Then they killed rest of flash support and blocked multiple browsers from working with new HTML5 player that worked fine with old one. And site only works properly on Chrome...feels like 1998 and IE again... Best soluction is stop using youtube. I use Pipe-viewer (linux only) to watch videos from youtube. If need download when on XP I use invidious to search video and youtube-dlg with xp compatible FFMPEG library to download. One bundled with youtube-dlg wont work with Windows XP resulting conversion to mp3 or other format fail

It is usually since first have 7 year old Windows install filled with bloatware, fragmented drive, lot startup services. Then they do upgrade which does fresh install of Windows (been since vista) and for some reason freshly installed new Windows with no programs, fragmentation etc runs faster. Freshly installed os is fast and snappy and will only over time get slower if user wont maintain it. Second change is user had 7 year old computer with 5400rpm hard drive, bare minium of ram, integrated gpu, cpu that was low end even for time. Then they buy brand new desktop with high end cpu, gpu, plenty of ram and SSD with latest Windows and then praises Windows to be faster ignoring fact they got brand new system to new Windows. For most pc means Windows and hardware wont matter. Good example was long ago when one Mac user called Windows trash since ran slowly compared his Macbook. His Windows laptop was lowest end 200-400€ laptop with 1gb ram, Celeron M, intel gma and Macbook was 2000€ and I think it had Core2duo, 8gb ram etc (wont remember specs properly anymore). Of course 2000€ laptop is faster than cheapest market laptop. He said Windows to be reason to slowness not laptop price different.Second example is one client who said she had upgraded to Windows 10 and had some issues. I asked if she had verified hw was good enough to run Windows 10 and told her to show laptop so I could check it. Laptop was brand new with preinstalled Windows 10. They did overhype from every Windows version. And everyone are already praising Windows 11 as only os they every need. Few months before it they said they never need any other os than Windows 10. This picture define it pretty much and is still true on Windows 11 There is cult following every tech company. Tesla got it cult, so does Apple, Microsoft, Valve, Google. They are blindly praising anything new company does and try defend every single company bad decision. They also call everyone disagreeing with them id*** or something else insulting that is biggest issue. Companies got their blindly following For example I questioned some self driving car and had some of it flaws as argument and got called id*** (is there profanity filter now since part of word turned to ***? That word is not even profanity), boomer, not ready to future etc. Same when said critic about Apple anti repair practises. Got lot of hate and called id*** again. And you can guess what happen if criticise anything on Windows or linux. Same . I respect other opinions and wont go personal insults if someone disagree with me. I am sorta fanboy on some cases, Classic Nokia and SAAB as good example, but not blindly liking everything on it and can take critic from them and response to it without telling opposite id***. MSFN is pretty much last place where can have civil conversation even if criticise things without getting eaten alive. wonder if microsoft will do what Vmware did and skip 13 to 14 Well if google Floc (baked in more precise browser spyware) becomes requiments to most websites, even retail stores and banks it will be. We are reaching point where monopoly I have been warning long time starts happen. When Windows 98 came out ms paid vendors to make many usb devices only run on win98 offically since windows 98 had Internet exploiter forced in. I was able force many windows 98 exclusive usb devices run under Windows 95 with little or no tweaking and usb was not so big deal. Many pda devices (ibm workpads as good example) and phones (example nokia 9000 communicator) had serial port, so did cameras and printers until 2002 or so. Plus there NT4 as other option that still was very good to workstation use. Atleast gpu and mainboard supported Win95 until nivdia fx 5xxx. On that point there was luckily 98lite that allowed run win95 shell on windows 98 and remove ie plus there was Windows XP and Windows 2000 which even I hate IE intergration are pretty solid and mature operating systems and run xp as daily drive. There has always been two or three options to windows that been offically supported. Not talking about ability to buy it from ms since many retailers had unsold copies and internet had unused copies sold too to get it. When Windows 8 came out I knew things were going to be bad. It was impossible trying power use it on my works. Touchscreen UI got no place on desktop. Knew would be some point left with only Windows 8 as offically supported. Then Windows 10 came which was utter piece of junk and worse than Windows 98 FE with ie4. I only got Windows 10 at work laptop since all domain systems must run it and whatever ms software. On home windows 10 is banned permanently, I would rather go fully linux than win10. My issue is with win10 is constant updates, messy ui (two intergrated browsers, two control panels etc). Now Windows 11 is rolling out and seems we are slowly going Windows RT line of locked down computing devices in name of security. Actually peoples who know exploit can damage locked down system while user who is accepting fact it is locked down cannot stop it. There is no more good options on Windows. I warned long time what ms will eventually do but nobody listened since "microsoft is my friend and they care from me". We need hope community will stay strong. Do not give up using OS you like just because you are told to. Fighting back is worth it even if hard sometimes.

For Voip clients latest version of mumble client still runs under Windows XP. Murmur server used to host instance however wont. Was able login into my friend server and also public servers and use voice/text chat just fine unlike with teamspeak that latest version no longer runs on XP.

Seems MSFN is back online so can finally post this here. Since nobody seems not to have mentioned it yet, latest version of Netsurf browser for Windows runs on XP. Netsurf is minimal web browser using custom render engine. It is proof that "modern" web browser does not need have lot of bloated code and does not need hog all ram like Firefox and Chrome/Chromium forks do (and before someone says they uses ram to improve performance, how it is gonna improve performance filling ram and using swap on low ram system) . That is pretty much sweet spot between going console browser or more memory hog browser. I did run some tests under my asus eepc 900 (512mb ram, 900mhz celeron M) running tweaked Windows XP and had 25mb memory usage and 20% cpu usage at worst with it while was able access most of websites. Windows build is experimental but I had no issues with it. This is good option consider to peoples with lower end systems like @Gansangriff if you still run that Pentium 3 system Here is screenshot from ssllabs (on main pc since bigger monitor) and it ssl test. It supports all expect tls 1.3 s

So RTX 3XXX will likely be last to run under Windows 7. If I ever upgrade to newer (doubt will even go to rtx 3xxx) it is time for linux. And if going linux Nvidia drivers are pure garbage, you need choose either better performance but lot of bugs, crashes etc or stable but poor performance so will go to AMD that never had crash on my systems under linux It is not stupid, it is called "good" business practises. Planned obsolence is best way get users consume more Microsoft got enough power to do it, sometimes even artificially. Example being intel kaby lake integrated graphic cards worked under Windows 7 with adding single line to driver file. and it keeps that going as long as peoples are willing to accept anti competitive practises and consumer harm (forever). Same applies to Windows 8x which kernel is close to Windows 10 but Microsoft does not want leave you options. Microsoft want everyone use latest Microsoft browser, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows server, Microsoft Proxy Server, Microsoft Office etc. And companies and others changing away is not option since system must be compatible with other companies and some documents and spreadsheets created on latest M$ office wont work properly on libre or other third party software.

here house prices been inflating a lot in since joining euro and switching away from finnish mark. Before house costing 1 million was luxury level house, nowadays even "average sized" house can be 400 000+ depending area. Friend who built his house with back in early 2000 and sold it few years ago got 5x what he used to build and maintain it. Also price of food, living etc been going up due taxes and euro course, while most of salaries been going down. Atleast I am lucky to have decent income and wont live on most expensive areas on south Finland. Also rents have not affected too badly yet where I live Likely I will never be able to afford to buy my own house since prices of houses unless find extremely highly paid job and even for those need more work experience that only times bring. I live in rented apartment which is not too bad despite peoples saying I should buy house since cheaper on long term. I do not want take loan to build house, I never took loans, I do not even have credit card. I pay all in cash or debit card. If cannot afford something I want I save for it even long time if needed. And why I said rented apartment is not too bad Lets imagine it like this: Either you take load to pay 100 000€ or more to build a house (plus any additional) and in case damage occurs that is not your fault but insurance refuses fix you are on your own, also to move other city you need sell house that may take time and that is why not optimal to me, who knows what life brings. Let just say you wont go to centre of town where apartment can be 1000€ or more per month for single person block and rather go outside town where got decent connections to city trough bike, bus or other like I do. You pay 500-600 euros for three room house that may even have sauna (room filled with steam finnish use to relax ). Also all non private apartments on my area offer cable tv which is same as OTA tv here but no distraction from weather. Also good portition of electric and water is included on rent price and if did exceed it you will get that portition paid back. And if anything breaks, rent aparments services comes replace/fix it including shower, toilet, fridge, furnace. better would be laws charging extra from companies using outsourced workforce. Back in day they made all Nokia phones, Nokia Monitors, Televisions and whatever else, many finnish company also made phone/other electric parts to other companies. Later all of those started move to China for cheaper manufacturing and lot lost their jobs having economical impact. Sure prices went down but so did quality. Old finnish built Nokia product were more expensive but all of them unless recycled or beaten up still work as fully operational. I am ready pay that little extra for product that been designed and made locally...sadly there is no lot options on new market so I use used market. best soluction is for everyone think not consume. Do you need use online streaming services all the time? No. I never had netflix subscribtion or other and been doing fine. I watch and record most of movies off tv and been working fine. Sure I use youtube but if watch video many times I rather download it to computer. Do you need those fancy fashion clothing? No. I like to buy spare military clothing that will last near forever. Do you need new 1500€ toy cell phone if old works? No. My good old 6600 is doing fine after 18 years. Do you need buy new car yearly or before 10 000km? No. Drive car until it is unrepairable then start look another. Do you need post everything stupid that comes to your mind on every single social media platform? No (MSFN wont count since I visit here few times a week with my desktop) that is major issue on today consumers. They say need save climate while themself they wont do a thing to help it. Everyday choices helps. That is unpleasant to many since need give up their shiny new stuff lifestyle. Many think old computers are dangerous and toxic since leaded solder while they use their touch screen cellphones with Li-ion batteries and zero repairbility.

I would not recommend even use Windows 8.x UNLESS you got Windows Server 2012 r2 licence. Windows 8 got baked in advertising things like Windows 10, ui is utter mess since two control panels. Server 2012 r2 in other hand is way more secure, less telemetry, only classic control panel while having Windows 8 advantages. For hardware and software compability been having very good luck with display adapters (some may need manual forcing), network cards etc. Windows Server 2012 r2 with classic shell is best option if want 8x. I personally set line to Windows 7. Not going newer version in any case. For anything else I use Debian Linux with free and open source software.

First of all how much ram do you got? And for me 800mb of ram wont sound that bad for 50 tabs, you average out better than I do on same amount. Then why do you need keep 50 tabs open all the times instead of using bookmarks? Also what sites you got open Well sites can read your clipboard using javascript so would not recommend having lot of sites (read any sites) open when handling private information on clipboard like passwords. For example one of your sites is running javascript doing it and you copy password or other to clipboard to paste it on field site can capture it. I always clear clipboard before using web after had something private there.

I had nothing but bad luck with Maxtor hard disk. Same applies to later quantum disks. I had one with only half capacity left due bad blocks and consider I actually used it few more years despite it. Definitely no data integrity on that pc I had similar on my Pentium 4. Pointed finger all expect av before ditched av for good need try that at somepoint. Always left nic as default (expect with powersave and sleep disabled) and blocked scripts on browser. Maybe that will also increase downloading speeds too that feels slow compared my internet and hardware. On slower machines had faster dl under linux. Never knew about that nic thing
