Some weird RAM problem.... again
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Hardware Hangout
Checked it, no dust or anything. I swear, this problem has been recent and its driving me insane. -
Well, what happens if you try to run 2003 from the boot loader? Did you try reinstalling it again? Do you have a bad hard drive?

Not long ago my PC had system failures, constant freezing, random reboots and BSOD's. So I removed one of my RAM chipset. Everything worked fine. Thought the RAM was getting old and defected, so I returned it to the store and got it replaced. And the problem starts here. Currently, my old RAM is residing in RAM Slot #1. If I install another RAM chip on slot #2 or #3, my computer would just freeze, or won't boot into Windows at all. I thought I purchased another faulty RAM, but when I installed the new RAM with the old RAM on Slot #1, everything worked fine. But I can't install anymore new RAM under slot #2 or #3 because my PC would just freeze or reboot automatically, or either I can't boot into any OS. And I can't seem to find a solution under Google as well. And it used to work. Have you guys experienced this before? I'll be grateful if you would help me, thank you.

I like 2003 because its fast. But if I want to play games I need to use Windows XP. And for some reason I can't set up a home network under 2003 because I can't find a network wizard, (No big deal, I like XP anyway) and some games aren't compatible with 2003. (No big deal) I dual boot both XP and 2003 because I find it reliable to have 2 operating systems, if one fails, I use the other one.

My computer either hangs when I watch videos
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Hardware Hangout
Well, I thought the problem wasn't persisting under 2003, but it did later. Though I got rid of my RAM, Windows XP seems to be working fine, now I'm getting a stupid blue screen of death under 2003, some error like this: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA Right now I'm googling for a solution, might have to reformat the 2003 partition and reinstall it. Windows XP works fine, I haven't encountered problems yet. -
I still like Windows 98SE, but I prefer XP, because its stable and reliable. But thanks to the patches, it made W98SE more stable, but I use XP because it supports the latest drivers and programs. Windows 98 was good because it was fast. If you don't like XP and you want a faster OS, use Windows 2000.

Server 2003 nforce2 and ati drivers ?
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to playahater's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
If your using a 64 bit version of 2003, make sure your Radeon card is above 9500, and use the 64 bit XP driver. Worked for me. If your using the x86 version of 2003, then use the normal Windows XP drivers. However, I couldn't get that Catalyst Control Center to work though, (Don't care because I don't like it, made my computer more slow) though the video driver worked. -
Could be your RAM. Just today I had to remove one of my 512MB RAM off my motherboard because it made my computer constantly freeze and blue screens of death similar like yours. If you have 2 RAM, remove one of them and see what happens. Reformatting your computer won't resolve anything if its a hardware fault. If the problem still persists, bring it back to the computer store where you brought it. They'll be able to tell you whats wrong.

My computer either hangs when I watch videos
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Hardware Hangout
Don't worry, I fixed my computer today. After I formatted it, it was still freezing. After I tried another hard drive, another video card, the problem was still persisting. I found out it was one of my RAM that was broken, which resulted in constant PC lockups and computer restarts. Now I have to replace my RAM, which I still have warranty for it. -
On my computer: Dual booting with Windows XP Pro with SP2 and Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1 On my old PC: A dead Windows 2000 Pro SP4 and a working Windows 98 SE.

My computer either hangs when I watch videos
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Hardware Hangout
Guess there is something wrong with my Windows XP installation. Watching videos in Server 2003 works perfectly. Guess I'll have to format my HDD. Thanks for helping though. -
My computer either hangs when I watch videos
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Hardware Hangout
This problem has started recently. I updated all my drivers, and the problem is still persisting. My full computer specs are: AMD Athlon 3000 64 bit CPU 1024 MB DDR RAM 128 MB ATI Radeon 9250 2X 80 GIG Hard Drives Gigabyte Motherboard GA-K8VT800 -
Hi, I have a problem. Sometimes when I watch videos or do something else, my computer hangs. Recently I turned off that "Restart computer automatically" option in Windows XP so the computer wouldn't restart automatically. Instead of getting a BSOD, I don't see a message. Just to be sure, is this a CPU problem, I heard that the computer hangs or either restarts because the CPU is overheating. So what is actually causing the problem, is it really the CPU is overheating, or some other Windows error? Please help me, thanks. I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2, my processor type is an AMD Athlon 3000 64 bit, I have 1024 MB of DDR RAM and an ATI 128 MB 9250 Radeon video card.

Looks interesting. I never liked Windows 3.1 though.
-
I'll stick to normal Windows XP. x64 gave me a headache, won't be installing it for now.
-
I also found Windows Server 2003 quite reliable as well. And its faster than Windows XP as well. Recently downloaded the evaluation version off from the Microsoft website, and I found it was excellent. Is it really a 180 day version? I don't see a time limit on it. Please explain?

Enable keyboard shortcut keys
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
How do you exactly do that? I visited the site and I don't know what to do, sorry. -
Enable keyboard shortcut keys
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Thanks, I tried enabling it, but it gives out this error message: Error 126: The specified module cannot be found. Why is that? -
Since I've installed Windows XP 64 bit, I can't use the keyboard shortcut keys, though I installed the driver. Can you enable it through the Windows services, or is there another way?
-
Well, to begin with, it never did work properly, it it did manage to work for a few months, though I did have stability problems with it from the beginning, like if I installed a new driver, my video would either lose signal between the monitor, or the computer would just hang. I've had my video card for at least 4 months, I think. Just today I returned to the computer store to get it repaired, and I have to wait few weeks, because they need to send it back to ATI.

Its already out here in Australia. When I saw the game box I thought it was a new Command & Conquer game, since the computer gaming store was labelled "New Game". Well, I'm a fan of the Command & Conquer series, especially the Red Alert series. I'll consider buying it, since I've never played the expansion packs (Apart from Red Alert 1 & 2, I own both expansion packs)

Do you guys own an ATI video card? I'm just wondering, I have an ATI Radeon 9600 256MB Pro, and I have a problem with it. Most of the time when I load a game, and start a new game, my computer would hang, thanks to my video card. I've updated my video drivers, and the problem is still persisting. Do you guys actually own this model, and if so, do you have problems with it, like VPU Recover errors, like the problem I described. I swear, I'm sure its my card that is faulty, because I have another older ATI card (Radeon 9250 128MB) which works perfectly. Guess I'm going to have to get it replaced.

Can you disable the login screen on 2003?
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Thank you guys. Hmm... I thought Windows Server 2003 was like Windows XP, guess not. I'm still figuring out all this complicated stuff. I'm not use to this particular NT Kernel version yet, I guess XP used a simple version of the NT code. -
Hi, This may sound like a stupid question, but is it possible to bypass the login screen? Its kinda annoying to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and press enter just to get into Windows Server 2003, and I'm not really running a network with multiple user accounts on it. Thanks for reading.

It would have been great if Microsoft did release an official service pack for 98SE. Too bad I formatted by hard drive recently and didn't bother re-installing it again. Windows 98 SE was my favourite OS in the 9x series. It was good because it was able to run almost every game, which was a bonus.
