  1. Going way off topic, but nice topic anyway, suggest we either stop here or start new thread =) I see your point Kels. I also see that Right out of the box you say, i have my portable emulators already setup and ready to go anyway. As in no installs, no sweat.
  2. I hope you are not reffering to me newsposter? I'm afraid you are jumping to conclusions, there are several shades of gray here, how much ram you actually have, what os, and if any other things have been modified, as in tweaked. Also this has already been tested to death and proved by people that gave you Driver Net.
  3. I typically had this error when i had installed wmp hotfix that was not properly integrated by booogy. Which seems to have been fixed as of late. And tbh, it's hardly necessary to install any of the sdk updates in the first place for most people.
  4. I dont believe there is such a limit, and at least i have run win xp with several admin accounts and using fast user switching on the merry-go-around. Works flawless. Have no idea where that 'idea' came from. I seem to repeat myself, but i would keep services as system event notification, so that windows is kept ajour on whats happening. Last session?
  5. Then check into getting rid of the dependencies for the network list and them 3 others so u still have internet/lan functionality. There's just so much bloat in vista =( Just about anything you can think of, is enabled as default in vista, just so MS has all bases covered =( I had vista running at 12 services with internet and all working, but seriously it requires too much effort for any average joey to get it working proper, as in the eNLIGHTeD way. I'd say when you can run a .net fully able vista with all eye-candy and that crap that makes vista, vista, at about 500MB and still have most support, it mature as nlite today is. (Nlite is on the verge of becoming a lot better i think). Atm that is about 1500mb here, but requires about 250 tweaks not counting group policy edits. I got that number by counting all my .reg exports. It's just insane, i love tweaking, but when you feel you have to start resource hacking because its just plain silly the stuff u get to see wandering about in registry and inf files etc, gahw. A couple of more vlite versions perhaps by winter, things are looking brighter..
  6. Can you name specific models of these printers? And have you tried a custom install of the drivers? Seems kind of excessive for a driver to require that such "functionality" is kept.
  7. I would suggest keeping service such as system event viewer and similar, as from the get-go you boot windows up until login till you have logged in windows gets updated on whats where. Also posting last session.ini's where 99% is removed, isnt helpful, it would be nice if people could remove all languages and keyboard information from them as its regardless not the culprit. I would check into Network diagnostic service, most because im curious of it, but seems new to me? im not sp3 however. not xp 32bit even.
  8. Kicking a**! GJ Now if i only had a copy of powerpoint i'd be happy to verify it, tho lol, i cant stand MS apps apart from windows itself =) Which i try to get as small as possible, and then disguise it ;D AFAIK powerpoint is however very much used program. Getting the font as an optional component, would be cool. However, having said that, how many years have we waited for separate Print drivers? =)) I only need the generic driver, but nuhi did it with vista, you can keep generic printer driver, so im hoping we can see that in Nlite soon. Once again, Good job!
  9. THIS has nothing to do with nlite per se. You have made an incorrect burn of your cd/dvd media. Please burn again, check to verify writes, and you're good to go. You can also hold your cd/dvd media up against VERY bright light, if you simply can spot small (look close) transparent (or not) holes in the media, i suggest finding a replacement and thrashing it for good. I would also suggest to you to actually read what the picture you here enclose says. As in burn with another disc.
  10. Microsoft is very good with finding selling points, cant say otherwise.
  11. Awesome. That would be cool. Plz post back especially if you found out if indeed there is a special font that is needed. Also nuhi you should pm about that. Good job sir!
  12. If you configure manual static ip adress you can remove dhcp/dns. I wouldnt remove dns and dhcp if you use it on a laptop f.ex and usually keep changing to different networks. Would only make life unnecessary difficult. For home usage, same adsl modem, everything static, no reasion to keep it unless u cba to set manual ip adresses.
  13. Essentially to cut things short here, you NEED to have both off to get full effect to get closer to understanding what i am talking about =) Keeping waepb service running = higher latency of sound then if off... IF however, you like sound effects, think having stuff like EAX sound effects, you will need at least waepb service enabled. Possibly both services. you can however, set manual effects yourself. Also third party tools will most likely work, remember its WINDOWS services/software here, not something from your sound card manufacturer. Unless things are written to depend on this from other third party software, nothing should stop you basically. I have a x2 5000 black edition (overclocks awesome), and i had no trouble running without both. Im running with Azalia chip enabled in bios, doesnt matter for sound per se, but check if you have it. While people around the world are reporting that disabling mmcs helps filecopy speeds and what not, i tested to some extent that when also stopping the waepb service, latency of sound dropped quite much. I could literally hear the difference while in games, and i was complete awe of the difference between i could react to sound. I checked with quake 3, which is very old game, and as you might know is a *VERY* tweakable game. You can change about 800 settings, not including making binds/scripts/modification cvars. So anwz, i tweaked sound to be played a half second before it was started, i cant explain it otherwise, and to my complete suprise i reached a new low there at a sustainable 0.4 seconds sounds being played off before they was actually played. I tested several times and found it very playable with 0.25 pre-playing or what i should call it, of sound. It totally kills fps (afaik max 300fps but more then enough) as cpu is being really pushed every millisecond, but gawd. Fatal1ty would killed to have that tweaked out setup. Imagine that you hear everything, only 0.4 seconds faster then your enemy. I couldnt get anywhere near that without waepb and mmcs disabled and forgotten. If you are going to stay with vista for the time being, and you like games a bit more then your average office package, i'd strongly suggest you do everything you can to these two services stopped, keeping only windows audio service enabled. Possibly one of the other reasons why i was so successfull is because i had done a lot of tweaking to windows, but things like keeping aero theme off or disabled, doesnt really matter after sp1 of vista. What i found that actually played a difference, was tweaking , of all things, the Easy of Access handicap settings. Tweak that and combined with max performance of gui settings is a winner. Also if gaming, Keep windows desktop manager enabled, it's a must, long story. another time perhaps. Now, on this same setup, and i have also a x-fi extreme gamer sound card. It was able to hold a 10fps faster in timedemos, on a really maxxed out quality settings, and not much different on low end gfx settings. Really disappointing but then again i kinda had that feeling it always was overrated. And thats also another story.. Happy tweaking!
  14. And that's an important license rule there. I dont think nuhi needs companies suing him because they broke their windows =) Also MS itself probably has something against using nlite in a corporate enviroment. However small.
  15. Lol i had forgotten its name, but still, nailed that one imho =) However, while you are at it, if you dont mind, perhaps you could do some research and try to figure out exactly what font is needed to keep powerpoint happy? This would be great if you could accomplish that. Basically to figure that out, just move all the fonts out of xp folder\fonts and move 1 and 1 back in, until powerpoint shows the formula and what not, correctly. Or maybe even, it says what font is being used in powerpoint, somewhere. Or can you try to change the font? I have no idea =) You might need restarting in between, or get some program to flush memory in between moving fonts. It would be great to know if powerpoint needs one special font or two or 3 or so, and then maybe perhaps nuhi can make it a optional component in itself. you see? All for the common good =)
  16. I'm really into old time games myself, afaik my collection is devastating huge. But understand, i love technology, and thus fiddling and toying with it. Staying still is not of my strenghts.. =( I was on Vista x64 here for awhile, been there a few times, but HP has decided to not produce a driver for either my scanner or my printer. But the drivers exist for x64 xp, kinda weird. Also i have tried using the AMD SATA controller driver for Vista on x64 and it works just fine. Just great. But then again, i recently nlited my new x64xp and the refreshing speed of booting time, under 10 seconds, and no problems getting 65536 tcp/ip half open connections, and the usb hz patch provided by nlite graciously. It's just kick a**. When vista matures, and im hoping it will of course, ill be there. But atm, i was constantly finding myself actually *missing* features and perks that i could bring to the os with the lovely nlite. And as i recently managed to properly getting rid of firewall on x64 and still keeping LAN support, its just awesome. Getting close to 10 processes at 1st boot and about 70mb memory usage with vista theme enabled is just way out of vista's capability atm. And ram isnt a problem, but i love seeing how low system latency can go. get hold of DPC latency checker, and start trying to make really lite xp with vista, and check that latency. How low u can go on that, is my goal. Currently at well below 100 (peak) there and everything running, including burning dvd, running vmware etc.
  17. Here we go: 1. Toshiba PCI IDE Controller (I have a Toshiba notebook but install my own drivers) Actually i have not seen that Nlite actually removes this, I can always see PCI ide controller regardless if i tick to remove it. Dont need the general of drivers on old windows cd's. Read: Pre-vista. Vista is carrying with it some legacy drivers that work for devices 'which have no drivers from their makers. Delete, delete... 2. Web Folders - does anyone really need this? No it never really took off, probably still needed for Active Desktop, but really, i dont intend to surf the net with an active homepage being downloaded and integrated into my desktop. Talk about security hole! 3. Extensible Authentication Protocol Service Yep another service not really needed for normal internet usage. For home users, remove, for corporate/domain/school, keep. 4. Health Key and Certificate Management Service I remove certificate managment in x64, its all good, tho i dont care to download certificates from website to verify that i can trust the website. I trust my eyes, not some certificate, lol. Long story cut short tho. Safe to remove per se. 5. Network Access Protection (NAP) Im on x64 but dont have this service. Its copied from vista i guess. Safe to remove if normal tcp ip usage is all u need. 6. Route Listening Service Isnt this also known as RIP service in router/modem? I never use it, safe to remove. 7. Wired AutoConfig I connect to public Wi-Fi networks and to LAN networks occasionally. Here is the small bug (nbtstat.exe is listed two times): good job finding such things =) 8. I can't see formulas in PowerPoint presentations. What component is required to display them properly? Looks like a font issue? I dont powerpoint im afraid =( I heard OpenOffice alternative are just as good tbh. I would try checking if input method manager and those utils are maybe needed. Still, im clueless on powerpoint.
  18. I got a bit curious about the wmp11 integration. So now, after a bit research, i am finally making the iso with xp x64 sp2 very very lite, with wmp11 *without* wmp network/sharing services and some .bmp and .jpg picture files. Saves 1 windows service, or 2 perhaps, some megabyte space, about 15-20 files or so. Crossing fingers =) New version 1.2.3 or so, out of booogy slipstreamer, so first run with that. Out of all the hotfixes on the booogy wmp site, about 16 of them are possible to install on x64, however, i took up the subject with Kurt, and basically you will never need so many hotfixes. I choose to update just the 4 as thats what windows update will give you. A really good effort by Kurt there. I've tried to click on all possible things in options in wmp11, but cant reproduce that error =(
  19. Ok. But there is no way i can delete the files on the booogy'ed xp image? edit: i can't find any of the network stuff inside wmp.inf... edit2: found it in the wmp11ext.inf Also i see : PROGRAMFILES = "Program Files (x86)" inside there, is that a static addressing? Afaik on each fresh install now i get 2 empty folders, as i use custom folders , just PF instead of program files. Edit3: i edited and removed stuff from wmp11.cab and wmp11ext.in_ and repackaged with iZarc. Works miracles! Looks great in the VmWare install! Kickass! Now if i only could find out where the Windows Media Portable serial number service resides from, and remove that, this would be sweet!
  20. If you are running some mainstream hardware chances are you will not have any problem getting drivers for your hw. i've used x64 for last 5+ years and never really had any problems. Sure it can take a bit time to get used to, but lol, its not like anything that adjusting to linux in order to get x64bit. And personally, Windows xp pro x64bit kicks vista's ultimate 64bit a** anyday. Vista isnt worth it just to get directX 10/10.1. There's no 16 bit support. However, if your prime use for 16bit is to play old games, there's like two billion alternatives to doing that, then to just sticking with 16bit supporiting os. I myself enjoy 8 bit games, via emulators that run the games way better then just the poor 16 bit support that exists in 32bit xp/2000. Really old games was made for really old hardware. If you feel like not learning something new, stick with 32bit. If you want to get ahead, and stay current with hardware and get updated, go 64bit today.
  21. I dont really know, but i seem to recall hearing good stuff about dragon, http://www.nuance.com/dragonstories/ I know they have several product line ups. Probably worth a peek i guess. Let me know how if you find it useful. As far as i have tested vista's own text--voice stuff, it doesnt really work. Keeps translating what i say to some complete gibberish.
  22. Instead of trillian, i'd suggest WLM lite Portable, portable, doh, and very small, works perfect with msn icons too.
  23. Great work john. Does this support custom %programfiles% ?
  24. So first integrate as normal with hotfixes, i use the 4 fixes per Kurt's x64 guide, then delete just the file? I was first thinking more of modifying the wmp11 installer itself, and repacking that, as it would save more time on not having to repeat this. I found another exe file, tho i deleted it so fast, i dont remember the name, lol2k =) In any way, what tool to use to repack with? I extracted the wmp11-64.exe about 12.7MB file inside the WMP11 x64installer itself, and started modifying from there. Is there any chance i can repack this and make it work with your kickass product?
