  1. CN is the Users Full Name, which is the combination of the First name, last Name and Initials fields. DC is your Domain that the AD is located in. in the case above it is the Contoso.com domain, each section requires a DC= tag, so if you have Corp.Contoso.com you would get DC=Corp,DC=Contoso,DC=com
  2. are you doing a sysprep on the machine before you captured the image? SACL (system access control list) is used by windows to audit permissions on objects. In this case it is removing SACL information for a user on the machine
  3. IF you are using Windows 2003 DC's, the concept of Primary and Secondary Domain Controllers no longer applies. All DCs hold the SYSVOL and all pertaining information that is required to service clients. you can either use add/remove programs to add the DC role, or using DCpromo from the command line. this also will help in the fact that your Domain will be more better equiped to handle loads and also will provide redundency if Either domain controller goes down. Hope that helps!
  4. Server 2008 can run with as little as 256 mb as ram (still need 512 to do install) server 2008 will run with about 70 services installed and around 50 of them active, overall you are looking at about the same ram to run the machine, ~200
  5. any chance you can post a screen shot of the config you have for WDS?
  6. can you tell us a little about the computer? is it a store bought? what motherboard do you have? any more information would be helpful
  7. I am hoping these will be 64-bit servers... preformance will be nice if so (please say they are 64 bit!)
  8. another thing to try would be display drivers, either reinstall the version you are on or see if there is an updated version for your card
  9. you can try and run activation again, it might allow it to activate again, if not you will have to call MS and get it reactivated
  10. is the serial port configured properly per the vendors recommendations for the device?
  11. you don't want to expose your KMS server to the internet, if anyone else finds it they could theoretically get your keys out of it, you should have gotten a MAK key as well for machines that cannot connect to a KMS server often.
  12. has the firmware on the router been updated?
  13. did you dual boot your system? was XP installed on another partition? if XP was not installed into a 2nd partition it most likely overwrote the vista installation.
  14. how many times has this happend? is it a regular occurence?
  15. i would do a reinstall, sound like something didn't complete correctly, try Password1, that will pass the password complexity on the first boot, if that doesn't work the install is probably botched.
  16. the big question is what are you going to do with this computer? is it for school? for games? for just surfing the web? I would have to say stick with vista, the power management is not that bad, i run a dell D630 with Vista x64 and have little issue, the battery is fine since i rarely need to use it for then 2 hours of a charger. most games and software coming out run well with vista so unless there is some software that you desperately need for years past you would probably be better off with vista. @grake manufacturers are not selling machines with XP anymore (or at least not without you asking for it)
  17. you need to make on the WDS server the unattended file to use for the build. it can be found in the properties of the server
  18. big question is there any deny write permissions setup? those will override permit on the folders that you have shared. what does a RSOP of a user that is having issue show you? what permissions is it showing that they are being given?
  19. have you tried a full shutdown of the PC?
  20. which files on the startmenu are you talking about not being able to remove?
  21. I have noticed when Vista is installing serveral patches it will peak to 100% every so often. The CPU utilization has always dropped though once the patched have been installed. The problem with XP is that it would not release the utilization that it had taken (ala the SVCHost) that is fixed in vista.
  22. have you gone into the advanced settings in network connection and made sure that the LAN connection is at a higher priority then your wireless connection?
  23. was the installation Nlited at all? are there any errors in the event log, how about the setup log for adobe?
  24. are you on the latest version of your BIOS for your motherboard? if not go download that hth
