  1. I'm not trying to prove, that it is unusable, just trying to help win32 locate when the problem started. Also my cpu is intel core i5-5300U since it is laptop, 16 missing drivers for vista sp2 makes this unusable.
  2. @win32 I suggest you to take a look on this build: Windows Vista build 5270 I managed to install it on my 3rd gen intel laptop (took 2 days, because it is really buggy) but I got logon failure simmilar to the Vista one, albeit I could not test more things due to missing drivers obviously. Maybe something has changed around this period. I can’t say really because any other build refused to install. 5048 was the worst one, I’ve never seen so many bsods trying to boot into preinstallation environment Edit: I’ve said 3rd gen, but I’ve meant 5th gen (idk how did I mislabeled them in my head).
  3. well that prevents me from installing windows 8.1 on it. She has 1920x1080 panel. so unfortunately she's stuck with crapdows 10
  4. Gotta try that. Mom has 8gb ram model and 128gb ssd, but it is still soooo slow.
  5. I can't access his mega link. can you?
  6. Alright, here is my take on this: I use Windows 8.1 since 2014. initialy I used Windows 8.0 on my laptop in 2012, but that was horrible... I only have 1 sample pc, so I can’t say that windows 8.0 is bad, but it ran super awful on that laptop. I was actually hating on windows 8 in 2013, because I didn’t like the metro ui (pretty ironic, because now that’s one of the main things I like about it). My main pc is now running Windows 8.1 with these specs: Ryzen 5 1600x 32GB DDR4 3 200mhz 500gb nvme ssd rtx 2060 (soon upgrading to rtx 3060 Ti) it is running well. Even though, that no official Windows 8.1 ryzen driver exists. This just shows, how good of an operating system windows 8.1 really was. My bloated os boots in 6 seconds. I have around 20 apps, that starts with the os. I had more bsod with windows 7 in 2 years than I had with Windows 8.1 in 6. Now let me get to something else. My mom has this office laptop that she uses for online shopping etc... it has pentium n4200 and it is more than slow on windows 10. How did you guys managed to get Windows 8.1 on that? Thanks
  7. I couldn't remove things from my desktop and documents folder for example. It was an isolated case though. Maybe reinstall would help?
  8. Thanks for the tip! I figured it out thanks to that. it was the file history or whatever it's called in vista. I enabled defender again and everything is working as it should. lemme get back to the trim though. Vista doesn't do it automatically? I mean I've never touched the trim option on w8.1 for like 2-3 years...
  9. Yeah, I know, but ram usage is not much different nowadays across operating systems. Just wanted to point out that even for internet browsing 8gb is minimum
  10. it wasn't, but it is now. No change, but there is one more process now "SVCHOST.EXE" is making I/O operations
  11. But I don't even know what process is using the ssd. it is just called "SYSTEM". this is not the first time I'm having this issue, but it is the first time on this laptop.
  12. I disabled the service. is that enough?
  13. nope. This is really a clean install. just drivers and mozilla firefox
  14. Well I did the trim with ssd tweaker pro (corsair utility refused to install, complained about not being w7 sp1) but nothing has changed. System is still doing weird I/O. I'm losing my mind over this.
  15. No problem. enjoy
  16. Thanks I'll give it a try
  17. where can I find trim? on Windows 8.1 it is under disk defrag, but I can't find it on vista
  18. I don't know what to do. My hdd activity light is flasing so rapidly and I have no idea why. Superfetch is turned off, indexing is turned off, defender is turned off, WU is turned off yet "SYSTEM" is making huge amounts of I/O operations. This is a clean install mind you with esu updates, no extended kernel yet installed. the laptop is also slow compared to windows 8.1. opening a browser takes around 6-11 seconds (Mozilla firefox 52) compared to almost instantly on 8.1. Any help is welcome EDIT: HDD defrag is also disabled
  19. Why? it is basically Vista sp3. I dont like everything they did in w7, but w7 was not a bad os. everything that is not Windows 10 is good in my book
  20. Well I randomly ran into this thread so why not to share my desktop too https://prnt.sc/w4n5am
  21. How? When I boot up my computer I use for work, immediately my ram usage is through the roof. https://prnt.sc/w4n0xu
  22. I had this exact issue in 2011, but service pack 1 fixed it. Do you have sp1 installed? Sorry I've misread the begining.
  23. Well battle.net is one of the biggest enemies of mine. all games including overwatch would otherwise work, but some really smart dick in blizzard said no Vista.
  24. Well that's true, but there are plenty of workarounds for Windows 8.1. Windows 7 does not work curiously enough. No missing api error, but photoshop will not open.
  25. Well you can still run minecraft even on windows 98 until microsoft kills off this old launcher. I hate to think that this is like 4th game I know that doesn’t work only because of game launcher and not the game itself..
