You can always use a shell which rides on top of explorer or a theme. But after a while you can get really adventurous and edit shell.dll--explorer.exe--ntoskrnl.exe and depending if you got a single or dual processor puter there is another file to edit. Most use the freeware reshack but others are out there too.

If services are removed from the regestry does it also remove them from the list

Does the .inf have entries to disable uneeded services? Maybe a few other reg tweaks too.

OK just find a utility to use there are many out there. Remember if you use one within windows it wont clean your page files and boot sectors. The ones which you boot off of will clean everything, but it takes a long time. If you have a resident virus to get rid of, after you write HD back to 0's usplug memory for about 30 seconds or so.

Dont use a magnet. It will ruin the HD. Please dont suggest things such as this, someone will ruin HD because they will think its good info.

Its always faster to use a 2nd party format utility

You can use a disk manager. There are many out there but I use ontrack. It formats my 120 gb in about 5 minutes. It also can zero fill HD but it takes a little longer. Then format to use. Hope this helps

I agree, I was trying to go to fast. My knowledge of the internal working of an OS is limited and sometimes I get ahead of myself. This usually results in a BSOD or icons not showing up on the desktop or some other weird effect. I have seen some really strange ones when I mix and match files from different OS. What I really want is a slim(really slim) windows 2k, using a comitt of around 20 mb or so. When booting up is there a way to rid of the "networking componants" thing that pops up? This is annoying and takes about 5 seconds or so. When using your fileset along with ntldr and ntdetect from I reduced my comitt to around 30 mb. On xp I can add a 3GB switch on the boot.ini and this reduces comitt 6 mb but has no effect on 2k. Any hints on modding the boot.ini? I hope I dont bore you guys with my discoveries even though to you all they might be old discoveries. Oh I downloaded "The Whiners" version but it makes no mention of it on the website except here it is.

I didnt know 5.1 was out. Which edition is it? I think I would like the Extreem Edition. BTW could you rehash what each edition has above USP 5.0?

Ive been experimenting. The first 1 I used yor app along with nlite and got a comitt around 30. Second I used nliter only to remove items my comitt was around 49. Could anyone tell me why?

Yes, you can slipstream it manually or with nlite

I know what I did. I was trying to get to far ahead of my skill level. It is fixed and running good. I mixed some nt4 files, some 2k3 files and some xp files. Removed IE, slipstreamed direct x, new media player and codec. A comitt of 28 meg . I think I can beat this Very good program. TY Much

Not a bump I used this and followed instructions. Everything was going fine until the first rebot during the installation an got this windows logon process 0xc0000096 then termanited installation what did I do wrong
