Customise install paths (eg OE)
XtremeMaC replied to wamatt's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
for windows specific programs u can open up their inf files and manually alter the path to install but u'd need to change the registry entries path's as well.. so it'd take a lot of time u're hdd doesn't have to be all that organized believe me. my hdd as for my program files and etc is not so organized, just manage your short cuts well. and after that u won't have to look into program files directory anymore. -
Testing an Unattended Install
XtremeMaC replied to motordude's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
1'st i think vmware is a little faster than vpc second if u're using bat files u can put "pause" commands in between to test if an application has installed and if it has given any problems. after 1 stage of install press shift + f10 to go to cmd prompt and u can manually check if the program has been installed or not. also what kind of customization are u talking about? -
well there are many registry hacks in here http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=8341 also u could just download trial versions of many tweak programs and do them yourself, they're easy to understand....

hmm okay. its probably okay but i doubt using 2 firewalls is going to have a better affect on the system. as a matter of fact using 2 of them is non sense. cause what firewall really does it to block the ports...

1st of all which dx9.0c are u talking about? anyways yes dx 9.0c is in beta stage its to be released soon. I don't think that critical update upgrades to 9.0c

go to task manager and close the running process. if that fails get process explorer from sysinternals.com and close its handle...

A list of all "bad" programs (re: spyware) ?
XtremeMaC replied to Professor Frink's topic in Windows XP
instead install spyware tools to each computer and by choosing immunize button just let it do it for u -
3. u're better off with 2 drives 4. go to disk management from comp management right click on the drive u want to change the letter of, choose "change drive letters and path" and change it to whatever u want..
-
u mean install silently? if so just copy it to where ever u want it..

Spyware Removal Tools compared
XtremeMaC replied to Shotgun's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
well not a good article as said on the comments sections its done as if a 5 year old kid made a comparison comparison by number? peh.. at least compare the number of definitions they have... he himself says that spysweeper identifies all the files cookies etc as separete traces whereas other programs identify like ones as branches of each other. also there are 3-4 more spyware programs that should have been included. he says he was going to compare only 2 of them in the beginning then he said it'd be unfair for the others. well how about the 4 ones u missed? why start a task if u're going to leave it at 50%? poorly done. -
I hope u're talking about something else cause I've seen 16x myself, well i might be mistaking on the AA word but I'm pretty sure it was either aa or anistropics filtering.
-
u might want to go with firewire? I know that's not u want since u already have usb 2 but firewire's have more support in this manner they even have firewire hubs...
-
is that a legit game or a no-cd cracked game? also do u have the latest dx9.0b?
-
look at gosh's website for more info on the inf's
-
u could try decreasing the antialiasing anistropics filtering and etc.. settings to get better performance / lower quality from the games i still don't really understand this graphics issue, nowadays I think they all suck, cause they don't take the time to fix everything. ati & nvidia are just trying to get 1 step ahead of the other.. friend of mine has ati powercolor 256mb 9600 even at 8x aa he cannot run somegames good, the mouse is slow frame rate's slow, even at 800-600, without the aa and other stuff games run smoothly.. they just shouldn't put 16x, its useless. and I don't know it but i don't think xt/pro makes much difference in that manner.. has anyone tried 8x or 16x on any games?

well i wouldn't in life time buy any components from and dealers like that (gateway/ dell /etc..) pricegrabber.com is a pretty good place to start to buy things i know u've mentioned the model of the computer but my internet's real slow now I don't want to die trying to open that page so what are your pc specs? i don't think its a brand new one bc u've ME on it. well drivers are going to be fine. xp is best known for its driver support i'd say but i'm not sure if u'd want to run it on a slow machine. a western digital 120gb 7200 rpm will speed up your computers performance but still what are the specs? for intel chipset drivers i'd go to intel's page and check the latest chipset software for your mb for compatibility

Thanks I should have first dled the server I just dled the server while I was posting, I'm very excited about it well yes I'm sure most ppl are going to prefer just shouting to the teammates but since we're not going to keep the same teammates all the time I though this would be more fun. (if u use u're way we'd need to change places all the time ) Thanks and sorry for posting, could be deleted...

I want it to be smoother and more fun than the other ones we did since we're going to play battlefield a lot I wanted some team cooperation. now I use team speak when I play on the internet now our lan more likely is not going to have an internet so I was wondering if team speak works on lan? if its not avaliable with TS are there any programs that'll do a similar thing?? Thanks (thanks to Bush for coming and f'ing up our traffic though making it easy for us to choose a nice day to start and end the LAN )

My brother's computer can't boot up to the desktop
XtremeMaC replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in Windows XP
it might be due to hard drive failure check if the bios sees the hdd. other reason would be a virus could have deleted it or simply your brother could have accidentally deleted the root core files.. action to take: 1. go to bios and set the 1st boot device to your cd rom 2. put your xp cd into your cd rom 3. press any key at "press any key to setup etc." 4. do as u'd normally install xp, press f8 enter enter 5. at one point its gonna say a previous version of windows has been found, what the **** do u want to do 6. press repair "r" button and it should do it for u!@
