So RTX 3XXX will likely be last to run under Windows 7. If I ever upgrade to newer (doubt will even go to rtx 3xxx) it is time for linux. And if going linux Nvidia drivers are pure garbage, you need choose either better performance but lot of bugs, crashes etc or stable but poor performance so will go to AMD that never had crash on my systems under linux It is not stupid, it is called "good" business practises. Planned obsolence is best way get users consume more Microsoft got enough power to do it, sometimes even artificially. Example being intel kaby lake integrated graphic cards worked under Windows 7 with adding single line to driver file. and it keeps that going as long as peoples are willing to accept anti competitive practises and consumer harm (forever). Microsoft monopoly keeps groving while nobody is willing to actually aknowledge it. All normal user can do is try to choose not to use it but over time it gets harder and harder since companies actively try prevent it. Windows vista was closer to Windows 7 but got xp treatment. Same applies to Windows 8x which kernel is close to Windows 10 but Microsoft does not want leave you options. Microsoft want everyone use latest Microsoft browser, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows server, Microsoft Proxy Server, Microsoft Office etc. And companies and others changing away is not option since system must be compatible with other companies and some documents and spreadsheets created on latest M$ office wont work properly on libre or other third party software.

here house prices been inflating a lot in since joining euro and switching away from finnish mark. Before house costing 1 million was luxury level house, nowadays even "average sized" house can be 400 000+ depending area. Friend who built his house with back in early 2000 and sold it few years ago got 5x what he used to build and maintain it. Also price of food, living etc been going up due taxes and euro course, while most of salaries been going down. Atleast I am lucky to have decent income and wont live on most expensive areas on south Finland. Also rents have not affected too badly yet where I live Likely I will never be able to afford to buy my own house since prices of houses unless find extremely highly paid job and even for those need more work experience that only times bring. I live in rented apartment which is not too bad despite peoples saying I should buy house since cheaper on long term. I do not want take loan to build house, I never took loans, I do not even have credit card. I pay all in cash or debit card. If cannot afford something I want I save for it even long time if needed. And why I said rented apartment is not too bad Lets imagine it like this: Either you take load to pay 100 000€ or more to build a house (plus any additional) and in case damage occurs that is not your fault but insurance refuses fix you are on your own, also to move other city you need sell house that may take time and that is why not optimal to me, who knows what life brings. Let just say you wont go to centre of town where apartment can be 1000€ or more per month for single person block and rather go outside town where got decent connections to city trough bike, bus or other like I do. You pay 500-600 euros for three room house that may even have sauna (room filled with steam finnish use to relax ). Also all non private apartments on my area offer cable tv which is same as OTA tv here but no distraction from weather. Then they offer free 10mb/s cable modem broadband connection for free and 100mb/s cable modem connection with 10 euros/month. Also good portition of electric and water is included on rent price and if did exceed it you will get that portition paid back. And if anything breaks, rent aparments services comes replace/fix it including shower, toilet, fridge, furnace. To get rid off house I just tell rent company I will sign off and withing next month my rent ends

I am feeling: Frustrated. Workshift started by finding Windows 10 messing up some settings after update and even worse firefox messing totally with their new UI. Need redo few things before can work. Waste of time

better would be laws charging extra from companies using outsourced workforce. Back in day they made all Nokia phones, Nokia Monitors, Televisions and whatever else, many finnish company also made phone/other electric parts to other companies. Later all of those started move to China for cheaper manufacturing and lot lost their jobs having economical impact. Sure prices went down but so did quality. Old finnish built Nokia product were more expensive but all of them unless recycled or beaten up still work as fully operational. I am ready pay that little extra for product that been designed and made locally...sadly there is no lot options on new market so I use used market. best soluction is for everyone think not consume. Do you need use online streaming services all the time? No. I never had netflix subscribtion or other and been doing fine. I watch and record most of movies off tv and been working fine. Sure I use youtube but if watch video many times I rather download it to computer. Do you need those fancy fashion clothing? No. I like to buy spare military clothing that will last near forever. Do you need new 1500€ toy cell phone if old works? No. My good old 6600 is doing fine after 18 years. Do you need buy new car yearly or before 10 000km? No. Drive car until it is unrepairable then start look another. Do you need post everything stupid that comes to your mind on every single social media platform? No (MSFN wont count since I visit here few times a week with my desktop) that is major issue on today consumers. They say need save climate while themself they wont do a thing to help it. Everyday choices helps. That is unpleasant to many since need give up their shiny new stuff lifestyle. Many think old computers are dangerous and toxic since leaded solder while they use their touch screen cellphones with Li-ion batteries and zero repairbility.

I would not recommend even use Windows 8.x UNLESS you got Windows Server 2012 r2 licence. Windows 8 got baked in advertising things like Windows 10, ui is utter mess since two control panels. Server 2012 r2 in other hand is way more secure, less telemetry, only classic control panel while having Windows 8 advantages. For hardware and software compability been having very good luck with display adapters (some may need manual forcing), network cards etc. Windows Server 2012 r2 with classic shell is best option if want 8x. I personally set line to Windows 7. Not going newer version in any case. For anything else I use Debian Linux with free and open source software.

First of all how much ram do you got? And for me 800mb of ram wont sound that bad for 50 tabs, you average out better than I do on same amount. Then why do you need keep 50 tabs open all the times instead of using bookmarks? Also what sites you got open Well sites can read your clipboard using javascript so would not recommend having lot of sites (read any sites) open when handling private information on clipboard like passwords. For example one of your sites is running javascript doing it and you copy password or other to clipboard to paste it on field site can capture it. I always clear clipboard before using web after had something private there.

I had nothing but bad luck with Maxtor hard disk. Same applies to later quantum disks. I had one with only half capacity left due bad blocks and consider I actually used it few more years despite it. Definitely no data integrity on that pc I had similar on my Pentium 4. Pointed finger all expect av before ditched av for good need try that at somepoint. Always left nic as default (expect with powersave and sleep disabled) and blocked scripts on browser. Maybe that will also increase downloading speeds too that feels slow compared my internet and hardware. On slower machines had faster dl under linux. Never knew about that nic thing

what hardware it was? How much ram, what cpu, gpu, hdd etc. I had exactly opposite experience on my systems and never had those issues. Sounds you had no proper video drivers/ones provided were bad or just bad luck.

Both been lasting well and been useful I got 1gb and 4gb mp3 players that are unbranded and old. Both are those classic flash drive sized players with black and white display and backlit and serves me well. Also both got audio recorder and fm radio with rds I use mine on hiking/walking sometimes and with special Panasonic AA rechargable batteries I bought. With it I reach around same playtime as you even on cold winter. For me 1gb is enough fill many CD worth of music with decent (near cd) audio quality. I am not fan of Spotify or Itunes or other streaming services. I got my music as physical copies and thanks to law allowing backup disks to own use got them on hdd and mp3 player too. No ads, no nags, work outside carrier reception, no need pay every month for something you wont own

also blocking UPNP on network helps. Otherwise even javascript can open port from firewall even if blocked it manually. You do not need UPNP to 95% of things.

bicycle depends if lot snow and roads have not been cleared yet then might be hard but even then can walk. Old army bicycles are option for cold endurance. Full steel frame, wide tires, no gears or handbrakes. I used to have one of those then did mistake and changed it aluminum toy that went to warranty once already since busted frame... plan get another of those army bikes some day. What comes to walking just get one of those thermal bags to phones and buy army winter jacket and gloves militaries sells as spares (british, finnish, german army atleast do so). With those can walk without worries even at near -40c to work and back. I did so during this year and 2 winters ago with bicycle. Finnish sisu is not just myth, it is reality But during summer we have warm weather allowing better use bicycles. Feels good to only use T-Shirt when bit over month ago still had heavy army jacket and gloves

all you need is Windows 10 install medium. I have done clean install to ssd without preloading Windows 7 or 8.1 using win7 key

That requires more recharges that consumes more energy, put more strain on electric grid (in Finland we sometimes at -35 reached near limit of our power grid and were advised not to use saunas on too long and avoid excess use of lights. Add 2 million or more electric cars to that on chargers. Network would need insane amount of upgrade and also lot of new plants and of course those would be "clean" nuclear power plants (let just ignore all reactor accidents in a world and fact Finland could produce energy without it). Also cold and extra charge cycles required will shorten battery lifespan and need new batteries faster. Better long term soluction would be alternate energies that could work with current cars. There has been research from biofuels here and atleast before they offered cheap e85 conversion kits to cars to run on bioethanol. Bioethanol is not perfect mostly since petrol got much more energy and for that reason needs, but overtime alternate fuels will get better. Also finland got best recycle system in world, here forest owners plants new trees in place of old ones when cut them and that helps to co2. Those in addition of alternate fuels could help properly against climate change that works well if town got living areas within 5-10km from centre and got proper walking lanes like in my home city. You can get well with car, bicycle or walking and I wont drive a lot. I even walk to work at mornings around 5-6am and walk around 8-9km in hour. Less co2 and better health thanks to it. Just enjoy sunrise and fresh air. I only needed bus few times and train few times atleast when I was kid still my parents had one car so did most of friends parents. One car did fine enough since bicycles and walking. You definitely do not need one if you got good connections on town. Car is moneywaster unless use it a lot. Any car will need spare parts at some point and depending what broke can be pain and expensive to repair so no shame if wont have one

If key has not been previously used you should be working still to Windows 10 upgrade. Just enter key during fresh install of Windows 10. I did it bit over month ago to one and it worked still with win7 starter key so it very likely still works
