  1. Vivaldi browser version 3.4.2066.106 works with the extended kernel, but with that Metro UI abomination.
  2. Unchecking everything inside Compatibility except HighVersionLie or unchecking everything else?
  3. I copied the new shell32.dll to system32 and changed opera.exe (browser version 72.0.3815.320) version no. to 6.1.7601 using application verifier, still, it does not launch. Opera.exe shows: Launcher.exe shows: EDIT 1: Could it be an issue with the browser version? Should I download version 72.0.3815.400? EDIT 2: I downloaded it from portableapps.com and there was no separate x64 version as such as with Google Chrome portable.
  4. Did it run Vista (I'm estimating it ran Vista Home Premium) properly or did it heat up all the time? Btw, my dad's friend also had an HP laptop (HP Pavilion dv6000 to be precise, it had an AMD Turion 64 x2, some Nvidia GPU, dunno which, 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM and Vista Home Premium on an 80GB HDD) and he ran it until 2017 with no issues whatsoever when the motherboard burnt. A repairman told that the laptop suffered from liquid damage and also that HP cheaped out on the cooler. End result: The HP's mobo burned and burnt a hole in my dad's friend's pocket. But I have started to like more recent HP laptops such as their Elitebooks and Probooks from 2010-2015.
  5. How did I forget about Sony Vaio? Btw, I almost got a Sony Vaio last month when I decided to choose the Latitude e5420 for using Vista as that Vaio had an Ivy Bridge i5-3337u that was actually slower than the i5-2520m on the Latitude. But the design was really attractive, no denying that.
  6. Pentium D desktop? Same here! Even I have a Pentium D (2.8 GHz, Pentium D 915) desktop from 2007 that run Vista Business SP2 x64 blazing fast! It has 3 gigs of RAM and is my secondary computer. It seldom crashes but when it crashes, it shows errors relating to HDD problem. Have to replace that 5400 rpm 160GB Seagate HDD with an SSD soon to make Vista faster and make it crash no more.
  7. The Siemens brand was non-existent in India, AFAIK. But I am thinking that it was one of the top-class brands of PC's as I have seen a YT video by Youtuber Psivewri on a Lifebook that was made by Fujitsu Siemens. Dell's laptops and desktops are superb, but yeah, some parts were not made by Dell itself. Also, was Vista a good performer with that HDD on the Vostro (I'm estimating that it's a 4200 rpm HDD)?
  8. How can I moderate? I can't remove or edit others' posts
  9. I have mostly the same opinions as you, but you're going off-topic quite a bit. Please share your Vista PC's specs as this topic is dedicated towards it rather than Vista vs. 7 stuff Also, I hate the auto-expanding of the folder tree, but to cope up with that, I hide the folder tree most of the time and pop it open and contract it only when I need to go to somewhere like the Recycle Bin or my user folder without going to the desktop or the Start menu.
  10. I meant to say the R9 280x GPU. Drivers for Vista are available on the AMD support page.
  11. I'm not a gamer but if it ever get bored using my computer for lengthy schoolwork/virtualisation, I play inkball/ purble place LoL!!
  12. @Dixel, what are the games that you play on your Vista SP1 computer? Just curious
  13. Running browsers in sandboxie? Is that what you mean?
  14. @asdf2345, have you received the upgrade parts for your Elitebook? Also, please share a system properties screenshot if you can.
  15. I myself have never used Elitebooks/Probooks, but I think they are good, but the Dell Latitudes from 2011-14 look the most professional to me.
  16. I notice there are quite a number of you members who have replied to my topic who have Vista on Dell computers, myself included. So, what you do think of Lenovo Thinkpads, HP Elitebooks/Probooks or ThinkCentres/Elitedesks/Prodesks?
  17. Instead of navigating through a humoungous forum thread, you can just download the unofficial roytam1 browser installer made by @i430VX and run it to have the browser of your choice.
  18. This happens to be my first post on the Windows XP forum, so any suggestions/additions/corrections from longtime XP users are most welcome. Antivirus: You have avast and AVG which still receive definition updates but which don't receive major app or feature updates. Firewall: Windows firewall should be enough in most cases but an additional firewall would be better, keeping in mind that XP does not have UAC . Browsers: I'm actually astonished that you have not heard of the great @roytam1's browsers! They are still supported and work well on XP, but I heard Chrome is being backported to XP. That would take some time. Until then, use roytam1's browsers. Sandboxes : I honestly don't know (lol) as I don't use any. However if sandboxie works fine, go for it. But if it doesn't, then a smart brain.exe would do. Malware scanner : Malwarebytes 3.5.1 still runs and receives definition updates. I use it instead of AV on my Vista system. In addition, update till 2019 through posready updates if you use XP x86, but if you use XP x64, then I won't be very worried as XP is used by less than 1% of worldwide PC's today, making it an unlikely target for hackers and malware.
  19. What do you use the e6410 for? Is it your main computer?
  20. Please share you experience with it if you ever did. I also want to know your main OS. Just curious
