  1. I too used it as my daily driver, but I use adobe photoshop for my work and Vista just could not serve me. Even if Vista is able to open new version of photoshop, the hardware is too weak for any real work. My daily driver is now: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 32gb ram DDR4-3200 RTX2060 Windows 8.1 Pro
  2. I got the laptop in august 2018 as refurbished one. I bought it just for Vista though
  3. it is doable, but super hardcore. Up to intel 8th gen or any amd ryzen. With intel you need to provide sata driver for windows 8 install. Amd is easier. https://www.win-raid.com/t5648f52-Solution-Win-Win-x-Ryzen-APU-Video-driver-Update-Vulkan-OpenCL-API-support.html
  4. Don’t know about 4.8, but 4.7.2 gave me no issues. But to be honest, apart from share x and handbrake, I don’t use many of .net apps. Does that mean, that 4.8 even with extended kernel is sort of useless on vista?
  5. I cannot care less about Microsoft’s statement. If you rely on official support, then Vista is almost dead in modern world. Thanks to @win32 and his extended kernel, Vista is more than usable nowadays. My point is, that it is a long time, since someone here on msfn (sorry forgot who it was) discovered, how to install .net 4.6.2 and up. Nobody reported any issues. My point is, that you’re the first one, I don’t have to proof something what you can just look up here on msfn. Oh and btw in 2019 I used Vista exclusively as my main os for 3 whole months. with .net 4.7.2. You should definitely try newer .net than 4.5 (Some games do actually require it too, but I only heard about unity games).
  6. Handbrake and musicbee do require it. Anyways why wouldn't you use the newest possible version? it is just future proofing. Edit: I forgot sharex I would like to see some proof. Nobody here have had mentioned it. I have experienced a ton of issues with vista, but never with .net
  7. I installed .net 4.6.1 on multiple machines without issues. 4.7.2 works also without any issues. Maybe this was isolated issue?
  8. Cinebench r23 "only supports" Windows 10. I can't get the installer to extract just so I can try if it will run on Windows 8.1 or not. Can someone try? I hate these kinds of blocks https://prnt.sc/vktz0f - the error on this screen translates to "An error has occurred. This software can only run on Windows 10 64bit or newer" EDIT: I have found extracted version of it. It works and has no os block. Thankfully
  9. Even if I wanted to play Windows 10 only game, I would not switch my 8.1 for it. I would create dualboot.
  10. Yeah that happened to me too. I think You should dualboot Windows 7 for now. I know it sucks, but it is the only option.
  11. I have october updates, and printing seems to work okay with office 2019, printing from web etc..
  12. I thought you can only address 3.5gb of ram on 32bit oses?
  13. My vista boots in like 20 seconds with extended kernel and all updates. Windows 7 takes about 25 seconds. Windows 8.1 with fast boot enabled around 6-8 seconds.
  14. I use Vista on my Dell latitude e6330 with these specs: Intel Core I5-3340M 8gb ram 480gb ssd from corsair Intel hd graphics I use vista just because of nostalgia. I used it as my main os since 2008-2013. Before I start with my complaints I really need to clarify, that I love Vista so much, but there are things that are just straight up bad. Vista’s disk trashing is first and the most annoying thing on the planet. Vista seems to access the disk and make unnecessary i/o operations. I have no idea what is it doing (Windows Update is turned off as well system protection, background programs). Next annoying thing is delay after boot up. After welcome screen, I have to wait another 30-40 seconds on ssd mind you, just so I can open web browser. In that 30-40 second time window, Disk is not being accessed nor any program is doing anything. I have installed vista countless times and this is an issue. And finally fps in direct x 9/11. Windows 7/8.1 are always better in gaming by around 10%. Yeah that is probably lack of optimization for Vista, but still it is an issue. Ram usage on vista is higher on clean install than on 8.1. I’m surprised that windows 7/8.1 were slower on your pc. Almost every computer I’ve tried was just as fast or faster in some instances on newer os. Like I said in the beginning, I love Vista, I will still use it and enjoy it, but it can be better.
  15. Yeah I already tried everything, even manually adding these missing files, but unfortunately it does not work. BEX64 error appears.
  16. Well back in 2013 I absolutely hated that os. It was weird for me at the time. Windows 8.1 improved the metro ui, added start button and for me at least improved my pc performance (especially ssd io). Telemetry can be removed, so that’s why I asked that very question. I absolutely don’t want to make anyone angry or anything, just being curious.
  17. I seriously do not understand why they f****** did this. Just why?? I hate modern software companies nowadays. Everything is a f****** expensive subscription, new operating systems are pieces of junk trying to spy on you whilst looking ugly. Back to my point, why would virtualization software check if I had patched my uxtheme to sideload a new theme for example? Unbelievable! Their explanation:
  18. you made it with nativefier (I don’ know precisely how it is written) right? Because I did it too and screen share is a no go. I have to use web version instead.
  19. Are you using extended kernel by any chance?
  20. Because until @win32 will implement changes to 32bit kernel32 there is no way how to play roblox. Maybe virtualization? or dualboot? just don’t use Windows 10
  21. Still no solution. I only got one game to “launch” but then it crashes. I’m starting to lose all hope..
  22. I have nothing against it, but for my use it is far from ideal. Also I might be the only one who hates the "90's" look
  23. Yeah, but I miss screensharing. Thankfully web version does offer that
