Server 2003 is very fussy about Sound card drivers, i had lots of problems even with the AC97 Built in sound, first check that you have started the windows Audio Service. and then download the specific drivers and install them manually. as for IE it should still be in Program Files\Internet Explorer. You could just do a search for iexplore.exe

If they are comfortable overclocking then recently on tomshardware was a review of the Pentium D 805 , That overclocks easily to around 4GHZ and can surpass even the FX-60 from AMD. That would be a truly excellent processor for video editing if you on a budget and dont mind tweaking a few settings.

To be honest those two cases are absolutely awful. How much do you have to spend. There are lots of other nice cases available for very cheap prices if u look in the right place.

Filezilla is a very good FTP client, i cant say ive tested the server. One that is extremely reliable is CuteFTP. This has been around for many years and has always been very secure and extremely powerful.

well some very basic ones to start you off would be the CompTIA Network+ and Server+ im pretty sure ive seen various books for them around the internet just google ebooks of those two things.

it will be around 3700+ performance, its the 512k cache that lets the chip down compared to the higher end chips. 39'C is an acceptable heat for the chip, you could just put a nice zalman or arctic freezer HS/Fan and that should lower the temp down to aroun 34'C

There is no best linux to run alongside windows, it entirely depends on what you want the system for and how competant you are using it. Seeing as you sound fairly noobie when it comes to linux u should try one of the more popular and easier to get to grips with. perhaps ones like Ubuntu, fedora, linspire, mandrake.

You should check you videocard settings and drivers as this can soemtimes cause this kind of behaviour, it did it to me once with one of my old nvidia cards when i used ths standard xp drivers. as soon as i updated with the nvidia ones it worked normally again.

You could buy a ASRock K8NF4G-SATA 2 , they are fairly decent boards for the price and come with inbuilt video that can use upto 128MB memory.
