  1. Is EA deppresed because it shows that their fanbase have no lives, or did they expect more?
  2. All right, it works for me. Do this, go back into Internet Options, click the custom level button->in the reset custom settings selection box, select medium-high. Try it again. If it doesn't work, add optonline.com, real.com, and realarcade.com in the trusted sites section. I don't know if IE7 is out for win98 but it may help you to look into it.
  3. Simple, the CDs that don't work have a copy protection scheme. This was a huge issue because it didn't let the cd's work on PCs, at least until a, IIRC, sweedish guy figured a workaround. When you put the CD in, hold the shift key. If this doesn't work, try google for CD protection workarounds.
  4. In My Computer, click Tools->Folder Options...->View->Scroll down to where you see a check box with the "Show Control Panel in My Computer" selection. Uncheck it.
  5. Is it only with certain CDs? Does the CD work in other places like a CD player?
  6. This reminds me of an issue I was having on one of my harddrives. Space was being taken up but I didn't know by what. Run chkdsk /f at the command prompt. It will tell you that you need to do it at the next boot. Hit enter, reboot. The program will check for and automatically fix errors on the disk.
  7. What may be happening is the game is actually hosted off site, or on a different domain. For example, if I had a web site that had games in it, and the site was: www.ubergames.com, but I actually had the games on: www.uberstorage.com, adding the ubergames domain wouldn't give access to the games since they aren't on that server. Tell you what, post up the link to the game and we can take a look at it. Maybe it's a problem with the site itself.
  8. Go into internet options->security->select the trusted sites icon->click the sites button->add the base domain name of the site where the game is, for example, I would add www.gamedomain.com. Chances are the activex games are unsigned, which is why your configuration is blocking you. NOTE: Only do this if you trust the site, i.e. you don't suspect them of using unethical tactics to upload viruses.
  9. There's a few ways to do this. 1. If he isn't an avid comp tech, he proabably left the administrator password blank. At the welcome screen, press ctrl, alt, delete at the same time, two times. This will bring you to the secondary login screen. Enter Administrator as the user and leave the password blank and try it. 2. Get a password cracker, there's lots of them out there just use google. Somethine like ERD commander.
  10. Well, you could try a mac forum for one.
  11. is that safe? I kinda scared to delete such system files You aren't deleting a system file. It's a cache file. A copy of the real file so that windows can access it faster. Go ahead and delete it like sonic posted.
  12. You really can't create an account automatically. You could in win98, but after that security issue M$ opted to have the admin create the accounts. Right click My Computer, click Manage. Expand Local Users and Groups, select users. Right click in the window with all the users and select new user. Put in the name of the user and click ok. Don't add a password and make sure the checkbox that says, "User must change password at next logon" is checked. Please search the forum next time.
  13. If you're asking where the PC is physically, you have to do that on your own. Use something like Visio.
  14. Or this (what I use). That proggy is not bad, but starupcpl seperates the loading programs via tabs. http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
  15. Instead of using msconfig, get a program called startup cpl. It's an advanced way to see what programs are starting up at bootup.
  16. There's another way. Google a program called bootvis. It is, or was, a microsoft created utility to arrange the boot order. So the drivers that take the longest would be loaded last. You'd get into your system faster. With that said, you wont find it on the MS site since they don't support it anymore. BTW, you got a lot of money to throw around like that.
  17. You could always hack the server and give yourself access. All you need to know is the integral system that is Active Directory, and Windows Server. Good luck!
  18. You could check for spyware. You could also run disk cleanup and disk defragmenter. Finally, in the run dialog box, enter "sfc /scannow", without quotes.
  19. Because that specific port isn't being actively used on the machine at the time, it's being stealthed, or hidden. The only way to leave it open is if you disable the firewall itself. There, now your ports are open, not some, all. So you can go ahead and disable it and run the test again. Hope this helps.
  20. 90% of web based proxies are blocked now. This user has to do some googling to get a positive result.
  21. Naw, don't worry about it. I'll goole this stuff. Always liked nature. Good eyes man. But I think the ranger would be more interested in the vandalism of public land than the distribution of a picure.

    winnt.exe

Use a program called resource hacker. Just google it.
  23. This is off topic but I wanted to ask you Jagie. Where'd you find that wallpaper?
  24. Seriously though, you shouldn't use the windows xp firewall. No matter what anyone else says, it's not as good as some of the freeware stuff that's been mentioned before. You would be more protected using a thirdparty program, especially when dealing with P2P networks.
  25. Not after you've spammed so badly. Sorry man.
