  1. Is your network adapter connected to the VM and set to NAT mode? That's what I do to ensure internet connectivity on VM's. Btw, if that is not causing the issue, then I don't know what does.
  2. Wanted to addon even more: I can't believe that Microsoft, William Henry Gates the Third's large software company created the crap that is Windows 10 when I know that they have created wonderful stuff in the past such as Windows Vista, 7, XP, 2000, Office 2003-2010 etc.. I'm sure all of you retro Windows diehards share my opinions about Windows 10 and the MS of today. I want to conclude this post here by saying that Windows 10 is just crap with nothing very useful added to it (Task View is a new feature but I never used it and have never found it to be user friendly) and that Windows 95, 2000 and Vista are the gods of Windows OSes.
  3. Wanted to addon: Windows 10 beat Windows 7 by market share ONLY in 2018, which means that there was a lot of backlash against it. Still, Windows 7 users moved on to Windows 10 and did not hold out and question the useless developments in Windows 10, only because they knew EOS was coming closer. Honestly, MS makes Windows 7 users think that it's the end of the world if their favourite OS stops receiving updates. Their GWX app is also very intimidating
  4. Just wanted to addon, according to the product brochure of this Latitude it is upgradeable to only any i7-2640m (the fastest Sandy Bridge dual core CPU) and 8 gigs of RAM, however, 16 gigs of RAM are recognised fully and I have seen a Youtube video on how to upgrade the e5420 to an i7-2820qm, however, it can cause some TDP and cooling issues if used very heavily.
  5. @asdf2345 Wanted to ask, have all the upgrade parts for your Elitebook been shipped?
  6. What I'm trying to say from the very beginning is : Aero and window borders are working perfectly without modifications but the control buttons present in earlier versions of VLC which matched with the look of Aero are absent in 3.x.x without the hex edit. This issue is a universal issue on Vista, as @UCyborg said. WHY don't you or Dixel understand me?? Also, I thought you knew that maximised windows in Vista turn opaque, being a longtime Vista user. This happens with all applications. Test again using a maximised window and see what happens.
  7. Tried, still refuses to work due to .net FW 4.7.2 being installed and I cannot part with it.
  8. Yes, I see what VideoLan did to VLC. Those Win10 buttons look very boring, don't you think ? I hate those square, bland buttons. This pic is from a Windows 10 VM that I have for testing However, VLC on Windows 7 looks like how it is supposed to look on Vista also with proper, curved buttons, somewhat matching with Aero design (without modifications to vlc.exe). Peculiar.
  9. Ribbon should be disabled optionally on OldNewExplorer to make Explorer revert to the (g)old-style command bar interface.
  10. Hello all, this is something that has been making my mind boggle. As you fellow forum members certainly know, Android has been giving its versions codenames starting from Cupcake upto Pie. And as you may have noticed, Android 10 was not given the name of any confectionery item. My opinion on this is: Android 10 should have been given a name of Android Q- for Qubani-ka-Meetha (it's a popular Indian sweet made of apricots, wiki page will be linked here). How many of you fellow MSFN members share my opinion and agree with what I say? Please let me know your opinion about this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qubani-ka-Meetha
  11. Well, @winvispixp, I'm in a dilemma now. Windows Update still does not work after installing the patch, due to having .net framework 4.7.2 installed on my system. I cannot part with it as it may come in handy to run some programs explicitly depending on it. Still, I can manually download the updates. Anyways, I'll add it to the guide as it may be not working only for me.
  12. Well, the temporary answer to these problems is simple. Just use virtualisation/dualboot/another computer with Windows 7/8/8.1. I recommend using Windows 8 (with UI tweaks) and avoiding Windows 10. Let's see whether in the not-so-distant future, Office 2013+ would run properly on Vista.
  13. @gerona12 Try copying and please revert to me whether it runs properly. Just wanting to know
  14. Yes I see... win32 will surely work on making Office 2013+ run properly on Vista and add some more missing functions, afaik.
  15. Sorry for the late reply, @Rouddy. This project aims at making a pure x64 version of Telegram? If so,then that's great! Tested with the extended kernel and it works just fine! It's safe too!
  16. Office 2013+ is not working entirely with the extended kernel as of now, but win32 has gotten the installer to launch and work up to an extent by adding an x86 kernel32.dll function necessary to launch the installer. More x86 functions that would make Office 2013+ to run are being added, AFAIK. Btw, I have a question. Why exactly would you need Office 2013+ now? Office 2013 and up (especially 2013) are very crappy, bloated and bad-looking, without a standard MSI installer which you could slim down to remove unneeded programs like InfoPath, Outlook (I don't use it, but maybe you and some other people do, I dunno) and Skype for Business/Lync in version 2013 (2016 and 2019, 2013 Pro Plus has an MSI installer, still, the programs are more disk-heavy that 2007 or 2010, which still work on Vista). Aero also does not work with Office 2013+ installed on Windows 7, so Aero working with Vista is not in question. According to me, the fact that Office 2010 is the last working version of Office on Vista is a blessing in disguise (I'm repeating WinClient 5270's words which he posted elsewhere on the Vista forum about the same issue ). Not meaning to insult you, but I just want to know why you need Office 2016. So please answer me.
  17. What characters to modify exactly? I tried removing one letter from the text string SetDefaultDllDirectories but then I am greeted with the "This program is not a valid Win32 application" error. Should I modify hex values of string values? Again, I am very sorry for too many questions as I know almost nothing about hex editing, dll customisation and stuff like that.
  18. Btw, this issue occured even when using a 100% clean Vista SP2 with no updates at all.
  19. I don't have the KB2533623 update installed, still, I have those flat buttons. How to mod the vlc.exe and what tools should I use? Very sorry if I'm asking too many questions Thanks in advance
  20. That's because 7 is based on Vista entirely. The Aero, the interface, the navigation, everything in Windows Vista was a foundation for how 7 looked like.
  21. Btw, I cannot live without the pitch changer as I am a curious experimenter with audio files, so I decided to put back VLC 3.0.11 on my Vista. Also, m4a audio files did not play back correctly on VLC 2.2.4, making me revert to 3.0.11. Is there any version that has the pitch changer and the proper, Aero-styled buttons?
  22. You are misunderstanding me. I never assumed what Dixel said to be a lie. I questioned how the UI was perfect, and that's not hostility, at least to me.
