Important: Problems discovered, and solutions found
TranceEnergy replied to Thared33's topic in vLite
Doesnt vista home premium have a ram limit that possibly interfers here? afaik ultimate can have 128gb but i believe the other version had much less. -
It will give you an error since you havent integrated the language packs on all version of vista then apparently. The packaging scheme on the dvd requires things to be more or less in equal setup, hence you get rejected on other versions when u havent made them similar to the ones you slipstreamed language packs in. You have to do it for everyone. I know, it suxx...
-
What planet are you on? Why are you not integrating service pack 3 instead of 2? As far as i could see you are on 32bit.
-
Most likely, tho how severe is a better question imho. Tho if system is unusuable and there a no other options, you do not have a choice do you? Either that or a reinstall, if no backups are available.
-
This topic has already been answeared quite a few times very recently, using search is not illegal. The answear is yes apparently.
-
Cant tell without last session ini. Did you slipstream SP3 on a unmodified XP with NO service packs or anything on it? thats best anyway.
-
Simply import it into Run on first boot? Inside your last session.ini file aka preset file i have [GuiRunOnce] TimeOut /T 40 CMD /R %Source%XP.bat rem should not see me Pause Where the XP.batch file does f.ex silent install of .net framework and similar things. Just have it load from such a place, and you will be fine i guess.
-
afaik cat files are security files for drivers making them signed i guess. To ask the obvious why dont you just unpack the cab file and what happens then? Also id check into the inf files looking for that cab file on the original drivers and see if things even up.

GREAT we are getting somewhere =))) About dual core machines: I set Nlite to default instead of forcing it to ACPI multi processor system, but i might as well force it, tho sometimes i check the windows Iso inside Vmware Workstation and then just use single core cpu, and if system u boot xp cd from doesnt have multicore, and u have forced it, it wont start. period. On my system i can only chose from single or multi cpu system. Finding out what controller you have, i would check back on your manufacturer's website, look up name of machine, and find out what it contains. Also if you are feeling still not secure about that, check for website reviews, f.ex dv6000 was it not? and add a review + benchmark f.ex to find it out. It can take a while to find a proper review, there are so many reviews nowadays id say 90%+ is utter crap, simply because they are not thorough and doesnt tell me jack s*** more then what the maker of the product says on its website, some not even that. You could try to download Everest Ultimate and see if that can help you with name of the controller. Also tool such as DriverMax possibly could assist in that task. Or for that matter, see if there is a sticker somewhere on it, containing information on its hardware. Im sorry this is not better help, but that list was kind a long. Having said that again, once you have found out what controller u actually have, it might be prudent to google that exact controller and instead of going to your machine manufacturers website, try to look up intels website for that specific controllers driver. I mean, i have a gigabyte mainboard on a pc here, and gigabyte provides all drivers to make it operate, but they dont stay as current with drivers as their original manfacturer of the invidiual components. Realtek is providing new drivers several times a month, and gigabyte is not following up on that, as much as they might do. Anyway, Happy to help. Also, it doesnt matter what inf file you choose, its what folders you choose. Nlite will more or less take all files from it, but you have to decide what windows should use. Im walking a bit in water on this, but more or less thats the case.

I'm so glad i asked ! =)) Nice Placstic wrap effect there ;D. I've used third party tools to accomplish similiar things, and then i ask, how did you make these? Resource editor and swap images inside the files? Im on xp x64 and there's no xpize support or such =(

Letting NLITE modify HIVESFT.INF files for registry settings.
TranceEnergy replied to mikesw's topic in nLite
AFAIk most people running nlite and windows 2000 are using the unofficial sp5 pack. I dont think such a issue is present there. Kurt Aust has a most excellent guide on making windows 2000 updated to the fullest extent. I would ask Kurt if this is something needed or not, i dont see how this is a nlite issue. -
I was thinking of IEudinit.exe and Ie4unit.exe which are launched on logins etc. Safe to remove for single user system. Ie Per user initialization and per active setup programs. Has nothing to do with login notifications afaik, not that that was what you meant.

cant you just check back on personalised start menu under new start menu settings? It works here and ive always applied that tweak.
-
at current i use nvidia and it has nice function to create custom resolution , having advanced options enabled. So possibly check see if your drivers have some thing similar. Either that or Try tool such as Rivatuner 2.09 or later. PStrip is more of a tool for such a task, but im not familiar with your gfx card line, tho its 2 alternatives anyway better then 0.

I had a nlite addon which include a program which did something like this, i would go browse ryanvm and go over the nlite addons and check for what programs that include system productivity applications. Actually i believe it was a addon by Kels' but this was a couple of years back, and memory doesnt serve at this time =(.

Er....how to replace this screen and the icon
TranceEnergy replied to VirBlade's topic in Windows XP
I dont understand what you mean at all, and that picture doesnt tell me anything. any takers for this? -
I've had the same experiences with vista as well as xp 64. However, once i installed proper drivers, the hdd sleep bug went away. I think its more work to have it installed as starting other things from cd/dvd that does have its own ahci drivers on media will not recognize drives. Its more hazzle then its worth for performance, and there is very neglible gain at _best_.

I want to remove 1394 networking from XP, need comments.
TranceEnergy replied to Short Circuit's topic in Windows XP
You would need to remove stuff from registry as well as from driver.cab and so on. But very doable. Tho it takes time. If you want to remove more things, it might just be as well to reinstall, considering removing stuff manually takes, time... -
Is it a notebook, a stationary computer, What windows operating system. What is the model name of either mainboard inside stationary computer OR name of the notebook. I dont see how this is so difficult to understand you need to provide information for. No one can start trouble shooting unless they have a name and a adress if u understand. Name of chipset means little. It could be anything for that matter. Check http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows-XP-drive...999#entry748999 A local mission to help in finding drivers. Also tools as DriverMax can help.

Network's workgroup is not working, need help.
TranceEnergy replied to nliterule's topic in Windows XP
Is this XP with Service Pack 3? I have removed all of those things on 64bit recently and no trouble here. If you are using a single home computer and or not connected to any domain controller, you should, with admin account, have no trouble usually to change what name is of workgroup and not. Possibly this could be some tweak done under nlite. But i dont see any culprit that should do this to a system. If you however are running a Vmware install or similiar, i would suggest you keep the mac bridge. -
Well if you dont have your drivers for your hardware either on the xp cd, or ready to be installed from disk, you could be left with a system with no internet connection, no grapics card support except basic vga, no sound, no printers working and so on. Google is helpful tho: I searched for HP presario c700 drivers, and it came up with different version of the c700. You should download drivers suitable for your computer and correct operating system, before you try reinstalling system.

Well lets not go there tho i love x64 bit topic =) I think at least we can say that driver setup seems about the same. As in same amount of files needed and so on. OT 1: Nice sound card, shame they stopped making it? and 2: i use a usb floppy, it also works to boot from, but i rarely use it, it does however require just sfloppy.sys installed seemingly. I searched my own registry, as i have floppy support in, and from currentcontrolset i found: HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\minimal\{4d36e980-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Floppy disk drive, HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\minimal\{4d36e969-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Standard floppy disk controller HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\network\{4d36e980-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Floppy disk drive HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\safeboot\network\{4d36e969-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Standard floppy disk controller HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4d36e980-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, Class, FloppyDisk HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4d36e980-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Floppy disk drives HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4d36e969-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\, @, Floppy disk controllers HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\sfloppy\, {KEY}, {KEY} HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\sfloppy\Enum\, {KEY}, {KEY} HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\eventlog\system\, Sources, Workstation ... HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\eventlog\system\sfloppy\, {KEY}, {KEY} I used JV16 to generate list, awesome tool.

No problem. I have previously integrated such drivers for the gf of my mams and worked well. Im thinking of a similar HP pc. Simply start the exe file, it should unpack some files to c:\ or you could customize where you would extract them. ANYWAY: Simply, after extract, start nlite, goto Drivers page (after u copied XP cd to hddrive etc etc), and when choosing the drivers, you WILL have a question of this is textmode drivers or not. that should be a YES. *Im downloading your drivers now to check installer, it says : NOTE: The files needed at the F6 stage of the operating system installation can be located at: c:\swsetup\SP38088\files : SO Point NLITE to that directory on drivers page. answear yes to textmode if so. That text in installer.exe note pretty much confirmed it for me. Im not familiar with recent PhoenixBios. One thing that does come to mind, on a previous computer some years back, i had some many harddrives, about 10-12, and all were connected to system pata/sata connectors, it could not list all devices. However that not being the case here, Im interested in what you DID find. Anyway if u have PhoenixBios VERSION, i can look it up in a database and check what are the actual settings. I could start throwing out guesses, but time.. I think however that you might be running with raid controller enabled, but you havent actually enabled any RAID modes, that is you havent configured harddrives for raid configuration. And thus you wont see any such options either, as things not are, how do you say, language barrier, .. anyway, Check bios if you have any RAID options controller possibly activated. If you wont use raid on harddrives, (note multiple HDDrives), you do not need it enabled. period. It can be a pain to setup drives correctly, i know. But lets hope things work out!

*ignore* Xp x64bit doesnt have that limit. And yet again you are still stating something that isnt the truth. Truth is xp 32bit can use its 3.2gb, interpreted differently so decide 3.2 3.3 or 3.5 (not) if u will, however IGP and similiar will still be able to use rest of memory, afaik the upper limit goes somewhere around 4 then counting system and igp, system memory being shared. As for posting goes, nothing wrong with being a bit active. Calling me a post whore is a bit excessive i think.

Seeing as people here are discovering problems with 175.16 latest whql drivers, i discovered something myself. Namely that when trying to create custom resultions, a great way to get over 75hz on lcd btw, everything is greyed out there except auto and manual. But it works if you set it to f.ex gtf and then click on manual afterwards, without letting the mouse pointer go over the other options in between. Kinda annoying but can live with it until something else turns up i guess. This was not a problem for me in the same beta version and beta before that, actually before that too and many others, i havent had such problem before.
