  1. I know. My host os is Windows 8.1 running vmware workstation 16. The vm tools installers just gave me an error that vista is not supported.
  2. Hi, I've installed clean vista on vmware workstation 16 but the driver installation failed complaining about vista being unsupported. That makes no sense since it is a virtual machine? How should I proceed?
  3. install WUFUC. it sometimes pops up after reboot, but don't worry about it. https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc
  4. I've seen google only mentioning windows 7. Windows 8.1 was not even mentioned. Important: We will continue to fully support Chrome on Windows 7® for a minimum of 24 months after Microsoft’s End of Life date, until at least January 15, 2022.
  5. Screenshare works, but audio does not. In browser it works and when you use app verifier and spoof windows 10, audio works too. It is intentional
  6. Well yes, I'm aware of that. But discord still list windows 7 as their os requirement. Since they still list windows 7 I think we should not add it yet. source: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/213491697-What-are-the-OS-system-requirements-for-Discord-
  7. So I temporarily downgraded my bios to 2017 one and vista installation gets little bit further. Now I get Windows is preparing to start for the first time (again rough translation) and after this finishes I get different bsod. this time it says this: Hal initialization failed
  8. I know. I actually asked them what has changed in 0.20 and they said that they changed their engine to implement dx11.1 (previously they used dx 11.0). But who knows what is really causing the issue.
  9. Now that you mentioned it, I upgraded my bios back in 2019 because it was incorrectly reporting cpu frequency on windows 8.1. The bios has a "feature" that lets you pick your operating system or if you don't it will automatically detect it. It says that windows 7 and 8.1 are no longer supported, but it works great on both operating systems. Maybe it broke vista though? also vista gets picked up as "Windows XP or other legacy microsoft product" this is a rough translation. Windows 7 is reporting as "Windows 6.1.7601 in uefi mode" and finally Windows 8.1 gets reported as "Windows 8.1"
  10. is this what you mean? https://prnt.sc/wd2wxr
  11. Hi, for the kicks and giggles I tried installing vista sp2 on my ryzen 5 1600. for some reason even on legacy boot and mbr format, vista fails to boot after first part of the setup. It ends up in this bsod: 0xc00021a (status access violation). Anyone here knows what that means exactly? also it is an hdd no ssd, pure sata hdd.
  12. Alright that's it! Please stop arguing about operating system that you're not even using! Before you post something, try the os in a vm with the extended kernel. Otherwise don't tell lies like @D.Draker already pointed out.
  13. I fully understand and I don't agree with him either, but my phone is constantly vibrating because of email notifications
  14. Guys please. this topic was not originally vista vs 7 and 8 so stop arguing. it is your choice what os are you willing to use. Thank you
  15. So first of all why are you hostile againts me? where did I accuse you of something? What exactly have I done to you??? Alright this was my last reply to any of your posts, but you seriously misunderstands me. [Moderator's note: Suggestions about illegal activity, even indirectly, are not permitted here]
  16. That’s not completely true. Firstly this is a 3 years old post and modding has been reverted to it’s original state after this backlash. Single player might work with a cracked copy, but not with steam or cd version. Even single player depends on online function such as social club to verify game ownership, stock market in single player is online based. I only play multiplayer with friends nowadays anyway so even cracked version of the game would not cut it (not to mention I don’t support game piracy)
  17. You don't need security updates to stay secure. Just do not download random s*** from the internet. Also having secondary laptop for internet banking is not a bad idea. Windows Vista/7/8 will be usable as long as software do support them.. (extended kernel is saving vista right now) and btw vista is getting server 2008 esu security patches I guess if you're the president of the usa then don't use windows xp?
  18. I agree with you on everything but this. I don't have anything against it (apart of onedrive). Also it starts right up on my pc. Anyways I could not agree more. Nice summary
  19. Yes, I’m sure. Even if you use the old launcher you cannot play on the newest patch. This prevents you from playing online. Trust me, I would love to say that it works
  20. Vista was, is and will be good os. Your problems had to be driver related. though I would not replace 8.1 with vista I don’t see why some could not. The extended kernel project is miracle and it is secure as much as windows 7 since you know, no updates too :p
  21. Vista does not support my gpu, my capture card, my nvme drive. Vista does not support games that I play, programs that I use. As an example I can list programs crucial for me: Glasswire, VMware workstation, teamviewer, photoshop, paint.net, visual studio and teams (since I both study and work at the same time). I play Beamng drive (does not work), Gta V (does not work), CS:GO (does work with latest steam client), Minecraft (soon will stop working), NFS heat (does not work).
  22. I DIdn't install any telemetry updates, also no compattelrunner.exe in my windows folder. I'm quite happy with how windows 8.1 looks, windows 7 look looks dated in my opinion (Don't kill me for that )
