  1. I encountered some problems playing games with 2003. Though i used the latest updates and drivers the problem still persisted. Oh well, 2003 is a server OS, not a gaming OS, so I wouldn't expect it to run games.
  2. I liked Nero 6, been using it for a while now. The first Nero 7 just messed up my CDs, so I switched back to Nero 6. The last update of Nero 6 was terrible, the stupid window wouldn't close when I finished burning something, so now I'm using Nero 7 again. And I haven't encountered any problems yet.
  3. Sounds interesting. Does this tweak make it act like XP, like running applications that 2003 can't, or is this just some visual tweak application only?
  4. XP is a better OS for me. Doesn't need to much tweaking and can run more applications. You can use themes in 2003, you need to enable them through the services, its been disabled by default.
  5. Didn't I hear that Server 2003 is more secure? I might be wrong.... Server 2003 is faster than XP, unless if you install DCPROMO, then it will take forever to load at the startup. And I use 2003 as a backup OS / Workstation, not a server. I use XP as my main OS.
  6. I only reinstall if there is something wrong with my installation of XP or 2003, but lately, I've been reinstalling it after a month, either because I installed BETA software and I screwed something up and I can't fix it, or I do something and something f**ked up at the end. First option: Voted for the second, I only reinstall if my machine plays up on me. Second option: Didn't really match, so I voted the first one. Third option: Second option. No need to slipstream them, just install. Why would you need to reinstall Windows daily? Doesn't make sense.
  7. Well, Microsoft is known to release their software for a very expensive price. So I guess that Vista is the same.
  8. At least XP is better than the other versions of Windows I've used... much more stable and appealing eye candy, I guess.
  9. Yeah, it was alright, not the best I used, but I prefer XP. Didn't like how they changed the start menu. Now I have to click on the icons just to expand it, hope Microsoft reverts back to the original one in the future builds. And that stupid security center, I hated it how it keeps prompting you to allow or deny that program to execute... I clicked on that program, of course I want it to run... geez.
  10. Finally grabbed a copy of Windows Vista. Well, I'm using the latest build and I'm going to give my opinions on this new Microsoft OS. The installation didn't impress me too much. Unlike the previous NT setup, it didn't have that blue screen text intialization, if you know what I mean - which I didn't care. However, Microsoft didn't include the timer how long Windows Vista was going to be completed, which I found was disappointing. Took like 40 minutes just to install. And Vista is still using the same old sound theme from Windows XP. I was hoping for a new sound scheme, but that doesn't matter. The GUI is good, bit too complex, runs fine on my machine. As for the whole operating system, its a bit complicated to use. Unlike the previous versions of Windows, they kinda modified the start menu, which is now harder to use. I wish Microsoft would also include the video codecs integrated with Vista, you're going to have to manually install them yourself. Not bad, I hope to see more improvements in the future builds. And some points I liked and didn't liked about Vista: Some things I didn't like about Vista: The start menu is a pain, you have to click on some folder to expand it, unlike previous versions of Windows, it opens another menu. Took over a minute just to shut down. Memory hog of course. When loading a window with files on a CD, it took like 10 seconds just to display and load all the icons... WTF? That stupid security center keeps popping up a window when I execute a program... I mean, come on, who cares. Don't tell me this feature will be included with XP SP3. Things I like about Vista: Pretty GUI. Some icons loaded a bit faster with a image, if you know what I mean. I think when Vista loads, it didn't take too long. Faster/Networking protocols. Thats it I can think of. And the boot screen is just some stupid black screen, doesn't even say "Windows Vista", just the word Microsoft Corporation, 2006 and that slider, similar to XP, and they didn't even include the Windows logo. And can you even switch to different Vista themes? Its just Aero, I was expecting more themes unlike the Vista Transformation pack in XP....
  11. Windows XP runs fine on my machine, going to stick with it for a while, I guess. I'll get Vista, when its cheaper.
  12. Yeah the latest drivers for ATI works on 2003. You need to set the graphics acceleration to full and enable all the Direct 3D tools in dxdiag / Directx.
  13. I suggest you keep the 32 bit version, or you can dual boot. I had problems with x64 XP, and I wasn't too impressed with it either. I had problems with some certain software and driver issues with it. At least Microsoft released a trial before actually purchasing the full program.
  14. Well, I have a machine with hardware from 2005, so I guess SP6a doesn't support this kind of hardware? Hmm... Any ideas? I just wanted to try out Windows NT4 though I don't like it. I just wanted to see if it works on my machine though.
  15. Hi, I recently installed Windows NT4 Server and then I decided to install the latest SP6a for it. I restarted my computer. When it attempts to boot, I get a screen dump, like a stupid BSOD. Can you tell me whats causing the problem?
  16. You press F8 to access the safe mode and other options menu before Windows boot up.
  17. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I disabled System Restore because I was paranoid about gaining unnecessary disk space on my hard drive. Anyway, I deleted IE7, didn't like it too much anyway.
  18. Do you have spyware on your computer? Run an anti spyware tool and see if that helps. Or boot into safe mode and delete that file.
  19. Hey guys, Have you installed the Windows Messenger add on for IE7? Man, everytime when I open MSN Messenger 7.5, it would crash with that stupid dialog box saying this program needs to close, do you wish to report it. Have you guys experienced this problem? I disabled the add on, no luck. Uninstalled MSN Messenger 7.5 and reinstalled it, no luck as well. Uninstalled and reinstalled IE7, no luck as well, and I can't delete the add on. Do you guys know how to delete this add on? Its very frustrating. Anyway, I use Firefox and I was using IE7 for testing, I want to leave it on my machine so I could perform future experiments with it. And I'm using the latest build.
  20. Yeah I have the same problem too and I didn't install any new hardware.
  21. Hi, I use Acronis True Image Server. Just today I deleted all my partitions on my primary hard drive (Screwed up something when I tried installing something else) and I decided to reimage Windows Server 2003. Its meant to be on the E:, but it comes out on the C: when I boot into 2003, and the Windows XP partition as E: drive. But when I boot into Windows XP, it displays the 2003 parition as E: drive, while the Windows XP partition is displayed as C: drive, ehich is weird. And Windows Server 2003 is acting strange when I boot into it, because its originally installed on the E:, and some services won't even load. Please help me out here, thanks.
  22. Mine ran fine, except I didn't like it because I didn't have 64 bit drivers. I would use it if x64 bit Windows supported all 32 bit devices.
  23. You may have viruses or spyware. If not, then its a hardware related issue.
  24. Really? The best speed I got for crappy dialup was an average of 4.5KB only. Never exceeded that.
  25. Thanks for your help. That worked perfectly.
