  1. Hi, I have two computers. I have an onboard LAN and I can't connect to the internet, and it used to work. When I connect the RJ45 connector into the LAN, it detects a connection but cannot grant me an IP. I decided to reinstall Windows and still nothing. Its not my modem, I used the same modem and cable and it worked on the other computer. Is this a hardware issue then? Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
  2. I have two computers that uses AMD Athlon, but not XP, judging this thread is old. My first PC is an AMD Athlon 3000+ 64 bit, and the one I'm using now is an Athlon AM2 3800+ Dual Core X2.
  3. A little over 400MB, 440MB to be clearer. When I used Vista, it used about 900MB, which was insane.
  4. I would use x64, but due to imcompatibilty to software and drivers I use I'll avoid using that for the time being.
  5. Since I got Acronis True Image, I've used that. Its too much hassle to reinstall everything again.
  6. Is it going to be a good thing if AMD does buy ATI?
  7. My local vendor already has cut the price of most AMD chipsets, though the 5000+ AM2 is still $449 dollars instead of $301. Bloody Australia, try to look for cheaper prices somewhere.
  8. Since i found out about Acronis True Image, I've been using that. If I need to clean my computer or Windows XP starts getting all messy, I prefer imaging it. Saves more time just to reinstall everything and much quicker too. Norton Ghost is terrible. I do not recommend it to anybody.
  9. Yep, I agree, IE7 layout looks terrible. Hate the buttons, and i hate it how the buttons are all over the place. Stupid. Use Mozilla Firefox.
  10. At fizban2 My computer specs are: AMD Athlon 3000 64 bit 1 GIG RAM 256MB ATI Radeon 9600XT Pro It ran fine, but a bit laggy in some areas.
  11. Well, for starters, I don't like Vista too much either. Yep, I agree, that stupid security prompt is annoying when you launch a program. Of course I want it to run, is there a way to disable that annoying message? The start menu... should have kept instead of expanding some inside menu, if you know what I mean instead of opening a menu on the right side like all versions of Windows post 95. The folder file arrangement looks terrible. Don't like it. And the huge icons on the desktop looks crap as well. Did I mention its slow? Microsoft should focus on performance, not pretty eye candy and visual effects. And I heard Halo 2 is going to run on Vista only? Not everybody is going to upgrade to Vista, let alone afford it. And I heard Vista might be delayed again. If so, I hope they will improve Vista. I'm not going to upgrade to Vista straight away.
  12. Actually I didn't try that. But I did use WinISO to add files in a ISO file before.
  13. I've been having problems with WU as well. As you described in your first post, I have that problem as well. I can access the WU site directly, sometimes the IE window stops responding. Close it, reopen it again, does the same as well. And when I can get in and download the updates, the updates stops downloading and stays there, and whats worse I can't even end the task through task manager. This problem has been going on for several months and Microsoft hasn't even fixed it yet. And I've reinstalled Windows, the problem was still persisting. Same with Server 2003 as well.
  14. Also, one thing I did not like about x64 Windows XP was it took up more disk space and RAM, which I found was disappointing. Sorry, I just don't like it, I think the 32 bit version works fine.
  15. Some would run, but will encounter difficulty and might not work correctly. Like Sy Sweeper for example, it worked, but I could not activate the shields and the whole program was sluggish under 64 bit Windows. And you'll need 64 bit drivers as well, most 32 bit drivers aren't even compatible with x64.
  16. Yep, Microsoft ditched most DOS support for Vista. I'm afraid your going to have to migrate to a 32 bit code.
  17. Most likely illegal. We're not meant to talk about downloading illegal copies of software from the internet here, even if you have a legit CD key.
  18. There could be a fault with your hardware. That happened to me not long ago, had to replace it and the BSOD went away. Or you could try reinstalling Windows, see if that helps, or do a repair installation.
  19. I wonder if Vista is going to be successful. And I won't be upgrading to Vista too soon, XP is fine for me. What the hell is Microsoft thinking releasing an OS that requires a powerful high end machine anyway?
  20. My opinion on Vista: Takes about 7 GIGS of HD space, which is insane. Too bloated, really. And I hate the huge icons on the desktop, is there a way to make it normal sized like the previous versions of Windows? Didn't like it how they rearranged the folders. Now the files aren't even in alphabetical order. Bad move. Don't like Vista too much. And I really hate how they rearranged the start bar as well.
  21. I once encountered that stupid notification on my computer as well. It appeared once and when I logged into the desktop, it went away. And I rebooted the computer and it never appeared again.
  22. Oh wow. First Microsoft releases this Windows Genuine Disadvantage crap and now they are providing notes on how to remove them. And I thought this WGA was to become manditory.
  23. Microsoft should save this WGA for Vista, XP is old, and Vista is coming out. Why do it now anyway?
  24. All the drivers that were designed for Xp worked for 2003. All of them. I've tried NT 4, didn't work.
  25. I heard that kid was just acting. It was pretty good too. Retarted, but very funny.
