  1. Right now we are for our project using Adobe Premiere and it is serving us well...except for the part where it conforms the audio files....that part is really annoying. I have not seen Final Cut Pro doing that and if you dont have a fast enough workstation which we kind of dont, it stops all work cause you cant do anything but wait till the conforming gets completed. You guys can check out www.craterlionproductions.com if you are interested.
  2. Zxian lets not forget ATI....its Canadian based isnt it? And so is Alias the makers of Maya? AMD really is a great proc. I just conceeded defeat so that flamewars diddnt get out of hand. Sure some benches AMD loses but there arent that many. And lets not forget the clocksped headroom that AMD still has. Sure they are incrementing only with 200 mhz increments but the performance is scaling incredibly well unlike Intel procs. And also lets not forget they oclock really well. As saugatak pointed out that Intel is actually rethinking everything adn going back to Pentium 3 architecture and tweaking it to produce their new chips. AMD all the way. It only makes sense....no fanboyism here.
  3. Seems like engineering is the way for you to go just like Flash said. I just graduated with my BS in Comp Sci this year and just took the java programmer cert from sun. I think there will be a demand for both hardware and software in the future because of cryptography, bioinformatics and data mining, and of course the gaming industry. Movies are getting boring for a lot of people and that is why we can see their sales dropping....people are moving more towards electronic gizmos and computers are prob the most complicated of them all. People are still figuring out how to build the fastest processors, fastest hard drives and so on.....and writing software to take advantage of all the given hardware I would say is the msot difficult task. Becuase with the higher languages that are coming out for computer programming, programmers have to deal with a lot of abstraction and all these layers distance the code from assembly code and that results in inefficient code. Sure we would see massively faster apps if everything was written in C and assembly....but that is not possible.....so compiler development is quite important. What I am trying to say is there are a lot of jobs in both CE and CS. Its just for you to decide whether hardware stirs you or whether writing software that takes advantage of the last bit of processor power is what you wanna do.
  4. I would vote for Final Cut btu since it is not a Windows program it is obviously out of the picture. Avid is the best solution though for Windows users but it is prohibitively expensive though and for good reason.
  5. Doesnt it say in the Help toolbar.....about Visio? If you already have it installed that is.
  6. I like Azureus....works like a charm. And I use Adobe Acrobat pro 7 cause it is an excellent tool. Sure expensive but **** it gets the job done. OOo exports to pdf but the pages are jpegs so sometimes it is kind of an inconvenience.
  7. I think there was a similar thread called"light programs" or something.....basically meaning programs that are not resource hungry. Forgot the title but it was pretty recent so eyeballying the titles would get you the link I wa talking about. But I use IE, MS anti spyware, Nero 6 .6, Cyberlink PowerDVD 6, Adobe Professional 7, OpenOffice, Executive Diskkeeper, CCleaner, System Mechanic, Winamp, WMP, Winrar, Picassa2, Notepad++, Google talk, Google accelerator, Trillian Pro, Quicktime, Outlook Express I have left installed just in case I can install future versions of MS Office...thats it.
  8. System Mechanic has a Drive Scrubber.....works good.
  9. haha. Never experienced that myself....maybe it is time for a reinstall?
  10. Will be looking forward to a post from you regarding how effective that feature in vista is.
  11. How about not slipstreaming with SP2. How about updating it after the copy has been installed? Or how about making sure you dont remove all the older graphics drivers during the nLite process? Would that help?
  12. Not having checked out Nero 7 I cannot comment on it. But in Nero 6.6 I have found that the learning curve using StartSmart is very low. And also I only have that one package that includes Burning ROM downloaded from the website and nothing else. StartSmart should be easy enough for most people to navigate through. Heck even my computerphobic girlfriend can burn CDs easy now because of Nero 6.6!! lol
  13. Kewl....based on Doom 3 engine no?
  14. ROFL Try checking in the registry for the name of the "wrong" process that is running and see if you can delete it manually from there if for some reason trendmicron online virus scan is not running. Also there is a free antivirus scan which is even better I think from panda av. It detected a virus a while back that the other engines missed on my comp Good luck
  15. Ahh sweet thanks for clearing that up.
  16. Agreed. Yes I have been bandwagoning a bit but thats aight. It seems Intel is pretty rock solid in the corporate environment. There are some benchmarks it wins and some it loses compared to AMD. But seing there are more that AMD wins in I am gonna stick with it for a while. Agreed MS office is still ahead of OpenOffice though I use the later simply cause I dont have illegal software on my PC and I dont think its worth the money MS charges to have a legal copy of Office.
  17. Are you disagreeing or are you in utter disbelief that zonealarm has an av? Or are you trying to say zonealarm is a substandard product. Never tried the av myself but the firewall itself is awesome though I dont need a firewall meself.
  18. I think it is the extensions. There is no guarantee that the extensions people are writing are well written for the browser. So...I think maybe it is back to the old install one extension and see if it crashes or not routine if you dont find anything helpful in the log file.
  19. Agreed. Somehow it seems that popular softwares get updated often and they became popular for a particular reason....because they turn out to be better in the long run.
  20. Question: Is this a legal copy of 3ds max? Or is this pirated and thus possibly have some kind of virus in it that is using the name of 3ds max to hide itself from the user?
  21. Err what kind of problem are you trying to fix?
  22. No the technology is based on the X1xxx series. It has a new technology that features a programmable memory controller. They are using algorithms on making sure that the memory and pipelines are optimized on the fly for max performance without sacrificing image quaility. Since the 9800 is not related in anyway to the new gpus which feature brand new architectures you will not be experiencing an increase in graphics performance. Maybe something will trickle down for older card users after the driversets are relased and ATI themselves learn more ways of optimizations but i am not keeping my hopes up for that. I read that there are new opitimizations coming out for future Directx games as well.
  23. Thanks prathapml. Looks like this is for software devs tho...right? Not for gamers? Or is it a brand new DX 9 update?
  24. Check out www.hexus.net the forums at www.beyond3d.com, www.guru3d.com and www.firingsquad.com to see ATIs new found prowess at devastating the Nvidias in Opengl performance. And I would say the drivers are only in alpha and the engineers are reporting significant room for even more performance improvements. So might want to reconsider the GPU choice.
  25. You might want to rethink the 7800 gt card......check out the news at www.hexus.net and www.firingsquad.com as for the brand new performance of the ATI in Opengl games. I s**t you not you wont believe it! Nvidia getting its a** handed to it!
