  1. It looks pretty cool, but the reviews I have seen aren't very cool. Seems that it is actually a pain to work with although you think it wouldn't. I'm not so sure I could use it my Five year old like to get into everything.
  2. No TV stickly videos, PC games and Music. We have two Dishnetwork DVRs in the house already there it no real need for TV on the PC. Thanks for the info though. I have it running now the Panasonic PT-AX100U does very well we are using a 106 inch screen and the video looks very good. What software are you using for the dvd playback? I was under the impression that Windows7 didn't do the HD or Blu Ray discs. I ordered the Blu Ray the bay I posted this it isn't here yet. Thanks.
  3. I have just finished colloecting drivers for the PC I want to test Windows 7 on I plan to use it as an HTPC specs are as follows: MB: EVGA 680I CPU: Intle Core 2 6800 Extreme HD: WD Raptor(main) 2 WD 500 gig (storage) Mem: 2gd OCZ SLI ready Graphics: 2x Evga 8800gtx CD/DVD: 1x Plextor SATA DVD 1x HP lightscribe DVD Sound: Creative XFI plantinum Keyboard/Mouse: Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Media desktop(with Vista drivers, can find logitech drivers for Windows 7) This set up should work ok I hope, what do you think? It will be hooked up to a Panasonic PT-AX100U that handle 1080i input outputs it at 780i, it works great with our sony upconvert DVD player(haven't bought blu-ray yet), I am considering buying a blu-ray drive for the PC and replacing the HP with light scribe. The system Score a 5.8 in Vista. I would think it will be ok for this purpose. Please give me some feed back on this. Thanks, in advance. Forgot to mention the HTPC will be only used for playing back video, Music, viewing pictures and playing pc games. No TV we already have a DishNetwork HD DVR.
  4. Have you made sure that the onboard network adapter are enabled in the bios? If they are not, Windows will not see them and will not install the driver.
  5. Geek, I am beginning to agree with you completely on the amount of time wasted trouble shooting Symantec and Windows conflicts. I have decided to give Eset products a try, any opinions on their offerings would be helpful. I had already reinstalled the wireless pack a second time incase something happened during install it didn’t help, that is when I decided to look into the event log and dig into details. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
  6. If anyone else has this same problem I figured it out, SYSFER.DLL belongs to Symantec CMC Firewall it was causing the problem. After looking into the problem description and uninstalling Symantec Endpoint the problem is gone. I can use both network connections, of course I will need to replace Symantec with something else, any suggestions?
  7. I did a quick search for information on this and found nothing on the subject. I installed Vista sp2 Beta on my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with Vista Ultimate and after all was said and done and the reboot was complete I cannot connect to a wired or wireless network, I also recieve an error stating that the DHCP client has stopped working and needs to be restarted. Attempting to restart the DHCP client fails, any suggestions besides uninstall? Thanks in advance for the help. Had to edit post I own and Inspiron 1720, no idea what I was thinking.
  8. Thank you, I will give it a try when I get home.
  9. Sorry I took so long to reply I have been swamped at work. First I uninstalled all of the updates listed, it was no help. Second answer this is the first time this has happened at it is only on this machine, I have one other desktop running 64bit Vista Ultimate, and a Dell laptop running Vista Business none of these systems are having or have had this problem. Third answer, the explorer process is already running. I have tried to restart everything and it hasn't helped. My computer is still usable but it lacks a desktop, I have to shut it down through task manager, because there is no task bar jus a black screen. Right now I have been able to back up all of my information and have come to the conclusion that I have to reformat and reinstall the OS, but I am now curious as to what caused this and how to fix it. Thank you for you suggestions and keep them coming I don't want to kill it if I don't have to.
  10. Ok, I leave my computer on pretty much 24x7. I am running a Dell XPS Gen3, with Windows Vista Ultimate installed on it. It went into stand bye sometime yesterday and when I went back to it last night all that would come up after getting it out of stand bye and after multiple reboots is a black screen and a my documents window open. I have tried everything that I know to restore things nothing works. I am able to still use the computer, it is like running without a desk top and if I close the windows then I have to logoff or restart it to get it back. In the event log I see an entry the ATBROKER failed to start and that the file may be corrupt. Is this the problem and is there anyway to fix it? Please help.
  11. What a pain, but i figured it out. Thank you for all your help!!
  12. I didn't think of that. I will try when I get home. Thank you. :blushing What a pain, but it worked. Thank You!!
  13. First off I am not sure if this will go in this forum or not, but the OS on the hard drive I am working on is XP Home so I thought it made sense. I am trying to recover information from a hard drive that has XP Home on it and was password protected by the previous owner (my sister in-law) she gave me the password that was used so I have it. But the computer, an HP, has a fried motherboard and will not boot. So I pulled the drive and attached to my Apricorn Drive Wire, then to my Vista Laptop and it sees it as an external drive so that I can view the contents of the drive. When I go to move it Vista tells me that I do not have correct permission to move it. I have already attempted to take ownership of the files through Vista, still won't allow me to move them. She has already purchased a new HP with Vista Home Prem. on it and would like her file from the old computer on the new one. Most of the people I deal with don't protect there home desktops she thought she needed to. I searched already and couldn't find any really relevant information on this. Thanks.
  14. :thumbupHow is your cooling? All fans are ok and working. This will sound dumb, but it has been done before, when you attached your cpu cooler you made sure to remove to cover on the thermal pad if you used a boxed one, or made sure that you applied thermal paste between the cooler and cpu if you used an aftermarket on. Check the fan on your video card, as they heat up they to can make a system black out and reboot. Also make sure that your power supply fan is operating, and that the PSU is large enough to power the system. My system specs are below and as you can see between the CPU cooler and the video cards I had to get a large PSU, When I used a smaller wattage the system did all sorts of odd thing. System Specs: EVGA 680I mother Board 1-WD 150gb Raptor 3-WD 500gb Caviar Se 2-EVGA 8800gtx’s 4gb OCZ DDR2 PC9600 Sound Blaster XFI Plat. Intel 6800 extreme @ 3.2 ghz Enermax 1000 Galaxy PSU Vigor Gaming Monsoon 2 CPU cooler(peltier) Hope this helps.
  15. I installed 32bit Vista Ultimate retail on my new build, and after realizing that I wasn't going to be able to make use of the 4 gig of memory installed, due to the memory mapping issues with the 32bit os's I switched to 64bit Vista Ultimate and haven't looked back yet. There are drivers for all of my hardware and Have no issues to speak of. I would go 64bit. System Specs: EVGA 680I mother Board 1-WD 150gb Raptor 3-WD 500gb Caviar Se 2-EVGA 8800gtx’s/ SLI 4gb OCZ DDR2 PC9600 Sound Blaster XFI Plat.
