A few questions What happens to the original direct x, media player etc files when the more modern ones are slipstreamed with your method? Are the older files deleted, overwritten, or simply left in place?

I looked over snakefoot site I didnt see what you were refering to the defanged gui. I saw other interesting things. Do you think it possible to get msconfig to install in 2k instead of placing it there after install?

OK will do. With mine all I did was replace the files in the source burn it to a cd. Pretty cool.

I hope you guys dont mind me jumping in here. This thread is very imformative and have read this and others along this same subject. I am not very techy so the 2K I want to build will not be very techy. I want to build a 2k modernized with dir x, media player, xp icon gui and icon(fixed ) and remove uneeded files and services, and take out IE. Have a slender OS running on very little comitt. There seems to be 3 guides which points basically to the same type of program. Since I am not a techy but am very interested in doing my OS which guide should I follow which is the easiest to get an error free and achieve the above? Thanks

Yes, it was a good thread. The main players are on other projects ATM but keep bumping and eventually they may come back to it. But for the time being also check out BoldFortune forum as well as some of the older nlite threads.

using minlogon does have some use such as faster booting, less memory use and it makes computer a single user machine. It also makes it where more files can be removed.

This hybrid OS is it going to be a reality? Spruce up windows 2k GUI a little bit!!!

sorry to hear of your woes gdogg, you have always been a good friend even though we never met. I feel a sort of commradship with you and wish you the best of luck. I wish I could help on your project while I have all kinds of enthusiem it is severly limited by my knowledge, even though I am learning more daily. I know a few people which are prime candidates to handle your project, one of them is named after a famous movie star in westerns But best of luck gdogg

Should your program be used before nlite or after? To me the logical choice would be use your app first then use nlite, but I dont know.

HMMMM A 2k/xp hybred and maybe a few files from 2k3 thrown in for good measure. I like 2k but its look is a little dated. The boot loader from 2k3 will make it more efficient maybe more. Sounds like a good project. While I am not as good at modding an OS as some of these guys in here I do have one thing going for me, I dont give up easy. So if I can help in some way dont hesitate to let me know. A very good project.

How about putting it on a private server? There are many at OSBA. I would ask first though.

gdogg it basically puts the 3gb switch on boot ini. can you give examples of what you found a few months ago

As suryad was saying invest in more ram. XP likes ram and add to that you are doing movies and mp3. Well it takes ram to convert these as well. The HD is on the small side because these will eat up space quick. If you are going to burn dvd invest in a good duel layer dvd burner(dont buy the first 1 you see) do some research and get 1 on sale. A good burning software Myself I like nero and nve coupled with any dvd. DVD squeeze is a good free software for putting lots of data in a small single layer dvd
