  1. There is a utility called "Destop Rename" (desktoprename.exe) it can rename all desktop icons including My comuper, Documents, Recyle bin, Network, and IE which i got from SAA (stand alone applications) but currently i dont hav that bckup cd better do a search, u wiil get it
  2. .net 3.0 need 2.0 and installs 2.0 .net 2.0 need 1.1 and installs 1.1 so if u install 3.0 it install both 1.1 & 2.0 that's it ASAT
  3. first of all THIS is not the way of posting any Qns READ FORUM RULES For the problem u stated , i think its due to the cooling system, CPU fan may not be working this causes the system to overheat and caue automatic switchoff After temp goes low system trying to power up, which again causing heating and switch off so check ur COOLING SYSTEM
  4. .net framework 2.0 installs sme 1.1 files and create a 1.1 direcory in C:\windows\micosoft .net directory it maps 1.1 queries to 2.0 dlls (i think so) .net framwork 3.0 need 2.0 to be installed on the system (to verify this extract dotnetfx3.exe and see the .net 2.0 installer inside the 3.0 installer) so first .net 3.0 installs 2.0 and then 3.0 components (WPF,WCF, etc) the 2.0 installs its reqired 1.1 compnents BTW u endup with u r system havin 1.1, 2.0 & 3.0 versions of .net wen u install 3.0 i dont think any programs using 1.0 , realey u can find some old programs usin 1.1 version of .net most of .net apps use 2.0 or 3.0 nowadays (VS 2005 or 2008 compiled) info some VS 2008 apps need .net fw version 3.5
  5. title and says da problem the system was infected by sme viruses and smthin i managed to remove most of them by avast's boot time scanning and spybot S&D but still lage no of ie processes running in takmgr if i keep takmgr open den no ie process comes up but if i close it and open after sme time den it shows more ie processes again bcoz of dis ,i think so, getting virtual memory low msg. any soln ? s/m is XP SP2 rtm i updated ie to 7 ystrdy
  6. i want to convert a jpg file to nol ( nokia color operator logo ) is der any other app to do that ? or any converter ? the mime is : image/vnd.nok-oplogo-color how to chnage that of a jpg or bmp file ?
  7. u should put "Computername=*" to remove popup.1 put skipOOBE=yes and AutomaticUpdates=Yes for popup .2 and set HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\currentVersion\applet\Tour, RunCount to 0 {dword value) for popup 3
  8. get new replacement dvd or grab one frm frnds and use with u r own cdkey if u brought retail dvd for oem ask the oem retailer if they provide or not
  9. not m$ is not actually blacklisting any pid's Since it is abeta build it is intedded only for few tester (look it is not an even public beta or rc) so minimize the possiblility of installing it by un-intended ppl they did the same in all previous beta and rc sps (AFAIK in xp sp2, xp x64, 2k3 sp1) look at the pid.inf file it has entries only for 000 & OEM (retail and OEM editions of XP) i think the testers having retail msdn or oem discs and no vlk discs once it comes out rtm at that time m$ will ACTUALLY do the blacklisting
  10. unless u have a poweful h/w set replacing the lzx algo with 7z is tideous task of coz 7z yield best possible compression algo in terms of the archive size but imaging u 7zipping 12gb parition 512 mb p4 presscot or even in core2 with 2gb requre more time than simple wim-ing to some extend (in time taken) wim does the job but as the h/w bcome more and more powerful someday m$ will probably employ it (we hope so) Consider the squashfs in linux ,it can implement LZMA compression with a patch in the code (most of the live cd distros uses squashfs to squash the root fs)
  11. after install and configuration do "sysprep.exe /generalize /shutdown" reboot from winpe capture the install using wim and deploy
  12. did u tried loading the isolinux.bin from bcd ? try the reverse . boot the dvd with isolinux then from isolinux load bootmgr
  13. WIM is not like Ghost WIM uses file based imaging while Ghost uses sector based imaging of the hd with wim u can apply the image to a non empty partition and at the end u have both old files in tha partition and the files from wim but for ghost it wipes out old files and u only have new files, it doest cares for files but to harddisk sectors it requested to copy
  14. unless m$ stops producing 32bit OS the industry doesnt concentrate making 64 bit apps and drivers. Tats industry standard. who gonna consider few 64 bit users who want their usb camera to work in x64, while it works in millions of 32 bit s/ms Time is money It takes the usual writing->testing->debuggin -stable build cycles to produce the x64 s/w or driver, that cause lot of time for which it is not worth of time spent (wrt use of it or the demand)
  15. Dexter_Inside's guide works, I tried and created my own wim for XP install, LH installer install xp flawlessly and the end result is gr8, i get my xp with all my apps installed and configured I think it is very helpful fo ppl installing XP for large num of s/ms But i want only to install on my machine. so i did it without sysprep, ie just wiming my xp C: drive wen i want to reinstall, just put the dvd with winpe and imagex boot 2 winpe and apply the image, reboot My system is ready wim technology is much better than cloning (Ghost like apps) entire drive or disk.
  16. No , it doesnt take 10 yrs 2 become 32 obsolete, bcoz with vista recomended mem is 2gb.as memory goes cheaper ppl buy more, and eventually with M$ nxt OS anouncement (almost withing 3 yrs wich is only made 64bit) 4gb barrier will cross Microsoft = Dictators ? ya its a fact Only bcoz of the non-avaliability of common games in any other OSes (*nix) in *nix platform u get apps lot more better than simlar apps avalible in windows
  17. i got the same wen i tried unattended tryinig to load "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" on VirtualPC (wich supports only uniprocessor) so the setup stuck there. u have the same ??? trying to load multiprocesspr HAL on Uniprocessor ??
  18. why rename u can include files from both in boot folder It is hard to fiure out the occurance of the string "boot" in bootmgr it may be embed in some xsl inside the bootmgr, try digging bootmgr :/
  19. Thats' a silly multiboot mistake Consider Reading the Multiboot forum, guides much deeper U dont need to change all the entries, instead find [setupData] section of txtsetup.sif and SetupSourcePath = "\" and replace with SetupSourcePath = "\BALLS\"
  20. 1. The problem due cozing Invalid store will be the HKLM registry key access u need admin access to get write on HKLM key bcdedit uses this ket to mount the store 2. first start with a clean bcd store add entries one by one {ntldr} is an alias for actual GUID 466f5a88-0af2-4f76-9038-095b170dc21c so it cannot be recreated instead of "/create" use "/copy" and alter that entries parameter to u requirment
  21. try loading the SYSTEM hive (Windows\system32\config\SYSTEM) of the PE 2.0 and create new string value "loaderprompt" in "Setup" key follwoing the OsLoaderPath,SetupType etc EDIT: Here is the soln. changing "windows is loadinf files..."
  22. in fact Vista AERO runs on DirectX 9 (different from 9c but it is 9Ex) DX 10 is for future current games an graphic apps need 9c files
  23. IMPORTANT You should be in 64bit Platform in order to run the servicepack ie the host machine should be running 64 bit operationg S/m (XP x64 or srv03 x64) to lauche the update.exe inside the Servicepack
  24. i m using more tweaked 7960 sdk for 7.10.1.0 and working succesfully both in xp, 2k3 and vista Copy_of_Nero.English.Lite_New_2.iss
  25. i think recovery manager will show up only in attended installs bcoz as soon as the setup.exe loads (by WinPE) it searches for unattended xml files, if it detects smthing it starts install program, if not wait for the user to make decision whethear to install or recover option
