  1. Well, I don't know what to say. It's working fine now. What happened... I don't know. I was going to make a small divx video to better represent the problem and possibly post it here. While doing so; I enabled/disabled hidden and system several times, then switched to Windows Classic theme then back to my modified theme and it's working flawlessly now. I'd post the video, but it's over 400mb. Divx won't convert it, stating that the origianl video source is an invalid codec <shrug> Oh well, thanks for the help.
  2. Well, I can safely say it's not the UI. The UI I have runs on 3 other workstations, so I have eliminated that issue. Again the problem just came up a couple weeks ago. I have no shell modifications. I've compared the desktop.ini file with a working system and it's ok. At least I think it is... I never seen anything within the desktop.ini file in root or Windows\System. Bagsmru/BagMRU are saved folder settings, but doesn't disable Views if the cache becomes full. The system just discards older settings and replaces them with new. Even a corrupt bagsmru/bagmru shouldn't disable the 'View' function. From what I see in tweakui I don't have the ability to reset folder settings at least ver2.10 doesn't. However, this is what I did... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer (Delete string: 'Shellstate') HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState (Delete string: 'Settings') The following are what I delete every six months or so: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamsMRU HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags
  3. Nope. Though when I enable Hidden and System Files, Views are again activated for Root, Windows, System and System32. If I disable Hidden and System Files, Root, Windows, System and System32 directories no longer allow displaying Views.
  4. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Explorer Views Disabled on the toolbar and also within the context menu. I just noticed this about a week ago and now just looking to fix it. Works fine within "My Computer" and any drive besides C: Toolbar Views disabled (Greyed Out)... Only in the C drive. If I move to E, G, F... Views work fine. Context menu also disabled... Views do not scroll open. This is strange... registry corrupted? Can't find anything on google regarding it. However, found something about some unregistered services, but re-registering services did not resolve the problem.
  5. Is there any known tweak to allow multiple instances of Microsofts Media Player 11?
  6. Is it possible to run multiple instances of Windows Media player 11 and how would I enable such option?
  7. Sorry, but plenty of specific information provided. Besides, a batch file is ideal for what I need it for. If you want it in programming move it there.
  8. I'm looking for a script or some direction on creating a batch file, which will search the entire registry for several variables (key, string, binary, dword... etc) then delete them if exist.
  9. It's an issue with 'Automatic Updates' utility. Microsoft is aware of this and working on resolving the issue. There is also a registry fix to reregister a few system components. I'll post the fix when I locate it on my file server.
  10. Besides the fixes suggested here. The best way to resolve this if a fixmbr does not resolve it: 1. Boot into repair mode on the XP cd. 2. CD to the cd drive 3. navigate to the i386 dir 4. cd_drive:\>expand ntdlr.dl_ 5. reboot...
  11. Small list for ya's... http://www.spywareguide.com/product_list_full.php http://www.lafn.org/webconnect/mentor/startup/PENINDEX.HTM Try these too. 12. If the school admins are clever enough and know how to setup the network (CORRECTLY); Regardless of what you do your attempts to access (bypass) the network are logged. Not too hard to setup SNMP on the routers and monitor traffic per segment, IP, User. Don't be too sure of yourself.
  13. Possible the net admins know you're attempting to bypass their security. Therefore restricting your account.
  14. You may also want to configure your machines using the 'Alternate Configuration' method. Alternate Configuration (when implemented) replaces the 'default' Windows configuration IP 192.168.x.x; IF no DHCP server is found.
  15. Nice find Digi. Though I don't use these types and stick with sygate and tcpviewpro to explicitly deny/allow applications. This app seems to be fairly basic but, may do the trick for novice users.
  16. fiz has a good solution. Works great. However, prior solution ended with Vista recognize the drives BUT shown the drives having no data on them (displaying it as a format), over 200gigs, booting into XP reads just fine. Haven't played with it much to figure out what needs to be done to resolve the issue. forgot to add this is RTM
  17. You also forgot one major point. If upgrading from XP to Vista; Is your Software Application compatible.
  18. Don't Blame Mr Billie Gates... If you're looking to blame anyone; blame Corporate America and capitalists. Besides, have you ever thought how much money you can make just by supporting an OS? Apparently Not. Would you work for free?
  19. Ok, so I was a bit bored this weekend and decided to setup Windows 2003 Server RC2 and install Windows Media Services module. I'm able to stream local media on the server, but unable to figure out how to stream media which is stored on a network storage medium. What i've done so far is mapped the drive and Windows Media Services does not recognize that network location and only displays A, C, and D. Any suggestions?
  20. To make a long subject short... "Grow up and move on with life!"
  21. I thought the drivers were on the image... otherwise try installing them from system32/drivers. Though, as crahak said, just buy a cheap hub and network your pc's.
  22. Boy, oh boy... where have people begun to think a RC1 is ready for any games. Let alone expect any game, for a matter of fact, run on a system that was built upon the 2003 server architecture. Wait until the final product has been release or when your favorite Windows ME games are ported over.
  23. epic

    Vista 5728

Quit complaining. Besides, the build number is not a literal digit. Cough... downloadable to MSDN / TechNet members
  24. sounds like a winsock issue then. What you need to do is uninstall the drivers reboot and do not install the drivers supplied by vista.. find the correct drivers.
  25. The only option then is to check the hosts file and verify you only have the loopback inserted. Try and ping the addresses and see if you can obtain a response from the sites. Edit: Forgot you said you can access the sites fine on a non vista system.
