Well the're using serial port to interact with the device (kinda hard to explain cause I only know the name of it in czech). I was given the awful task to just "make this dualboot".
-
Well I forgot to say that Windows 8.1 is booting in UEFI. That is why I said that I don’t think it will work without any hassle.

Hello, we have computer in work that runs Windows 8.1 nowadays. Some proprietary software that our company uses (from 1997 btw ) only works on Windows 7. We need dualboot that WILL DEFINITELY NOT destroy Windows 8.1 in any way or shape. On this computer we have a lot of important things (they are backed up, but still). They want the computer to be able to boot Windows 8.1 as default option, but when needed to restart into Windows 7. The problem is, that newer os is already installed and I think, that Windows 7 boot manager will not recognize Windows 8.1 and vice versa. Any ideas? The specs are: Dell Optiplex 9010 Intel Core i7-3770 16gb DDR3 GT 1030 1Tb - Hdd in raid 1 with another hdd Only one 1tb hdd. That was different machine 😅 boot ssd - 128 gb

Oh I remember my old laptop with AMD turion 64 x2 tl-60 running windows 8.1 just fine

Rtx voice is working, but this is not. I have dualboot with windows 7 and On that I get error message saying, that I have no rtx card installed. On windows 8.1 the installer continues, but says broadcast have not been installed

But who uses pentium 4 as their daily machine anyways? I don't want to wait 5 minutes just for the browser to load.
-
Well yes, but last one is from january 2020 so you still need WUFUC to function. For example reliability updates to support new browsers: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4534297/windows-8-1-kb4534297
-
Actually sometimes they are not only security fixes. Windows 8.1 received nvme updates and usb-c reliability updates. They are important for new systems.
-
Except you can install wufuc and continue using windows update (no microsoft catalog updates, no manual search)

ATTN: People using Mega.nz to share stuff here

I don't have any opinion on this, but a little side note. I own a little intel compute stick with intel Atom and 2gb of ram. I once was downloading 12gb file from mega with chrome and it was just fine. I don't think that it is really that resource heavy, but I could be wrong. -
Yeah, I'l look for the files tomorrow. Since nvidia installer does not punish windows 7 or 8.1 I used nvidia installer instead of inf installation method. I want geforce experience. Btw if you find the driver for usb-c for nvidia let me know. I have my ryzen desktop with rtx 2060 on windows 8.1 also, but I could not get the usb-c driver to work. https://prnt.sc/vvdv8i Btw I only now noticed that you're from the czech republic

No, I mean test mode. You can enter to that mode entering this to CMD: bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON. This allows you to install unsigned drivers. I did not make any online thread, because I was really unsuccessful and not satisfied with the results. Like I said, my laptop came with intel cpu WITHOUT integrated gpu. the system only had rtx 2060 for everything. Since my nvidia installer ran and "succesfully" finished driver installation it also installed nvidia usb drivers (not the type c policy controller, but it is unnecessary to have it since it only allows for VR).

My hardware id was 1F11. Driver version was 417.71 (at least I hope so, I dont really remember if I used this exact one when testing, because I was modding like 10 driver versions) Windows was booted in test mode. My cpu was i5-9300HF (it did not include integrated graphics). every single driver installed just fine. Nvme, usb 3.0.. Few games did not start at all. For example minecraft crashed with unsupported shader model. Gta v launched and worked normally, until you entered full screen mode. I got only about 50-60 frames on normal settings, so something was not functioning correctly. Windows also said in eventvwr, that gpu driver stopped responding, but was succesfully recovered (this is rough translation from czech language). Edit: and remember this was Windows 8.1. I have not tested windows 7, but I suppose it will be simmilar if not completely same.

I've got for really cheap Dell Latitude e7250 with these specs: https://prnt.sc/vv6gna Intel hd 5500 will probably be the biggest issue I've installed Windows 8.1, but I used dualboot with Vista on my previous laptop (I still have it) with 3rd gen intel cpu. I know about haswell+ bugs, but did extended kernel help? Thanks for any info. I would like to use Vista on this laptop, because the previous one has really bad battery, broken hdd cage and it is really heavy.

But I succesfully ran roblox in virtual machine? Are you sure, that vmprotect is active?
-
Yes, they work, but they offer no support at all. Current versions of Audacity are not supported on Windows 7, They may well run - but we can no longer offer support for issues that occur when using Audacity on Windows 7.
-
Well I haven't figured out how to do that tbh.

Ok that is really nice. 120 mb down is more than enough for me, but upload speed sucks. Your internet is awesome though -
Now that I think about that I only had issues with amd ryzen. 1st system that got destroyed was: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 on Windows 7 Second was: AMD ryzen 7 3700x on Windows 8.1 and mine computer running AMD ryzen 5 1600. Driver booster installed windows 10 drivers on Windows 7 and 8.1 and made them broken. For some reason system restore did nothing.
-
Well then I suggest to anyone looking for drivers to update them themselves. Driver booster actually kinda destroyed few of my windows installation. It absolutely does not care if it is installing chipset driver made for windows 10 on Windows 8.1. Yeah well sorry about that, whenever I hear about this "program" I get really mad. I just try to warn people that it can damage their operating system. One computer was left unbootable, because it replaced acpi driver.
