  1. Wow this is great info.
  2. **** I am jealous. I recently read an article about SBC cutting down on the ways people use internet connections....like if people use voip technology to make phone calls, SBC is actually going to disable those packets until people start paying for the privilege of making voip calls. How freaking lame is that? As you can tell I am an SBC customer here on the West coast. I really wish Verizon was coming here.
  3. Nice phone. Check the webiste to see if they have Linux compatible softwares or not. That should tell you. If not then check if end users have a Linux compatible software made specifically for your phone thru forum searching. Thats about all I know buddy.
  4. Agree with ripken. More is the only way to go!
  5. I dunno. I value all you guys opinions but for some reason WMP seems to be great. I dont have a prob with DRM but I dont know why you guys call it bloated. I like the interface.....and i use it as the default player for all sorts of divx, xvid, real,qt vids and so on. And I use winamp lite to manage my music. Thats it. 2 players. Oh and Powerdvd 6 for DVds.
  6. Try Ccleaner. There is a tools section that will do what you are looking for and i dont think it can get easier than that! Hope that helps.
  7. You might want to try a Linux forum.....especially Ubuntu's own forum. Dont think there are a lot of people here who use Linux. But from what i can see, I think you could need to install the nvidia drivers first before getting X to run.
  8. I dont have the problems he is talking about either. I havent rebooted in days. I just hibernate and I have observed my XP install memory usage does not go higher than 200 mb when idle. That is with OpenOffice quickloader on and with around 23 processes running. XPs memory management does not suck. It is quite normal for memory to get gobbled up bit by bit to a certain point.....something like around 200 mb or so cause that is the information the system probably needs to run at its best. When I installed Suse 9.3 on a workstation with a gig of RAM it made sure to hog every bit of available RAM before it would thrash the disk and that is good programming IMO. You want to use up all the fastest resources that is what they are there for. But yeah if there are memory leaks then that is a different problem. I have not rebooted in over 2 weeks and I run a variety of different apps no memory leaks or anything....system is rock solid. Oh yeah I got Diskkeeper service running in the background as well and in the years of using diskkeeper I never had a BSOD.
  9. Agreed. Safe mode is prob useful when uninstalling graphics drivers and so on but even then....u can do it without being in safe mode.....
  10. I think right now almost everyone has a gmail account. Wonder if that darn thing will ever go out of beta! I have google talk as well. It just rocks...sure there are a few features missing like conference calls but **** the quality is just so good!
  11. Well sex and working out will help from getting depressed. trust me. That and a meaningful relationship.
  12. Google but the search thing wont be Google's trump card quite soon I dont think. I think Google was a much needed shot in the arm. They are going to branch out from where they are right now to all aspects of computing. It is just everything they do is just so darn easy to use, gmail, google talk, maps, earth etc etc.....and now they have turned their sights on OpenOffice and I applaud that. It is like one big giant do-gooder I guess. Sure there are people with conspiracy theories about how google is building a giant database about users and their surfing habits but you know what I dont have anything to hide. They are not going to be able to infringe on my privacy or whatever I do at home unlike the Patriot Act.....hehe.
  13. I only stock what I like....
  14. Unmarried no kids. Maybe get married next year who knows....but at least I am one of those few lucky people who know they wont get screwed once they actually tie the knot!
  15. I have heard the same thing. Dont go with SBC no matter what. I dont know if they are big in the East coast but try to avoid them at all costs. Seems like Verizon is the way to go they are laying fiber lines everywhere.
  16. I think there was an article out that was forwarded to my inbox by Sun talking about which certifications are being given value right now and the MS ones were not listed.
  17. Good luck. I would think now that your mobile phone software should be compatible for Linux to make this whole infrared thing work. But I dont know if there is anything like that. What kind of a mobile phone are you using?
  18. So he is out of disk space and he is out of RAM as well considering he dont want to have a few megs running on a service that will automatically defrag for him everytime the screensaver is running...
  19. Thanks. I already got QT alternative installed but since I dont and never really have used much of Real's stuff I am not getting the real alternative as of yet. am tempted to uninstall windows media player 10 but I think I will keep it because I use it to rip cds.
  20. yet be able to watch vids that are embedded in website pages? Meaning if there is a wmv vid in a website page with the removal of WMP 10 would I sitll be able to view it? Or would MPC be able to view it and thus totally negate the need of having WMP 10?
  21. Exactly. I dont even remember the last time I had to boot my machine up...hibernate all the way. And I have been closely monitoring the RAM usage and contrary to popular belief, the memory usage goes up to a certain point...in my case around 250 mb and then just chills there. I think the longer you use your machine the longer the OS gathers information about most commonly executed tasks and so on....just information for it to run as smooth and as fast as is possible...and thats why the mem usage goes up but to a certain point. I remember when I installed Linux Suse 9.2 I believe on a workstaiton, it would use up almost all the RAM as much as it could when tasks were running so as to minimize access to the hdd which is I think what good OSes should do to speed up everything. The workstation had a gig of ram and with all the daemons and tasks running it would take up 900mb easy....
  22. Is it possible to hook up to SCSI hard drives in RAID 0 and have 2 SATA drives hooked in RAID 0 as well in the same machine? I am in the market for a DCC and was hoping to stick the OS and the editing scratch disks as the 2 SCSI disks in RAID 0.....and the SATA to be the storage hdds.
  23. I thought the reason that Intel had problems with the P4 not scaling well with the clock speed increases besides the memory controller was the fact that it had some insane number of stages in the pipeline.....31 to be exact in the Prescott....and apparently longer pipelines enables people to crank the clockspeeds....so since Intel was marketing morons with the idea that higher clockspeed equals more speed...they just kept increasing the number of stages.
  24. Wha? Errr when you reinstall XP all you have to do is reactivate adn definitely not repurchase XP....and if you cant get rid of the trojan then there is no way other than reformatting.
  25. Console game quality is not as great as pc. The next gen consoles may be different but I doubt it. If the level at which ATI is releasing GPUs is of any indication, the R600 product is gonna rock the house. Rumor is they are actually using the Xenos gpu aka R580 in the Xbobx 360 to as a testbed to design the nextgen grphx card for PCs aka the R600...it will feature a unified architecture. These are great times for PC users.
