  1. Don't worry, my installation of Office 2010 said exactly the same thing, but when I rang the activation number it still worked fine! Do you have the activation number for your country?
  2. I've still got all the SmartPadDisplay settings at "1" and I'm not seeing this! Is it possible that others do actually have to be at "0" for some of the functions to actually display, as some settings are mutually exclusive?
  3. As RainyShadow said, speakerphone is certainly another good alternative if you haven't got access to a traditional landline phone! Personally I'd still rather have the headset to my ear in case the line is bad and/or there's a lot of background noise. It's not worth the risk of having to start all over again if you mishear something! Good luck!
  4. I've used telephone activation in recent months, both for Office 2010 and for the reactivation of Windows XP, and it was very tedious to do, but it did work. That was in the UK though, it may not be available everywhere. Give it a try if you have a number, it may just work! Try to do it on a landline phone where the keypad is separate from the handset, you will find it much easier. Anyone who's done this procedure will know why!
  5. I merged your three files into the registry, and the "Clicking" display is now as you're seeing, and the single-finger setting does work to select the corner click functions, but I can't see what the top (non-selectable) function represents. I guess that is the equivalent function for the "Button" function on touchpads that don't have two physical button switches. The multi-finger version doesn't seem to work though, nothing happens no matter what it's set to. Setting three finger tap to invoke the magnifier works fine. There's no sign of the "Free Typing" function you're seeing.
  6. Well I couldn't get the magnifier to appear whatever finger gymnastics I performed! I guess perhaps it needs more than just the presence of ETDMag.exe in the program folder. I set all the xxxx_ShowItem keys in the registry to "1". Unfortunately, when I rebooted a lot of the ones in HKCU\Software\Elantech\SmartPad had reverted to "0" again! The ones in the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\SmartPad had stayed at "1" but there is no difference in the control panel options or display. The "Chick" function is still as before - The version under the "Multi-finger" tab is still completely empty!
  7. The yellow shield in the system tray does appear for me, eventually! Your best bet is just to get the updates from the MS Update Catalogue and install them manually.
  8. Sorry for the delay, but I've now attached two lists. One is a list of the offered control panel options after a default install. The other is a list of the options offered when all the options in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay are set to "1". This includes an assessment in most cases of whether they appear to work or not! Hope this helps. Cheers, Dave. Default Options.txt All Options.txt
  9. OK, so I guess we leave this as it is then? Do you still want to investigate whether any of the at present hidden functions work?
  10. I'm sure they know full well that they've broken XP compatibility on an application which was originally sold as being XP compatible, but their line now I'm sure would be that as far as they're concerned nothing is now compatible with XP, even if it originally was! There won't be any more updates for Office 2010 after October anyway, so that will be the end of that.
  11. Ah yes, I did run PEChecksum on it earlier at dencorso's recommendation, so that is probably it! So, I guess this isn't going to work. A shame, because we were going to include a modified ETDCtrl.exe anyway because of losing the the Favorites menu, and it would have been nice to get rid of ETDFavorite.dll as well, but never mind!
  12. I corrected the value at 02643, but no difference I'm afraid. Strangely though, my FC printout includes changed values at 0150 and 0151, which i'm pretty sure I didn't do! Should I return the values to their defaults? EDIT: Just had a thought, is that the result of removing the Favorites menu?
  13. I've just noticed that your FC printout says 00002643: 4C 53. Did you not say earlier to change the 53 to AC? Which one is right, AC or 4C?
  14. OK, I did those hex edits, and ETDCtrl.exe no longer crashes on start, and appears to be running fine. However, the driver is now at the default settings (although they are still shown as correct in ETDAniconf.exe), and there is no icon in the system tray. "Stop Device" no longer works on the Mouse properties tab either.
  15. I tried the hex edit, but it didn't seem to work I'm afraid, ETDCtrl.exe still crashes on startup if ETDFavorite.dll isn't in the folder. Please check the screen grab (thanks again @dencorso!) to make sure I've done it right.
  16. You were right (of course!) about dpinst.exe (and I assume dpinst.xml as well), as the driver will not install without them. Running setup without them just seems to refresh the folder, but apart from that it does nothing. I've modified the INF to copy ETDMag.exe and ETDDeviceInformation.exe, and that all works fine. As I said, maybe putting something in the INF to add a Start Menu entry to run them might be an idea, and possibly even ETDAniconf.exe as well (giving four ways of accessing it!)
  17. I can't remember whether dpinst.exe and dpinst xml were needed or not, I will try an install without them and let you know! I hadn't included any extra standalone files in my list, but yes the magnifier could be included, as it works as a standalone application, and I would consider ETDDeviceInformation.exe as well, as that does seem to produce quite a lot of potentially useful information. I had forgotten about the licence files as well! I think what I will do is make another installation folder with all the files in my list in it, and the licence files. If it works fine, if not I will add the dpinst files and see if it works then. I can also add ETDMag.exe and ETDDeviveInformation.exe to the INF to be placed in the program folder. Perhaps it would be nice to add a Windows Start Menu entry via the INF to have access to them, and indeed yet another shortcut to ETDAniConf.exe as well?! ETDMag.exe isn't actually included in driver version 11.4.14.1, which version would be the best to include do you reckon? I guess the only way we could find out what functions should be there by default in driver 11.4.14.1 is to actually install it on a compatible system, which we can't do of course!
  18. Yes, it was worth trying. Anyway, assuming we're not going to carry on trying to get further functions working which aren't there by default, are we close to closing this now? The files we have for the installation source, including the modified ETDCtrl.exe, can presumably be just zipped up and put somewhere for whoever may want to use them. I've modified your INF to set the UI_Theme=1, and to copy ETDMcpl.dll to the program folder. I think it's just a total of 12 files needed - ETDAniconf.exe ETDApix.dll ETDCmds.dll ETDCtrl.exe ETDFavorite.dll ETDMcpl.dll ETDUn_inst.exe ETDUninst.dll ETD.sys ETD.inf Setup.ini Setup.exe Is that it?
  19. I tried using dud.exe (renamed to ETDfavorite.dll, I assume that's the right thing to do with it) in place of the "real" ETDfavorite.dll, and the result was a crash in ETDCtrl.exe on reboot. I could disable the original ETDfavorite.dll by renaming it while the driver was running, so I guess the file itself isn't "in use" while the driver is running. I guess it's in memory though, as I thought before. So, it certainly looks as if ETDCtrl.exe needs a "real" ETDfavorite.dll to be present for it to work.
  20. Yes, it doesn't work any more! Strangely, stopping ETDCtrl.exe and disabling ETDFavorite.dll didn't seem to matter at first, when ETDCtrl.exe was restarted everything seemed fine, which was encouraging. However on a reboot it was a different story, there was no system tray icon, the settings were at the defaults, (although still correct in the control panel) and the device in the Mouse Properties tab had changed to "Elan Smart-Pad instead of "Elan Input Device" as it was before. The device name wss still correct in Device Manager. So, I guess ETDFavourite.dll is needed, as we found a long time ago IIRC. I think it perhaps was OK until the reboot because it was still in memory or something.
  21. I removed menu item 32805,0 in ETDCtrl.exe with Resource Hacker, and the "Favorites" menu has gone from the icon right click, just the "Property of Touch-Pad" is there now.
  22. Sorry, I meant "Modify", not "Settings"! I couldn't actually look at it on the machine when I was writing the post and misremembered what the button was labelled. (I also of course forgot that I could have just gone and looked at my off-screen photograph earlier in the thread! ) It doesn't actually do what I would expect it to do, it seems to just do the same as the "Add" button. I'll look into modifying ETDCtrl.exe if that's the only way of removing it, although ETDFavorite.dll must have something to do with it I would have thought. IIRC we found that was an essential file for the driver to work.
  23. Well it's certainly not something I'm too worried about! As I said, the one thing that would now be good IMO would be to get rid of the favourites menu option, as it doesn't seem to work as it should do at all. Although notepad is in the list by default, and other programs can be added to it, when the settings button is pressed, it does exactly the same as the add button does, just goes to the Windows folder. What I would expect the settings button to do would be to pop up the control panel so the touchpad settings can be changed, but just for that program. It may well be that messing around with the control panel configuration has stopped that from working as it should. I don't think it's important, and as I said I bet hardly anyone ever actually uses it, so it would be nice to just hide it if it's possible. I can't see any relevant registry entries to do that though.
  24. If I switch tapping back on, one finger and two finger tap work fine. Three finger tapping, and three finger pressing, still do nothing. They are both correctly shown on the icon animation.
  25. Notepad seems to be added by default on install, as it's referenced in the INF file. I had already tried setting "Tap3_Press_Enable to "1" in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\Smartpad, but three finger tapping still did nothing. That's where the reference to notepad is, in "Tap3_Press_Path". I assume if it were working it would launch notepad. I set ThreeFingerPress_Display to "1". TabUI_1F_Display and TabUI_MultiFinger_Display were already set to "1". Three finger tap still does nothing.
