  1. @WinClient5270 Also, Foxit PDF Reader 10.x.x does not work on Vista. The installer will open and run till a point just fine, but then it crashes. https://imgur.com/xMlfceH https://imgur.com/FbYrCNK https://imgur.com/HlGxYED I'm yet to test with a workaround such as Application Verifier.
  2. @WinClient5270 Please add IOBit Smart Defrag to the list. Comes in both Free and Pro versions. Both the free and Pro versions support HDD defragmentation as well as manual SSD TRIM.
  3. Huh? I strongly disagree and I'm 100% sure that many other guys out there feel the same way. Not intending to pick a fight though
  4. Yes, thanks for suggesting (but not now, no, it's half past 12 now and time for lunch!)
  5. No they did not, there's no email in my inbox regarding fixing the problem
  6. Merry Christmas to all of you wise folks on this wonderful forum and Happy New Year 2021!! Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Stay safe, stay online and have a wonderful time!! (BTW, I'm a Hindu so I don't celebrate Christmas myself)
  7. You can always report this on the Nvidia driver forum (I'm only guessing because I don't have a desktop to test these GPUs on or an rtx 20xx or 30xx GPU). Customer is always king, as @xpclient rightly said somewhere on this forum
  8. This installer package works with Vista (it installed successfully but TRIM, FW update etc. was unavailable, due to me having a Kingston SSD), but I don't know whether your model is supported. Here it is: https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Corsair-SSD-Toolbox.shtml
  9. Same here. Very sad to see that the crappy, spying, crashing, bloated, FisherPrice-looking, user-unfriendly Windows 10 is being promoted by MS guys, who know the power users who used and loved Windows 2000, XP, Vista etc.etc. and still use it to this day. I hate its mobile first approach I'm planning to use Windows Vista and 7 and 8.x till atleast 2023, when full support for the three ends (Vista ESU, 7 ESU, 8.0 Server 2012 updates and 8.1 direct updates). Also, if I can use them for longer, I will certainly do so until either my hardware can't keep up or when these OSes become completely obsolete, and seeing as there are many wise members here at MSFN dedicated to keeping legacy Windows versions alive, that moment is set to come only long after, in the very far future. Also, I'm going to completely move to Linux when Windows Vista, 7 and 8 become obsolete and am never going to bother with Microsoft from that moment. If you've liked what I said, please do upvote. No compulsion intended though.
  10. Yes, @AeroSeeker, I agree with you that Linux is in many ways better than Windows 10, but one of the things I love about earlier Windows versions is that the UI was great (for example, Windows Vista's Aero UI and taskbar), but sadly, tweaking Linux to make it look just like a Windows Vista clone is impossible. I'm saying this because I'm not a fan on the Gnome, Mate, XFCE, LXDE etc.etc. themes in Linux.
  11. Exactly. The proper Vista era only began in around 2008 AFAIK as proper drivers were not available for Vista and OEMs put XP drivers on Vista installs.
  12. 17 inch is just too big for me. If I choose a laptop, then I might go with an HP Probook 6460b/6470b or an HP Elitebook 8460p/8470p. Also, I have 2 Dells already so I might also look into buying a Lenovo ThinkPad t420/t430 with an Nvidia Quadro NVS (whatever model number here) GPU and a quad core i7.
  13. I won't be downloading many 4k/8k videos but will watch them on YouTube mostly.
  14. No. Still, I'm interested in seeing how Windows Betas were like and I'm planning to build a powerful Vista desktop that will replace my old but trusty yet deemed for replacement Pentium D desktop. It will have an i5 or i7 (Sandy or Ivy Bridge), a Nvidia 700 series GPU (preferably a GT 710 as I won't game but will multitask quite a lot) 12 or 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. This will be for virtualisation, storing and watching family videos and movies (4k and 8k) and advanced audio editing. Now that does not mean that my main laptop (Dell Latitude e5420) is not powerful. It is very fast for running one VM at a time. But, sometimes virtualisation sessions can become insanely intensive (when running Windows 95, 98, Vista and 7 VM's all at the same time, for example) and for that, the laptop just isn't enough. So, I will use the desktop for this kind of stuff.
  15. Ok I see.... Have you been an official MS beta tester any time?
  16. Then it maybe a pre-reset build (4039 or 4074 or 4093)?
  17. Yes, so taking that into consideration, I will use an SSD as OS drive and an HDD as data drive on my custom desktop. I might also dualboot a Vista install with updates and one without (the clean install on the HDD and updated install on SSD), purely for testing.
  18. I'm asking this purely out of curiosity: How many of you Vista users who have read this forum topic have tested Vista betas? If any of you have done so, please share your experience with Vista betas.
  19. Yes, I understand, but 10k RPM HDD's are expensive here in our Indian local market, about 250-300 USD. Don't know about Ebay.
  20. It's not necessarily bad, but it caused issues on my Vista as I had installed only Security+Quality rollups from Aug.2018 to Jan, 2020 and this was not a rollup, so it conflicted.
