  1. Good answear jaclaz. Since the pagefile is reset to auto after installation, i think perhaps an alternative other then doing it manually, is to create the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] "PagingFiles"= into a .reg file and have a batch file copied to desktop, that one can execute upon finishing install, and have the batch file delete the registry import file as well as possibly it self. Havent really tried to have a batch file delete itself, lol, but something like this could be doable perhaps. Afaik, id rather do it manual until i cba to try this. More important things to do first =) kinda trivial....
  2. Awesome program! Can someone help me here? I have successfully deleted the WMP network service WMPNetwk.exe, and all registry entries for it, in a VM install, and surfing and streaming using WMP11 works just fine. So as far as im concerned i dont need it then. I used booogie 1.2.0 I thought that by removing the "hide" from sysoc inf on the wmp11files, this would be done but apparently not, so what is that anyway? Also it would be cool if this service could be optional to install or so. Takes about 900KB+ registry entries, dont know if i can delete any of the .dll files. PM on this is appreciated. Much profit! I've figured these are at least part of the network and network sharing service installed by wmp11. copy & paste from update.inf ;--- these are WMP NSS files ; connectionmanager.xml=1 contentdirectory.xml=1 mediareceiverregistrar.xml=1 wmpnetwk.exe=1 wmpnscfg.exe=1 wmpnss_bw120.jpg=1 wmpnss_bw120.png=1 wmpnss_bw32.bmp=1 wmpnss_bw32.jpg=1 wmpnss_bw48.bmp=1 wmpnss_bw48.jpg=1 wmpnss_bw48.png=1 wmpnss_color120.jpg=1 wmpnss_color120.png=1 wmpnss_color32.bmp=1 wmpnss_color32.jpg=1 wmpnss_color48.bmp=1 wmpnss_color48.jpg=1 wmpnss_color48.png=1 wmpnssci.dll=1
  3. At this point, reading over your initial post twice, i dont see a obvious culprit. I would go paranoid here and double check that remote desktop is in fact not been disabled instead of enabled. This kind of scenario just plainly reminds me of that what i have configured, is not being implemented correctly at some stage in the process of making the nlited image. I would also check group policy editor, local and what not. Eventsystem and SENS disabled is just asking for trouble btw.
  4. A good thing is to backup drivers so you have always latest versions, ready for manual install or nlite integration. If you cannot export drivers from setup.exe typical problem, considering copying manually f.ex on my usb floppy, sfloppy.sys from system32\drivers, and sfloppy.inf from the inf\ folder. I havent tested this with floppy driver exactly but hoping it could work. at least ms hd audio seems to work ok by that method over here.
  5. First of, both of you have removed just about everything, i'd say start with putting system event notificiation back in, along with com+ and mdac, + jet database engine possibly. You should not need to put back in distributed transaction coordinator. Testing image in VM first would be nice.
  6. Lol, I dont have a single one compability issue here on x64 xp. If i were to find myself wanting to use a 16bit program, i'd either find a newer alternative or play a more recent game, or if it was a really old game and i was feeling nostalgic, which wouldnt happen as i need winuae for that anyway, lol, i'd use an emulator or what not instead of being stuck with 32bit. Less chance of viruses, ability to use lots and lots of lovely RAM, all newer games and apps take advantage of more ram. Photoshop is just not the same wo large texture support. As far as 2 of everything, just delete stuff you dont need, thats what nlite is for. Doh!
  7. Small problem with suggestion of yours. 1. Too much bloat. 3. Only 32bit, 32bit is past, 64bit is future. 4. It's too much bloat, takes bloated harddrive space and registry sizes, makes installation take forever, and its too much bloat. Afaik driverpacks support should have started in 2006 but they totally forgot about it/didnt care. Would otherwise be a nice thing, if you're lazy.
  8. The problem is that you are trying to install Trend anti virus, it's totally utterly 100% crap. You should delete, erase and nuke it off your harddrive. Try Avast AV or Nod32, avast can be used free mostly, and nod32 is commercial, trials available. Could be you are running 16bit installer and you have removed specific 16bit support needed for it to work, afaik it should work to remove 16bit support, it could be your specific installer requires it. But do yourself a favour and choose another AV.
  9. Get hold of a copy of Dependency checker, cant get url atm, but do it and check. Perhaps some system files are not proper updated or registered in system. All though what would be killer to find this out would be snoopdos as on the amiga. Dont know of anything that matches it on the pc. I would like to hear if you find out what you did, as i would gladly repeat it here, as remote desktop is a no go for me. But keeping terminal services could be cool, but not at the price of being forced upon remote desktop.
  10. On my current test install of x64 i dont miss any hotfix updates according to windows update, and i have only downloaded updates according to Kurt's guide. However, on my nlite disc i remove among other things Outlook express, i'm not sure but i am going to test without OE hotfixes when OE is removed. It shouldnt display that i miss the hotfix, but perhaps it will anyway, lol. small tip: when integrating drivers, you most likely can delete things like setup.exe and any things that has to do with driver installation per normal. F.ex nvidia .bmp files etc. Also uninstallers. Works ok here, but gonna need 1 more run to be sure that latest drivers work. I think you should check all you partitions for errors just to be sure, and start with a fresh x64 image and take it from there. I've installed x64 dozens upon dozens of times, and never had that error. And times i have had errors it's always been either faulty burn or something crashed during creation of image because of too much overclock or disc activity/lock up in system at some crucial moment in the process of making xp image/finishing it off.
  11. if you try to integrate or install sp2 updates onto sp3 installation/image, you will most likely get an error refusing to update it as its not ment for the destination. ie7 and wmp are separate products from sp3, that simple.
  12. And nor did you remove floppy drivers? It could be your floppy drive requires a driver not found in the original xp cd in the first place? I have stopped using IDE floppy drives for since 2001 or so. I jumped on the usb floppy drive wagon quite quickly. If nuhi should read this, it would be nice if floppy support for USB drives could be separate. If i remove floppy drivers it also removes support for my usb floppy drive, (sony something).
  13. I guess the question becomes how did you install wmp11, and how does your last session look like? http://www.msfn.org/board/HOWTO-create-a-f...-D-t105277.html is a good guide, i use it as a template. I'm currently building/testing my new xp pro x64 install. I slipstreamed wmp11 by using the booogie 1.2 installer. Works perfect here, and done that zillion times, never had such weird errors. Difference from my setup here, is that it is very lite, removing just about everything, but keeping network/lan, but i even remove some of the things marked as red by nuhi that it says i shouldnt remove on order to keep functionality. Some things really needs an update. Distributed transaction coordinator works just fine to remove, hadnt found any problems with that so far. Are you currently in a limited account or administrator type? Old slipstream wmp booogy pre 1.2 at least had some problems with limited accounts. I've never been in limited account so couldnt tell if this could be such a problem.
  14. Most if not all newer boards at least support a so called IDE mode for sata drives. I have tried running with SATA AHCI mode enabled here, and personally i dont get any benefit from it, its more headache then its worth. If i f.example start Acronis TrueImage from CD and it tries to find harddrives, it wont find any harddrives under AHCI mode because it doesnt have the drivers for it. Can be fixed but who bothers with that anyway. If you only have ide/sata drives, remove scsi/raid.
  15. I'm working on a fresh x64 cd. I'm curious about what the MSMQ why it is in red. MSMQ is optional components as far as XP cd goes, and i cant think of anything it could be needed for except in .net frameworks. Tho i searched msn forums i didnt get any information on it. ere goes nothing : 1. Do I need AGP Filters? I have PCIE graphic card if that helps anything... You dont need it then 2. Modem support & Dial up Connections and VPN - I dont have any analog dialing modems, only cable modem which is always on - username/password not needed or any kind of login. If you use an ADSL modem which you have configured with username and password, or something like this you dont need it. It is needed for if you are using windows itself to connect to internet. Does this make sense? Because it is exactly like that. 3. Firewire network support & Firewire 1394 support - I am on a LAN network and I am connected via normal ETHERNET cable. I dont even remove firewire, tho i rarely use it, but it is ok to have if some buddy comes along with a video camera and needs to extract video f.ex. If you will never do something like that, remove it. 4. Teletex codec - What on earth is that? tongue.gif Havent really got a clue. Says needed for camers. Perhaps it is a codec for interpreteing the texting on movies, who knows... 5. ActiveX for streaming video - that just enables watching streaming videos? - I'll keep that I think. I always remove this, streaming works just fine. ActiveX is in itself a bad idea. 6. If I remove all backgrounds, default themes etc. - How will XP look like and will it work? Much better presumably if you use your own themes, backgrounds. Remove it, and customize xp as you see fit. Removing default Luna theme can cause some weird visual issues, but everything is a-ok here on xp x64bit with vista theme etc. 7. Windows media player & Windows media player 6.4 - Can I remove them both if I have 11 series downloaded on my USB and I would like to install it later? (Im not integrating anything in install) No you can not. Tho you can do it vice versa, install wmp11 then remove old crap afterwards. FYI WMP12 is en-route. 8. Movie maker - Can it work without default media players? Have never used this piece of crap. I suggest you use much better video editors, that are totally freeware. GWS.
  16. This is one awesome piece of excellent programming and thought. Every Pc-tech should have it.
  17. Not very describing topic title. Slipstreaming Sp3 works fine here, only done it twice, but works ok. I would check if you have proper .net framework and check u had print spooler service running before installing .net latest if u did that. Also MSMQ service could be needed. Doesn't sound like a nlite issue tbh.
  18. You are using Vlite for creating vista image, and the key from nlite session shows up under creating the vista image? Use Nlite for Pre-vista, and Vlite for Vista and server 2008.
  19. nuhi, i've got amd chipset and it runs successfully with the advanced write options enabled. Think you're right about it could be a driver thing.
  20. Since you're on x86, why not use service pack 3? That timezone issue is hopefully fixed there
  21. Mushkin 8 GB running ddr900 5-5-5-15. Runs ddr 750 at about 4.4.4.12 which is very good for 4 stick system, and no extra voltage what so ever. Goes to ddr 1100 if i push it, no need tho.
  22. I voted ME 2, but ME can be very very fast if u treat it right. I believe it was the fastest booting system at one point.
  23. Same here, I just don't like stuff to be as extremely bloated as it is. If the slimmed-down stuff runs faster, that's a nice plus on top of it. Exactly. I have more hdspace then you two combined but i dont brag about it as legoliam. The point is of course to run windows or any operating system for that matter, without any unecessary baggage. Dont need it, dont want it, couldnt care to keep them =) Now if only we could rename admin account with vlite i'd be so overjoyed, it's causing some weird issues if you enable the account and then delete the installation account.
  24. Have u perhaps considered using an usb stick?
  25. Remember, Linksys is a division of Cisco. I could tell you a story about a certain cisco router, but i'm not at liberty to say lol. Rest assured cisco is kick a** top notch products. Linksys is their brand for the home users, tho they pack a punch still. I'd say linksys or perhaps a 3com at worst. My wag200g costed about 5 pints and well worth it, i went thru 5 adsl modems, in 2 months before i settled with linksys, and its a keeper for sure. My criteria for keeping it was consistent low ping, good wi-fi lenght (bcoz of gf) and wi-fi stability, and easy setup as well as configuration. It boots very fast vs the thomson,3com,d-link, and lol i cant remember its name anymore modems. There are no gigabit adsl modems per date as i know of, and i dont need a router which gives you q-os enabled gaming priority adding latency to the lot, because i dont intend to download anything while gaming online anyway. Usually keeping it simple is what works best. Of course if u can get a cisco adsl modem, and u can afford it, go for it. I recently spotted they came out with one with 8 ports etc, about 25 pints cost, lol, but i need only max 4 ports so.. edit: That d-link 524 looks like a stars wars space craft that's gone into retirement, lol. edit2: my wag200g http://www-au.linksys.com/servlet/Satellit...ename=AU/Layout is available for use both for annex A and annex B adsl2 isp services. Some modems are not, and will simply not work if in wrong setup, make sure you check what you have, annex A or B, before you do any new purchase if so. That's important.
