  1. What brand was the usb drive? Now, are you sure that you where uninstalling the usb device in device manager? Or where you just disabling it?
  2. Have you overclocked your system? What was happening right before this issue started? Did you add a new heatsink, processor? Was the system hanging previously or was this a sudden onset?
  3. Stupid question but, did you check the ink?
  4. Here's the thing, what do you mean by bandwidth? If you are talking about the speed of your computer, an upgrade in ram will help, as would a faster processor. What you could do though, is scan for adware, use ad-aware or spybot. You could also right-click My Computer->Advanced tab. In the Performance section click the settings button. From there a box pops up. There should be four radio buttons, click the one that says "Adjust for best performance". This will turn off any non essential visualizations. Now, while getting rid of some icons from your desktop will help, it's only a problem if you are using onboard graphics. Either way, you would only notice a difference if you have many icons and you delete many of those icons. If you mean increase bandwidth for internet, than all you can really do is either increase the cache size of you browser, or get a faster connection. Also, run adware scanners like spybot.
  5. What you could do is check the hidden devices in device manager. While in device manager, look under view>show hidden devices. There's be an extra branch that pops up called Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Look under there and post up any exclamated things.
  6. The drivers are installed, yes, but the PC still needs to configure the printer to use these drivers. Just click cancel and do a manual install of the printer. From there you can pick the drivers from a selection page. I forget the steps but it's a wizard so there's not much to know.

Is this the page you mean? http://www.enemyterritory.com/main.html It's under the downloads button. It's Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's the online game so I don't know if it's what you want.
  8. I received something like this years ago. It freaked me out something bad. I thought it was an undercover cop who had mistaken my email address, or someone had given it to them. I deleted the thing, and just forgot about it. I didn't need any attention as far as that sick crap. I still think it's traps.
  9. OMG, that's classic. Oh how I love tech support reps.

  11. The adware probably has a backup install sitting somewhere on your system, most likely in your system32 folder. Run HijackThis! and post up your results. Also, it would help to know what the spyware is. If need be, try using other spyware scanners. Sometimes you need to use as many as 4 to completely keep your system clean, as these programs miss files.
  12. This file is created during OS installation. It's updated whenever you install new hardware. It's essentially a database of all the hardware that's on your system, and all the information about it; IRQs, DMA, MEM, etc. Don't worry, it's created during install.
  13. You know, I had tried that as well, and it never helped. At first I thought it was some stupid little lamer getting into my system using sub-seven, but someone else told me to try that and it worked. IIRC, I also disabled some media service which caused the issue to stop around the same time. Don't remember which one though, sorry.
  14. Follow this and post in the morning. http://jakeludington.com/windows_xp/200602...oot_screen.html
  15. Honestly man, you are really limited. Becase even little cards like the old FX series require at least a 300W PSU. If you try and put in a higher power card on a system with a low PSU, you're going to have random shutdowns.
  16. Do this, insert a floppy disk, doesn't matter which. Access it via My Computer, let it load completely until the green light on the floppy drive turns off. You're done. I had a similar problem in a class. Apperently the PC wasn't done reading the contents because I had pulled it out while it was still reading it.

    ****, that's nice. But isn't that a waste of a room?
  18. Take a look at the reviews on download.com Here's the first review I saw that seemed really informed. BTW, this is the review for the firewall:
  19. 1. Safety is a relative question. Just don't visit any "illegal" sites and you should be fine, also, as was stated above, don't use credit cards or any personal info. 2. Since this is just a program, just uninstall it and you should be fine. I'm assuming this, however I've never had a need to use a proxy. 3. See number 2.
  20. An IRQ, I/O, or memory range it needs was taken by another device. Go into system information->hardware resources->conflicts/sharing. Post up your results.
  21. +1 Like jcarle wrote, change your PC to obtain the IP info automatically. Make your router have the static IP that was assigned by the ISP and have it, the router, assign the DHCP info to your LAN.
