  1. there is the slight chance that the media is corrupted, especially since the error happens on both the files on your computer and from the CD. I would suggest downloading Process monitor from sysinternals on technet and running it while doing the installation. we can see were it failing
  2. Would it be viable to just remove the drive in question from disk management?
  3. From a gaming standpoint many new games have a 64 - bit mode that you will see preformance gains in (crysis, HL2, etc) for many games RAM can be an issue and running in a 64 bit mode helps allievate that problem. i have been running 64 bit for about 3 months now, and have yet to run into a game that has not work (COD4, HL2, War3, WOW, etc) it all depends on how the game was architected.
  4. most likely it is where they store the original WIM file that was used to image the PC at the factory.
  5. Hey matrix, welcome back! you could delete either of those partitions, the Dell utility partition holds the dell tools to reimage the machine if you needed to use your recovery CD, so if you don't mind the loss of that ability then yes, you can delete either
  6. Microsoft Delpoyment Would be an excellent place to start http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Also check out the deployment team blog http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.as...%2fdefault.aspx Annnd last but not least, the Deployment Center http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/bb664921.aspx that should get you some good info to start!

  8. You will need to purchase the 64 bit version of windows you want at that point you will have to do a clean install. there is no upgrade path from 32 bit to 64 bit
  9. sorry about missing the Sp1 part, if you could, fo rtestign purposes can we disconnect the bridge on your computer and hook it directly to the modem Via a ethernet cable?
  10. hmm what is your network setup (router, switchs etc)? are you running vista SP1 64-bit? i have been running sp1 of 64 bit for awhile and not seen this issue, what kind of NIC do you have in your box?
  11. check your event logs, are there any errors list for either of those 2 services coming back out of sleep or hibernate?
  12. 1. when the user logs on to the Different OS's, 2008 will redirect folders based on what OS they are on. 2. you will not be able to change the product key and upgrade to a different version, it will require an upgrade of the OS (booting from the OS and updating to enterprise) 3. if the Server is 64-bit capable then you can do an upgrade of the OS to 2008, application functionality would be a questions for the app vendors.
  13. Webcasts, books, and just live testing are what i have always done, build a 2008 lab, even better build it at home and run your house on it, forces you to learn it and if it breaks to fix it, labs can be easily ignored when a problem arises. there are several microsoft learning tracks you can check out at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/default.mspx right now i have the Introducing windows server 2008 book (http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/11163.aspx) it is an ok read, gets you a basic understanding of what is new and changed from 2003 even more fun to read is the Changes in Functionality from Windows Server 2003 with SP1 to Windows Server 2008 lots of good information out there just have to search, check out all the MS blogs, they leave little nuggests of joy in many of their posts. things you won't find in books and exams
  14. MCITP looks like it's more than one test. 70-648 moves from MCSA2003 to MCTS/2008AD and MCTS/2008NetInfra. After that, for MCITP you would need 70-646, PRO: Windows Server 2008, Server Administrator. According to the site I posted, this test isn't ready yet. that is correct, i would still need 70-646 but it will not be out till april http://blogs.msdn.com/trika/archive/2008/0...exam-dates.aspx this blog is an excellant source of news on upcoming test releases and dates. check it out
  15. 70-648 - upgrade from MCSA to MCITP Server admin, i'll be taking it end of march
  16. Made the plunge and moved to vista 64 bit, C2D w/ 4 gig of ram. everything flies, they only item i could not get working was my old creative webcam (driver issues and wasn't supported or going to be) got a cheap live cam and it works good. games are fast, response times in all applications are amazing. i have yet to run into an app that i cannot run which suprised me the most. Anyone on the edge, take the plunge it is worth it

    Windows 7

You realize the same thing that is happening with Vista will happen with 7 right? it will come out, vendors will not be willing to sink R&D money into writing drivers for it till they see people using it (ie SP1 for 7) it is the same thing that has happended with every other OS. the adoption rate of the OS with determine how quickly you will see drivers and applications for it.
  18. if you are running that command and it is giving you a list of option, the command is not running correct, not typed correctly or not installed/setup properly. if it was attempting to run it would give a success or error, not list the options to make it work
  19. Go into device manager, do an uninstall of your graphics card, shutdown the machine. Power back up, when windows asks to install drivers do not let it, install your drives from the latest Nvidia driver pack. Same card (kicks a** btw) same issue, this fixed it for me
  20. Hence why MS has been holding off on pushing SP1 out to the public, since several changes cause key drivers to no longer be useable, they have to wait on their business partners to write the drivers they should written when this was in beta
  21. the live meeting functionality is configured for you once you finish the installation. I would warn that you test this is a test domain first as it WILL expend your AD scheme during the installation. also the live meeting 2007 client is required to work with OCS 2007
  22. Most likely the issue is your drivers, blue tooth drivers are never very good and with the changes that have gone into 2008 you will most likely waiting until the company can deliver drivers for 2008
  23. why do the letters have to be the same? the volumes are marked are they not? once you log back into XP the drive letters will be the same as they were before. the drive lettering is done by each OS independently.
  24. something to try would be getting a bartPE cd and run chkdsk against the vista partition
  25. Just deployed our Development Sharepoint 2007 site, 2007 is leaps and bounds easier then 2003. Like travis said though, there is alot of out of the box functionality that you get that will suite most situations, but to customize it to fit your business needs perfectly you will most likely be looking at development training to get it right. just and example of extremely customized Sharepoint site being used for internal/external/partner portal sites http://www.kroger.com
