LMAO Stereotypes....AMD proc users = hardcore gamer all day? Have you checked out scientific benches? Try running a distributive computing application on your machine. Try running any sort of number crunching and watch Intel quiver. I routinely use my cpu cycles for folding and go through work units like no one elses business. This is just an example of one of the many things I use my comp for besides just gaming, lets see HD footage encoding, vdo editing, etc etc.....

What do yo u mean when you say interrupts Billman? Do you remember specifically any drivers or firmware that you may have modded before this CPU hogging started? I burn CDs and DVDs on my laptop XPS and the fans dont even spool up indicating almost a negligible amount of CPU usage.
-
Err could you be a bit more specific? Why are you system restoring? Are you trying to revert back to before installing SP2? And upgrading from a CD meanign you had SP2 on a CD and you are using that to update your XP?
-
Popped open a command prompt and am checking it out ASAP. Is it valid for a home network where there are no servers though?
-
Where did you see it get installed? Is there an entry in the Add/Remove programs area? Can you please be more specific? i am curious. I know what XML is and it is mostly required for software configuration files...so yes it is important but I would like to know in what context you saw it get installed.

I voted for all the above...because I dont know how many betas are going to be out. So if there were 2-3 more betas then I would work on software patches as much as I can on this beta and then balance them all out in the final beta or two.

What math have you taken so far?

Looked at one of the articles where Tom himself said Intel future gen dual core cant keep up with the current gen AMD dual core. The other article didnt say that AMD was inferior at all. In fact all it said and I am using your quote to prove my point is that the top gun OEMs are locked into Intel and not AMD because Intel has more clout when it comes to marketing and they have huge resources to be able to offer better deals and so on. And dont believe the opinions at Tomshardware. Believe their facts not their opinions.

Clint the gigabyte card will oclock well. It is a great mobo. If you want more features, and those are actually good features like firewire 800 and the sata then go with it. That way you get oclockability + the features whereas you only get oclockability in the DFI. Good luck.
-
Nice price. Nice setup. You were able to save a lot of bucks going with that vdo card that is for sure!! Have fun with it.
-
Have used both MSI and ASUS and honestly you wont go wrong with either tho I think the ASUS has a slight bit higher performance and more features for oclocking I think. DFI right now tho is very very high quality and very popular with the oclocking crowd as was pointed out for the high stability and high clcoks that can be achieved.
-
There are rams out as well as mobos that can take that AFAIK but **** you live dangerously!!! haha
-
Err AMD rocks in the enterprise dude. Have you checked out cpu benches using enterprise software ever? Check out anandtech if you are concerned about it. Intel gets its a** literally handed to it by AMD procs. There is no and should be no questions as to the superirority right now of an AMD proc that is not going to be used in a laptop but everywhere else!
-
I always go the max upgrade route...so you should get an all new cpu/mobo...get the venice core preferably. IT will be socket 939. And also try to get better ram or at least try to tighten the timings. If you get a mobo get a DFI or Asus. You wont regret it. You can using stock cooling get a considerable speed jump with the new Venice core. Hope that helps.

Use Winrar and actualyl never heard of Izarc. Interesting to know. Will check it out thanks.

Ho hum I think there is a central repository used for Installshield based software and I dont think the uninstalling was clean enoug. Have you used the search function and searched through the entire registry for traces of the software? If so then hmm...I suggest using a software like CCleaner and System Mechanic or other such cleaners for registries and see if they get the remaining cruft out. If not then I dunno what to tell you. Maybe someone else in the forum can help out. Did you also check to see if the directory has been removed from the hdd?
-
I am sure there could be a way. But you know you could download the SP2 and burn a cd along with all other ancillary software you might use later on. So just in case you dont find a way to legally enter the key in and slipstream SP2 into your cd.
-
I am really not sure, but I guess with the repair option the devs at MS prob felt that by repair you can at least acces your files even though maybe the damage is irrepairable. After you backup your stuff then they think that users would probably go and reformat and reinstall everything from scratch but at least this way the user did not lose their data. Hope that makes sense.
-
Why would you use a slower hdd as the master?

Link here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mobile/displa...1020095852.html Thought it would be an interesting read for the great folks here. First thread starter in tech section for me

Whaat is the benefit for silent install? Integration into an xp install cd?
-
hehe i have read about the cantenna. we were gonna build one to see if we can get some free wireless for a friend of mine who is stuck with dialup. I used his dialup once and I really felt sorry for him!

maxamoto lol. AMD uses cheap junk lol. haha You really dont know what you are talking about. But what kind of laptops were they...the ones that burned out? Who was the manufacturer? You do know that AMD has a crap load of clones out there.....right? If the laptops were from a reputable manufacturer, then ok yeah I would agree with you. But till then I totally disagree. Never had problems with AMD and even crappy mobos on which they were installed on. Besides one comp all comps I have built and purchases are AMDs. Granted in laptops, AMD has a while to go to beat the Pentium M. Intel has a solid product there.
