  1. You may have paid, but you've only paid for ONE license meaning ONE machine install. Which is stupid as hell but I'm not going into that. You can legally install windows on a different machine as long as you remove that installation from the previous one. It all goes down to having it on one machine, or making it so that only one machine is seen on the net.
  2. Uh, sfc.dll and sfc_os.dll is all of 142KB on my system, how would that save any space? SFC needs to stay on the system to help with any invalid files that may get into your system folder. I'd advise you against deleting them. If you want to save space, throttle down your recycle bin and lower, if not get rid of, the system restore cache. Have you checked if the network card is supported under XP? There's some hardware that be detected in XP via plug-and-play. Does it need drivers? The Windows Tour prompt should have a little check box which says something like "Run on startup". Uncheck it and you should be fine. And yea, before anyone else says it, "Get a new PC"
  3. What kind of router is it? Whats happening is the router is attempting to relearn links from when it was on. Just leave it on. If you want security, use access lists.
  4. The only way to truly segregate the storage device from the internet is to do so physically. You would probably be OK with an up-to-date server with good security policies and effective NTFS permissions. Actually.. if you disable windows file and print sharing on the adapter connected to the internet, then really they will have to use an exploit of some sort to access files on the server from the internet side. Minor input but yeah.. the only way to TRULY segregate it is on a separate server. Uh, why not just use an access list? Give the server a static IP, and block that IP from accessing the outside world from the firewall.
  5. There shouldn't be a problem as a partitioned drive is treated as seperate drives. Changes on one partition wont affect the other partition. However, should you NOT have access anymore to Vista, just open up boot.ini, which is in your root drive, and edit it to add vista. Just copy the partition(n) part, changing the number in the parenthesis, which is an n in the example, to a 2. This is obviously on the new line.
  6. You'll have to edit the registry. This excerp is from M$ help and support. The full page can be found at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;320159
  7. Meh, I use the tools that come with XP. They're good enough for me.
  8. So since I am buying the EULA, not the OS, can't I change everything within the OS to a point where it's not Windows anymore, thereby invalidating the EULA? Something like this happened with Lindows. Although, I'm sure something this ovbious is covered in the EULA.
  9. Some computer also shut off when they overheat. This could also be something to check.
  10. ^There may be a limit as to how many copies you can install. BTW, to all, WGA has been cracked. So if you don't want to worry about it, just crack it. Now I'm not going to say where or how to do it, but I say you should be able to because it's your LEGIT copy of an OS that you spend good money for.
  11. Thanks all, I really appreciate it. Special thanks to Aeigis, Ima work the code now. Thanks man. [EDIT] All right, I decided to use LLXX's method since it's simpler. I just created a batch file with this code @echo off taskkill /IM dfbhd.exe /F taskkill /IM dfbhdlc.exe /F From here, I scheduled the task to run every 2 hours, every day, for 2 hours and 10 minutes. This should suffice it. Thanks to all who helped me. BTW, the "at" command is actually not very usefull. I just used the task scheduler.

I like the part where he says, "Our enemies never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country, and neither do we"
  13. I thought left shift was for the runas context menu?
  14. Hello all, I'm looking for a program that will close an application after a certain amount of time has passed. For example, if a user is using a program for ~25mins, after 30mins, the application closes on him/her. It doesn't really matter if the user is notified or not. I'm mainly looking at controlling the amount of time a users spends playin an online game. I found one called CloseApp but that's shareware. I'd like a freeware one if any of you know of one. I've also heard about creating a batch file stating that a program should close. The only problem with this though, is that there'd be no way of starting a timer as soon as the user starts the game. Any help is appreciated.
  15. Create a program that'll automatically catagorize the books when scanned into the system for your library.
  16. That's why you never buy retail. The only diff. between retail and oem is that you have to buy a screw to get the discount for OEM.
  17. That really is an exagerated amount of money. Maybe this is the reason that I finally move to linux.
  18. What does this part show on your config? BTW, this is the Local security policy window. Goto control panel->administrative tool>local security policy. Then just go into the tree that's in the pic. Also, everything else looks empty for security reasons.
  19. It shouldn't make a difference simply because each wlan spot has a differentiating ID of some sort; this would make it so that the various keys you have stored up aren't used on the wrong network.
  20. Depending on what ISP you have, you'd have to configure it a certain way. For instance, I have the WGT624 from netgear. I'm using Verizon so I have to put in my username and the domain in one of the router's config. pages. Netgear has a section where they tell you how to configure the router for many ISPs. Just do a search of your router on their site and look for anything about ISP configuration.
  21. I don't think I understood you question right but is this what you were looking for? http://www.blogtorrent.com/
  22. Well, simply because you've said that it DOES work with admin, it's either a security policy specifically blocking these sites, or a misconfiguration. What browser are you using? What firewall do you have? What router, if any, do you have?
  23. Why DON'T you have the server behind the router? Doesn't that router have a feature to assign the DMZ? If it does, set it to the server's internal port
  24. There's a review in there that that motherboard needs to be flashed before it can be used with a conroe chip. But that's neglijable. A bigger issue is that it has a relatively useless extarnal SATA port, and no firewire.
