Direct X is very bloated with pictures and other uneeded things in it. Is there a guide for taking the bloat out or is there 1 compiled already?

You can also Nlite windows 2000 taking out uneeded componants and making unattended install disc. This along with disable uneeded services will make it quicker. Google for some reg tweaks to speed some things up. A few more files may be taken out manually I dont think there is a guide for this it is just experimentation on your part. Good luck

OK guys this is not a bump but I am working on a similar project but with windows 2k. I found this was the best thread in nlite ever and cant let it just fade away. With the project I am working on I am slimming down 2k, getting rid of uneeded services, editing ntoskrnl and explorer to make it look better. I plan on modernize 2k with gurgelmeyer USP intergrated with nlite and tweaking and slimming with nlite. But anyway if I dont suceed with my project it will bring up 1 of the best post for a while. It seems like all the greats were working together Nuhi,Jeremy,Clint,Fridge,gdogg. We all got sidetracked on different projects. But,,,WOW this was a great thread

OK cause I plan on putting a different logo in it. Some of these files are also in driver cab. If I delete these from driver cab do I need to edit driver inf? And for the logo change do I need to put the logo in all 4 files for it to work?

What if any ill effects when each are removed? Any performance gains by removing each?

Got a question about 2k the following files seem to be the same ntoskrnl ntkrpamp ntkrnlmp ntkrnlpa They each have a different function but are all needed? Does windpws 2000 have acpi support? Gurgelmeyer I had the flu like systoms about 2 weeks ago. It wasnt pretty, so I kind of know what you are going through. Nothing seems to rid of it all you can do is try to stay hydrated while it works its way out on its own.

In xp it is winntbbu in 2000 it is 1 of the setup screens. It would be very cool to get winntbbu to work with 2k

I am modding windows 2000 also and will be using this. Is there a way to mod the windows 2000 setupup billboard too? Windows xp has winntbbu and windows 2000 hasnt.

I want to create a quick responsive windows 2000 which uses very little memory and fast to boot up. I also would like to use winntbbu from xp(setup billboard)

At0mic Thats fantastic. How did you do it with nlite, batch files, runonce. This is very cool. I need details Minlogon from 2k embedded would be cool but you can also patch winlogon with the patch for xp. The effects are not as profound but it does boot a little faster and also WFP is turned off for winlogon and allows further tweaking of this file with reshack etc. I need full functionality so I am wondering what could be done with 2k. I want to put the file winntbbu.dll from xp into 2k so I can get the setup billboard into it so I can edit it to say what I want. I will have to edit txtsetup and dosnet I think to make it work, what do you think?
