  1. I'm not sure about your hotfix questions, but i know that you can install programs and things from a different partitian, just as long as you know the paths to the files. In your applications.cmd instead of using %systemdrive% and all that buisness, just use the direct file path. There is a way you can do it so you use all the latest versions of your software, simply by renaming the exes to corrispond to whatever is in your applications.cmd file. Hope it helps.
  2. It's a nice forum skin, but what does your forums actually offer people?
  3. Yeah that was the problem. They wernt set to read/write and start on the admin CP. Thanks though
  4. Nevermind. Within a few minutes of posting this (and which took 2 hours of fiddling around before i posted) i fixed it.
  5. Here's the setup. I've set up Invision board at home on my local server. Im running Apache server, mysql, php and ofcourse invision board. The problem i'm having is, when i create new forums, they dont show on the main forum page. Only the test one will show, but each new forum can be seen in the Admin CP. When i click the link to view the new forum on the admin CP page, i get this error: Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. The error returned was: Sorry, some required files are missing, if you intended to view a topic, it's possible that it's been moved or deleted. Please go back and try again. Now this is strange. I thought at first it might be an error with file permissions, but i am able to create and reply to posts in the test category (set up by default), and i shouldnt need to CHMOD any files, because they wern't uploaded anywhere, thus having write permissions by default. Can anyone hlep?
  6. Yep. Thats what i do. Set the timeout to 3 seconds. That way there is enough time if i want to change o/s's, otherwise it doesnt delay my normal boot up for very long.
  7. Procrastination is the way of the future! It's by far a better .... bah, ill finish this sentance later.
  8. I really like the background! I'm gonna download it and parade my desktop with bright purple themes, icons and winamp skin
  9. That doesnt happen when you're setting up a computer name during an Install. Instead, it randomly generates a computer name, as i said.

    {R.P.C} ?

Or, you can type shutdown.exe /a in a dos box to stop it from restarting your computer. Still highly recommended you get the fix for it though
  11. Two words. Gordian Knot. Google it.
  12. I've decided to give IIS the flick, and concentrate on getting Apache configured properly with php4 and mysql. Thanks for the site though.
  13. The documentation isnt very useful. I'm also exploring the possibilities of Apache, that way i can use php scripts to easilly update it etc.
  14. The restriction times are for loging on. That means that you can set times that a user can logon to the computer. The users cannot change the time, because it has to be done from an administrator account. *references are to Win2k. I assume that it hasnt changed in XP, but i could be mistaken.
  15. press alt + ctrl + del and check if there are any processes running that you know you didnt install. Also check the add/remove programs list. Somtimes addware is nice enough to give itself an uninstaller.
  16. Could someone please direct me to a website that has a guide on setting up and configuring IIS? I'd like to make a small little intranet webapge on my server at home, so i can easilly navigate through all my setup files that i store on it. Its a hassle filtering through literally hundreds of executable set up files that are all defaultly named to something regarding anyhing but what the program is, or does.
  17. A bootable DVD Can be created, much the same way as a normal CD-R can, execpt (using nero) just select the Bootable DVD option, and insert the required bootloader (available from http://www.MSFN.org/unattended) As for a bootable DVD-RW, i dont see why not. It's read pretty much the same way as any normal DVD, except that the stuff on the surface of the disk is different, to allow erasing and rewriting of the disc.
  18. If windows sets a computer name that is already on the network, then one will automatically be generated using the owner name entered, and some random numbers.
  19. Windows 2k has more of a graphical way of setting these options. I can't remember exactly where it is (as i dont use 2k) but i think its in the user manager located in Administrative Tools.
  20. Ill make you a banner if you like. Just let me know what you want it to look like (briefly) and give me the background image you'd like (to match your website), and i'll see what i can do.
