  1. chris, i tried out your page and typing worked fine for me, sounds like there is an issue on the clients PC
  2. If the connection works without the router in place, the router itself is probably not completely compatible with the new networking stack in vista, espeically since you said that you contacted D-link on this, it sounds like you might be at the point that you have to wait for a firmware update or look into a new router that can handle the network changes in vista.

Krraak, configure your computer to do a full memory dump when the error occurs, system properties => advanced => start up and recovery settings => configure it to do a full memory dump. when the machine blues screens again let me know know.
  4. SuperFetch
  5. check out your device manager, change the view to show hidden devices, under non-Plug and play devices, choose to disable beep, this should be the beep that you are hearing
  6. it is an unattend DVD, look for a file called Autounattend.xml somplace on the DVD, that will have all the info that they are using to setup the OS, based on what key you input you get a different version of windows (all version are present on a DVD) you would have to build a new DVD with a ultimate key to get it to install ultimate. there isn't any difference between OEM and retail excpet the way that they are activated
  7. how are you redoploying the image? you should be using imagex and not the windows setup engine. since you have syspreped and customized the windows install it will be easier to use a custom PE disk to format the drive and lay down the WIM on the HD with imagex. moving to the proper forum
  8. there is the possibility there isn't options for one, let me look tommorow and i will see if i can find one
  9. Once you create the VPN between site it should be as easy as creating routes across your switches for the different subnets and then adding the remote machines to your domain. big down falls are going to be that the remote group is gonna have a terrible domain experience depending on the connection between the sites, no DC or DNS means all requests are going back out across the WAN to your main office. that will eat bandwidth and cause a not so happy user experience for thos in the virginia office. can't really justify a DC and DNS server for 5 poeple though, you will have to test it out and see what experince they will get
  10. factory.wim is original image of vista that they installed on your computer, that is what you would use to go back to how your comptuer was setup when you got it from the store, look on the partition for a file with a .DMP extension, it almost sounds like a memory dump is being created on the that recovery partition. get a details view of the volume and sort by date to see what the newest file to be created
  11. you wont find it on a Vista DVD as it isn't the recommended way to do a unattended install anymore. Moving to the proper Forum
  12. create a global security group in AD, add all users to that Security group, then through group policy or via logon script you can add the group to the administrators group on each machine
  13. once you install 2003 and Sp2, load the RIS components before you load WDS, that way you can setup WDS in Mixed mode
  14. Defrag can now run in the context of a normal user now, doesn't have to be an admin to run Windows Vista Step-by-Step Guides for IT Professionals Managing Group Policy ADMX Files Step by Step Guide.doc check out the doc i have list here at the above link,
  15. what you would is create a global group that you can add the all the admin group on evey machine, then add all the users to that global group
  16. Vista already has a built in Defragmenation scheduled, if you are looking for a way to mass change the time you can check out the new GPO functionality and setting up ADMX files for vista GPO's
  17. within active directory, you can set what machines the client is able to logon too. Under the account tab for that user, just set the computer that they are suppose to be logging into there and then that is the only machine they will be able to logon too
  18. Woooo Half-Baked Solution all the way!!! M8rk you best bet is to contact who ever your supplier is right now (HP, Dell what ever) then tell them what you are looking for. things you will want to know before ou call them 1. how much Space you are currently using 2. what have been your growth in the last year or 2 (if you don't know, take what you have and double it just to be safe) 3. decide what solution you actually want (NAS or SAN) if the price is doable i still agree with Memmnoch on the basic SAN solution. EMC|Dell is a fantastic soution is you go that route, HP uses there own systems which i have heard aren't bad either. good luck on the research! let us know how it goes!
  19. some specs on the machines would help us better gauge what the issue is
  20. I totally agree with you Memnoch, my only worry is that for a school system, i don't think they will be willing to float the money required to get the SAN system. it would be the right was to go, but to expensive for them when there is a cheaper route that will do the job, do you know how much a cx3-10 would be? (roughly) i have never checked out the prices on them before.
  21. pedro, if you create a normal shortcut on the desktop to the run command, when you right click on that shortcut you will get the option to run the shortcut as a administrator
  22. this first thing you need to do is spec out how much space you are going to need now, and what you want for the future (typically you would look at growth over x length of time but we don't have to get that specific right now ) http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF...4-78164217.html Price about £ 5185 this is more along the lines of the DL320 storage server line, the one you posted would just be a regular DL320 server that you would use as a DC or what not, the one i have listed here is setup more along the lines of a NAS device (WS2003 Storage Server) 1.5 TB (12 x 146g SAS drives) this would be an ideal starter server to get you going with a NAS tye setup, you might end up buring through the space fast through depending on how much space you actually need. to do an entry level SAN you are going to have to buy the storage device and a SAN swith at least to get started. ISCSI Internet SCSI (iSCSI) is a network protocol standard, officially ratified on 2003-02-11 by the Internet Engineering Task Force, that allows the use of the SCSI protocol over TCP/IP networks. iSCSI is a transport layer protocol in the SCSI-3 specifications framework. Other protocols in the transport layer include SCSI Parallel Interface (SPI), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Fibre Channel. Acceptance of iSCSI in corporate production environments has accelerated now that Gigabit Ethernet is becoming more common. Building iSCSI-based Storage Area Networks (SAN) has become a less costly but worthy alternative to creating Fibre Channel-based SANs. SAN In computing, a storage area network (SAN) is an architecture to attach remote computer storage devices such as disk arrays, tape libraries and optical jukeboxes to servers in such a way that, to the operating system, the devices appear as locally attached devices
  23. if you do dont have RIS installed first, WDS will go directly to Native mode, make sure that RIS is installed first on the Server First
  24. C:\windows there is not installation folder as the the entire OS is packaged in a WIM file
  25. have they looked into clustering the Exchange server to make the failover more seemless? Updating IIS After You Change the Computer Name
