decided to write rules for) are totally in the hands of the end user.
  24. What happens when you uninstall the program that fortimon.sys is included in? It is difficult to say without a .DMP file. Also what OS are you using?
  25. When you click on the speaker in the taskbar, then click on the slider, it makes a ding sound.
