  1. Besides an MSDN or an illegal torrent I dont know where else to get an XP without an SP.
  2. Its not that Pro has so many darn features over Home...over half of the users with Pro dont know anyway. XP Home is not a multithreaded OS. That is my biggest pet peeve. But Pro is. Care to explain why? I am curious!
  3. Welcome and I am sorry to say I dont understand your question.

    Hi All

    Welcome to msfn.
  5. Welcome....lol @ the bad grammar content.
  6. I looked at the screenies and besides some blocks...I just dont get it...what is it being shown on the screen?!
  7. Unreal 3 techdemo is out but the catch is that apparently you need an Intel CPU to play it. Im just curious if it would be possible to somehow have a work around and play on AMD as well but I doubt it. link to the demo itself http://www.intel.com/cd/ids/developer/asmo...home/234133.htm screenshots http://www.gamershell.com/pc/robohordes/sc...shots.html?id=6
  8. http://www.openoffice.org/ Nice!
  9. I dont think that feature is offered in the Nvidia boards so far. AA with HDR is only available in the Crossfire setup AFAIK.
  10. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=988870 Hot **** that is amazing looking! Way to go ATI!
  11. Maybe your mom is right! Nah I am just messin with ya! Studies have shown higher brain activity when gaming...because it is a mental challenge.

    why ?

And also I think the space is taken up by the file system itself to remember where and what bits are located.
  13. I need to build a DCC rig but I am tyring to stall as much as I can with the advent of socket F from AMD and DDR2 capable processors. Also we will have to do at least 3 months of travelling so it will be even more prudent for me to wait. I hope I can staill till 2k7 honestly when the quad core monsters come out.
  14. Go with an AMD you would save money and at the same time get a better performance in anything else besides gaming as well.
  15. Great suggestions. I would wait to build a computer right now because of the slew of hardware updates coming out and also that would enable in price drops of older hardware. So my advice is to hold out as long as you can and till like March or so and then buy your rig and you will find the same amount of money going a longer distance.
  16. Look there will always be one thing better than the other then that will be beat by some other product. Right now is the time for FF because IE had was in the lead all this time before but then it started getting long in the tooth. IE 7 seems quite promising but we wont know yet. What is true though that MS does not stick to standards for coding HTML pages and that is a big pet peeve of mine because there are standards already set and MS has no right to screw with that thus empowering IE for certain sites and screwing other browsers that are trying to compete.
  17. Seconded.
  18. Very handy sir!
  19. So no beta testers are able to tell us non beta testers why it would be a good idea for Win XP Users to upgrade to Vista? I dont care about the gui. Right now it is in beta so I am sure that it will be hard on the memory and so on anda fat load of services running. But other than that things are probably not that noticeable eh?
  20. Wow XP 64 bit gives you manual control over your ports?
  21. I think you can petition for the plugin. PlanetAMD64 has a peition running and there you can find the links to go to the java sun website and in the bug fix section they arelady have a RFE or whatever it is called for that 64 bit browser plugin...Sun seems to be dragging its feet since they only consider adding functionality once it has some number of votes. Go vote there.
  22. I dont know about parallel running. But yes it is better than 32 bit XP simply because the 64 bit version was built using Win 2k3 SP1 same as with Vista. So you get better and more robust memory management for starters. And possibly a more powerful task scheduler. and the NT kernel has some tweaks because the version is 5.2 instead of 5.1. If properly written 64 bit softwares exist it will be a lot faster than their 32 bit counterparts simply because of the increase in the number of registers. It is a great work by MS but it is sort of in limbo rihgt now because there are not too many drivers out for it.
  23. I think you will be fine with 800 Mhz. I would recommend you get a copy of XP...Home should be fine. Get nLite tweak the heck out of nLite if you are having trouble as people for help or their session file. And then go to www.theeldergeek.com and www.blackviper.com and www.tweaktown.com and www.tweakguides.com and tweak out your machine. Also upgrade your RAM and if possible your hard drive. You will be fine. Just remember to update Windows regularly....that is my biggest pet peeve...mainly people on this planet with legit copies of XP never update...stupid.
  24. It has to be Linux. There is no other alternative OS I can see that would be suitable for a situation like this is there?
