"It is because tablet/toy cellphone can do everything desktop pc can and pc is dead". I hate that argument. What they even mean by everything? Scroll facebook, twitter, watch videos? Sure but how about virtualisation or software developing properly. I am afraid market will more and more shift torwards locked down toy cell phones. Too many things require one already. Even as simple as ac devices lacks option to manually control and need smartphone and app to do simple task. I have gave tablets and toy cell phones shot once and they did not pass my test (was tired of advertising baked in and lack of easy user repairs *but clearly development in Microsoft since Windows 8.0 has been tablet or other touchscreen-oritented. i really hope my workplace would do the same. I am annyoyed by windows and it preinstalled bundleware. Candy crush, xbox or other apps got no place on enterprise environment. ^this. Windows XP or 7 had their bad things (ie: IE, Product activation etc.), but they made life so much easier on enterprise environments. Microsoft Deployment toolkit, remote install, system shadow copy for shared folders, software centre, windows update server. Some of those who did not like it likely had no pain deal without them on enterprise. Also some criticise it eye candy (Windows XP luna theme aka "bozo the clown theme" and Windows 7 Aero) but atleast it can be disabled on both Windows XP and Windows 7 so can choose eyecandy (like I do) or classic style. They forgave Internet Exploder forcing and bundling, DRM issue breaking some music on Windows Vista since bug, Windows Genuine advantage breaking and rendering all Windows XP (if wga tool was installed) and vista systems as non genuine, replacing proper UI with metro which is like using Windows 1.0 again, forcing Windows 10 upgrade against user will and breaking lot stuff, Windows 10 activation servers breaking, constant OS breakups and list goes on... Peoples are too blind to see fact it is not ok.

Why is Internet Explorer still inbuilt in Windows 10?
Nokiamies replied to bookie32's topic in Windows 10
what is most stupid is removing some simple useless component ubuntu wants force to your causes whole DE flagged to be removal. Same wont happen on mint or debian or anything else with same it is because companies do not care about privacy, security or customer opinions. They care about increase shareholder value at any cost good examples being ads everywhere on windows, forcing ms account even to simple tasks and on ubuntu side was Amazon spyware preinstalled on systems. I wish companies and others here would do same and stop using Windows, but no since "Linux is unknown and nerd os". Redhat is way better than Windows 10 for security, privacy and reliability I personally run pure Debian with XCFE for having full control over my system. Volunteer made projects rarely does anything bad. -

So I am not only "crazy" to slap ssd to netbook. I got Asus EEEPC 900 with 900mhz celeron M. Installed 256gb kingston UV500 Msata ssd (which was cheapest Msata SSD here) with adapter to it propieraty SSD connector. Cpu cannot run many videos or codecs fine but it makes very nice small portable movie player with Kodi with dvd quality videos. It also sounds like drill if do anything using cpu due fan desing.

Why is Internet Explorer still inbuilt in Windows 10?
Nokiamies replied to bookie32's topic in Windows 10
Same here, only way access on switch control panel on web is using Active X and Internet Explorer. Could use old FF if it could work on java but no. Only where need use it. Atleast they got rid of outlook 2003 web and Project server 2003 since needed Internet Explorer and had some issues on newer IE. Web is built on open standards but open standards are not compatible with internet explorer. I hope we would finally get some proper open web standard and not invent new ones every day (like google does now causing sites on other browsers/older Google chrome to break after every new HTML5 standard they make) that is most annyoing thing about unneccessary depencies. Whenever they drop IE it might even render some games unusable. Internet Explorer depency to everything was huge mistake in my opinion. Outlook 97 did fine with no IE -

all uninstall does is removing Iexplorer.exe stub since it is baked in to windows deeply since 1997. Microsoft edge will replace on upcoming update then have different thing baked in to OS unremovably. Is it outlook 2010? If so it uses Internet explorer render engine and may not like stub being removed so can you try with IE enabled? -

Only issue I could see is possible driver errors (due signatures) on any newer drivers made after that date to xp but it will likely just trigger signature warning about not passing XP logo test (like some devs actually cared sign their drivers to XP after 2014). Second may be warning on starting application made after date that will happen anyway in 99% of sw but it wont kill XP. mine is still kicking strong. It did not explode, can still access web, install files -
Can I ask specs of your hardware? What chipset, what board, any external usb controllers? Also is system OEM prebbuilt or custom build? I have found that exact issue on DELL and IBM/Lenovo boards (thinkcentre m62, optiplex gx260, optiplex gx620) with intel 845, 915 or 945 chipsets. It hangs on reboot if usb pendrive, usb modem or other is connected on Windows 98SE. It has not happened any other of my boards only those OEM ones. Only answer I found is not to have usb plugged in. It is bios bug likely

I hate any ad that is repetive and intrusive. Good example is one loan company which advertises on Kutonen (tv channel owned by discovery) now. During everytime commercial breaks starts and it shows channel intro it keeps playing longer and on bottom of screen shows smartphone with slider with amount of load above (since it must be smartphone to sell loans to new gen) then advertising starts "Do you need get a loan? We here in <company name> want help you save on loans (and of course not squeezing extra profit off you). Visit at <website>". Same is showed during every single commercial break begin and end. They must have had very bad sales on loans since they been trying 2 other channels already, company logo changed multiple times and peoples on finnish board are annyoed to it advertising. I do not need loan and if I would I would get it from my bank not from some small company which owners were previously failed IT company. Nowadays I recored that channel on DVR and remove adversiting using video editor. Now all ads are either loans, buy streaming service or operators trying push me new contract and smartphone constantly. I miss TV commercials from normal things like food, decorations etc. On mobile I do not see ads since got old symbian phone with only few apps installed. On pc I use adblocking scripts for safety and privacy so only places I hear/see commercials are on TV/Radio and side of roads while driving

is windows xp 64 bit better than the x86 version of xp?
Nokiamies replied to legacyfan's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Was that to client or was required by you to something? I have seen dual sound card but never 4 on any system (well never worked on studios) -
Pentium 4 478 socket or 775 socket? Also what mainboard, cpu, gpu, sound card and which driver version you tried? Also was it windows 98 or windows 98SE that is possible too on 9x if configured proper. It takes time configure. Before I had lot of crashes on my Pentium 3 system but after using known stable drivers, installing few updates, making sure hdd is ok all worked fine NTOSKRNL.EXE contains boot screen of windows 2000 on bitmap format. Modifying it is no easy task. It is not like on windows 98. But possible. One tool that may do the trick is tuneup utils bootscreen tool. I used it back in day to change bootscreens on windows. Windows 2000 logo on start menu is on shell32.dll and not sure how swap it. Anything I said from modifying is high risk and may result system to be unbootable. First fully update win2000 before trying since patches will break stuff if doing bigger mods.

What is strange many think new products are better for climate and safer than keeping using old one. Nothing is user servicable today. Issue is beyond electrical devices. It even affects todays car industry. Many modern car for example you cannot even change battery. Car refuses start engine if old battery been drained to empty and/or removed to good charged one and need take it service to make it work again. Also modern car sensors causes lot of issues. I know few cases where brake by wire caused car car accident since brakes did not work. And peoples say buying new car is good for climate and safer than old ones... Back in day many peoples drove cars until it broke then fixed and kept driving. There was lot car mechanics to do stuff like replace drivetrain, change headgasket etc. Many properly cars made it until 400 000-500 000km before needed any big maintenance. Nowadays cars are designed last way less since "who drives car over 10 000km nowadays". Today car companies wants you buy new car instead or repairing old one. I dare to say 40 year old saab 900 turbo with 2.0l engine that been properly maintained is way better to climate than any modern car that is meant last few years at best since repairbility. If companies would make simple user repairable cars with manual transmission, no drive assistants, fusebox accessible under hood, normal gauge cluster without fancy displays, no computers and reliable but simple engine I would buy it but it seems nobody does.

here they stopped use of landlines by increasing price of contract to ridiciliously high compared gsm prices then stopped selling landlines with excuse nobody wants use. Sure nobody does when it was ridiously high priced to push cell phones. So there is no option. I here. I chose less evil option. Older early 2000 GSM mobile phones (got few nokia, siemens and samsung ones). In finland we got good GSM coverage, last time had call dropping 12 years ago. I miss landline as option. all my cellphones from late1990/early 2000 have survived and still operated. Few of them needed fresh battery after been sitting forever in closet. Back in day cell phones were built to last too but one point they started reduce body/build quality and blocking repairs. All I need to take apart my 6600 is needle. Not all cell phones are total garbage and breaking. Most just think cell phone as iPhone or other non locked down device not oldschool one. If they ever drop GSM I stop using phones. Not going to modern smartphone in any case.

Here is mine running on "unsupport" h87 chipset on "unsupported" ACHI with "unsupported tv tuner": Got all drivers installed expect to some useless asus own device. And they say XP wont work proper on "fast" hardware. This thing is flying with XP

N edition installation image lacks media player files so and in place upgrade will likely erase your settings only (Windows 10 allows install over existing one from dvd) but key is different on N and normal editions. What do you need on normal windows 10 pro? If media features you can use Windows Media feature pack for N editions of Windows. That adds same features.

if you do not need screenshare try run it inside firefox or chrome. I run my discord inside firefox and can still use voice, search and others. One thing you may try before it is disable discord hardware accerlation. It been causing gpu driver freezing on my windows 7 system before switched to browser. last windows server that had big improvement was windows server 2003 and it shadow copy feature. It allowed snapshots from files on shares incase user removed them by accident. Reduced it department headache a lot

that is new bug to me. What gpu? I need to try it on my system to see if get same. Can you use something like afterburner or gpu-z to check vram usage while lags? sounds familiar story. I used windows 95 and windows 98 on my dad computers and took me few years before got my first computer (cannot recall exact year but was long ago). It had Pentium 4 2.80, whopping 1gb of ddr ram, ati 9800 and windows XP. I played games and run Virtual machines on Virtual pc 2004 and 2007 on it. That computer originally drove me study to IT technician since wanted understand more from computers and programs and never looked back since. Was best decision I made
