  1. As far as installing, the cab folder files can be edited to the upgraded files. If another operating system is in use on the machine then after the first install run the rLoew vxd's can be added from that other OS, I believe it should then work but I have not done so.
  2. The external 1TB could have uneven usage across the volume and thus there may be some areas of media that cannot be written to. If so it might be fixable but evolves a lot of correspondence talking about it. So what I would suggest is to install Paragon Partition Manager 6 and see if the drive is accessible without IO errors on your machine. With many files on the 1TB then it will take longer for explorer to open and display contents. Time taken will be also proportional to the machine's effective USB2 speed to that drive. With Paragon Partition Manager there is Partition Explorer which enables exporting of files. Remember if the 1TB is of GPT formation then it will not be accessible. Latest Paragon has a free non-commercial use software which will convert disks From MBR to GPT.
  3. It is audio volume system tray slider control.
  4. Mstask.exe start in the registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices] "SchedulingAgent"="mstask.exe" PCHealth has got nothing to do with MStask I estimate. Why do you need a desktop file? Control Panel should have Scheduled Tasks. You need to register MStask.dll and most likely Shell32.dll if it will register for you. Remove everything in the Tasks folder might help. It should only be populated when a task is implemented. MStask is not self registering so here is registry REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}] @="Scheduled Tasks" "InfoTip"="Schedules computer tasks to run automatically." [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\mstask.dll,-100" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}\InProcServer32] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\mstask.dll" "ThreadingModel"="Both" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}\ShellFolder] "Attributes"=hex:00,00,00,21 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}\shellex] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}\shellex\ExtShellFolderViews] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}\shellex\ExtShellFolderViews\{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}] "PersistMoniker"="file://%webdir%\\schedule.htt" If WINDOWS is not your windows folder then you need to change this text in the Reg file to match your windows folder name. This is the Classes section, it should be copied to the system section automatically. If you have not got schedule.htt in your windows\web folder then you need to register Webvw.dll.
  5. Are most system files original. Original Setupapi is the best. There are a few options perhaps, if you want to take it back to nearly original then there should be a system.ist in the root directory. You can swap out system.dat with system.ist then the whole system will be then re-install. You need to do this externally to the OS though. Do not do a system restore in safe mode it will no work properly but you could make a new cab file with system.ist in it as system.dat and then use system restore while fully into the operating system. Firstly though there is PCHealth.inf I would try re-installing this inf but I am not experienced in this. If the inf does not install then looking at what it is trying to do might help. Mstask.exe should be running. You need to use Starter or Msinfo to see 16 bit modules that are loaded. MStask is not 16bit. Looking into the PCHealth inf myself it seems it uses vxdmon.vxd which is inside vmm32.vxd. To install the inf you could try the stub path line or try RUNDLL32.EXE %11%\ADVPACK.DLL,LaunchINFSection %17%\PCHealth.inf . I did not try either. It uses WBEM also.
  6. Why not try stepping up gradually starting with FF4. CometBird I found to be better, slimmer with less API function incompatibility errors with native 98SE. All you need to do is extract the install executable and copy the core folder to a folder of your choose and rename it CometBird for example. Then start CometBird.exe do a little surfing, not much, you do not want it to freeze, then exit. Then restart your machine. Do this till you get up to CometBird 9 and use the greprefs.js on page 8 in this topic. Retrozilla TLS update files can be used with the TLS1.3 ciphers listed in the greprefs.js.
  7. Dave, you need to follow instructions on this topic https://msfn.org/board/topic/181424-firefox-24-52-for-me-and-98/#comments carefully. I have the freezing problem and so does Loblo and it seems you do too. I believe if you go above FF9 then you will experience the freezing. I have not tested for freezing of late though with the later browsers (Google can change). At one point I needed to use a different search engine other than Google as Google would freeze the browsers. Not the case anymore for me.
  8. The spinner rotating means the page is still downloading, If you try a web page that has no ads changing say MSN news, the spinner stops is that correct? If it is correct then check if it the freeze happens only on a secure web site. I got my K-Meleon 74 Ryzen machine to work. It seems some module needs Win2K setting. Prior to this on BASENOHEAP it did not start at all. The other machine AMD FX4170 is the one that did not display text because after revisiting to find out the difference I found I had explorer on legacy base enhancements and KM74 in follower mode. The difference was that explorer was in BASENOHEAP on the Ryzen. Freezing can occur even when navigating through a network drive into deeper and deeper directories. I put it down to the NIC itself. It got better with successfully ending explorer navigation of the network drive without interrupting explorer and restarting machine. I have installed 64 bit drivers to this old AN983B NIC in the Ryzen and operating not good at first seemed to be extraordinarily slow but good now. I know my machine is not perfect as going into WinME safe mode there is some graphic anomaly but it is a bit better. While using ApiLogging the log continuously updates when no mouse movement or web page is altered. KM74 does not exit sweetly according to KM on restarting KM but everything is timing sensitive with my Ryzen PC, for example my PotPlayer version I use in WinME will not exit without triggering an exit error on Win10. EDIT this example is not due to Ryzen computer but is an operating system phenomenon that starts with Win8.1. KM74 does not exit sweetly on FX4170 machine also.
  9. My bad, I do not know how this happened but rename DebugWindow.exe to ApiLog.exe and place ApiLog.exe and ApiHook.dll in the system folder or other mapped folder and the rest of instructions are correct. I have checked Trend Micro with CometBird 8 and Wyzo and CometBird 9. They all are able to download from Trend Micro but Wyzo being FF3.6 does not show the download arrow nor More Details field selection. To download with Wyzo I moved the mouse to the download position and the mouse changed color as I had this set up for link select. I would try and step up away from FF3.6 as it will not play GIFs even. The picture is of CometBird 8. If you can follow my directions on page 8 here 2nd post down for the greprefs.zip then it should work out better. You see if the greprefs.js in OMNI.jar does not have the new ciphers listed then even with the new TLS2 files the browser will not post the new ciphers as available to the web site. I explained a bit more further down on page 8 about greprefs. If you are very cautious then you can edit just the cipher part yourself but I tested it on HowsMySSL as explained here back on page 12 but this is out of date and the greprefs has been tested again with the more recent upload. At first there might be a handshake to a web site where there is no cypher overlap response but trying again will fix this in the majority of cases.
  10. Definitely more essential files that were found here in this topic but now the links are not correct. A correctly chosen Roytam1 browser would contain compatible files. I know the Classilla browser works and the bookmarks work. It is called Pheonix and is old but has new TLS2 files. It uses Msvcrt instead of Msvcr71 but will not contain FF3.6 compatible files. Retrozilla files will work with FF3.6 but I may have had to mix it up a bit with some other browser files to get it to work. I have included some of the files in use in HTM format so it will display in your browser. See the Basic ECC files, these are the ones to update and any with version 3.21.4. I am not sure though if this is the latest Roytam1's version but it must be close. No I would not do that because I don't think it will work but worth a try. Wyzo.htm
  11. Swapping JS3250 did not change anything for me. Dave H said it did not work in 98SE and WinXP for him. I get a stack overflow in kernel32 at BFF64277. BFF64000 is the start address for Kernel32. I have uploaded the Fault Log for DW profiling and there is no Fault Log produced without profiling. I have also uploaded the KernelEx Apilog. My K-Meleon74 does not produce any text but displays pictures OK. It is like VLC3 when I increase the font enlargement too far. I just get straight lines like a continuous underscore where the text should be. If Wyzo is used or any other FF vs up to 8, the new files for TLS2 that Roytam1 sent in here on page 12 for FF8 can be used. Just check that everything works out with DW. Select Enable API logging then you open Apilog and just run the program you selected to log. The KernelEx log will then be displayed in the APIlog.exe window. You need to download the APIhook from first page of KernelEx Core Updates https://msfn.org/board/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=39308 Rename ApiMon.exe to ApiLog.exe and place both files in a mapped location like the System folder. FF3.6crt71.zip
  12. I would try profiling it with Depends, that might show up the issue. I have my FF3.6 and FF9 executable set to Base and XUL plus XPCOM on NT4 setting. The individual FF upgraded files like Freebl3 I have in follower mode so they will be theoretically Base as they were not loaded prior to loading FF. I am operating KernelEx enabled and I have set disabled Shell32, USP10, WS2_32, WS2help, Wsock32, Winspool.drv, Winmm, Version, User32, Tapi32, Rpcrt4, Rnr20, Rasapi32, Ole32, Ntdll, Mswsock, Msvfw32, Mspwl32, Msimg32, Mpr, Kernel32, Iphlpapi, Imm32, Icmp, Gdi32, Ctras, ComDlg32, Comctl32, Advapi32 and IE6 module Shlwapi. Now I may have got carried away with disabling modules when KernelEx got more complex and all may not be necessary at all but disabling some of the big ones like Shlwapi and Shell32 may speed up the system some what. The CRT modules in use are set all to BaseNoheap which includes (MozJS.dll - not applicable to FF3.6 though.); thus they are using using KEX STD heap settings. Try Wyzo browser it is FF3.6 but a little better in that it will not share the same Application Data with other FF versions.
  13. Do not forget that restricting vcache to 8MB will not allow all programs to work so if an error occurs that says that it is not working due to restrictions placed on this machine, it will be because of lack of available vcache. Maximum Cache size should be at least 32MB as 16MB is not enough from using that amount as done by accidental experience.
  14. This seems the operative statement. I have had no trouble at all with real machines. Clean clear sound is what I have experienced on all machines. What is different with ME to that of Win7 or 10 etcetera is that a green LED flashes when sound is outputting where as a red LED flashes with win7 or 10. Some cards have a red LED some have a Green. If sound is stuttery it will most likely be from other causes like full CPU usage from lack of reproducible frame-rate from an old video card at high resolutions while playing video as an example, or bad USB throughput but this has to be bad but it is possible with older hardware which has been worn out. Typical example here could be a front panel card reader that has been connected to a USB port but has not been used much. I had been given this machine and that USB port was not functioning although WinME did get it listed as functioning but throughput was really bad and not sure if it would get better. Other OSes listed port as faulty. As far as rendering is concerned PCM is the default output for direct audio in KMP and PotPlayer. There is also an option for LPCM output which I have used also with the USB device. I use 32bit (float) for the PCM.
  15. As you selected to shortcut the original and not to copy the original, the original file was edited. Finding files that were deleted but not overwritten would not be the scenario to pursue in this case.
  16. Contrary to Scanreg.ini information suggesting backup files can have a comma between them, it did not work. So to keep the backup registry and KernelEx in sync I use these 4 lines of text for backing up the Kernelex INI files where BackupDirectory=10,SYSBCKUP is the original registry backup line and my Kstub names are KSTUB01.INI, KSTUB823.INI and KSTUB03.INI and it works. BackupDirectory=10,SYSBCKUP Files=10,KERNELEX\CORE.INI Files=10,KERNELEX\KSTUB01.INI Files=10,KERNELEX\KSTUB823.INI Files=10,KERNELEX\KSTUB03.INI
  17. There needs to be a check made to see if the subscriptions are working. While I have been a member there has been no deductions taken from my PayPal account or from earlier; my bank account. I have been a Silver then Gold supporter but no transactions have been made.

Indeed.  If there's going to be recognition of donations, they really need to be kept up here. (I kicked a sum of money here about 5 months ago...)

  18. The patches would not have any effect until the driver is installed and without vcache there is no drivers. I now have tried Ryzen MSI Gaming Plus B350 and it installs the system devices great but there is no Sata driver operating and is operating from the BIOS like it does in safe mode.
  19. I am using Ryzen now and the CPU is susceptible to software anomalies and I have the ME system operating good and stable. When CORE.ini configuration names are changed the 4.5.2 names still work as they were before the new names are updated in the registry. This is possibly because the 4.5.2 kexbasen and kexbases modules are wrapped with the new kexbases kexbasen API definitions. MSVCRT needs BASE/ME kexbases and kexbasen API settings in the core.ini for Miro Video Converter and HD Video Converter Factory 13 of which latest KernelEx allows. MIN loads kstubs even though the contents= does not include kstubs. =0 at the end of core APIs can be removed from a non inherited core.ini but not when a core.ini with many inheritances is used as functioning altered for me. Kstub824 will not load APIs of any CRT modules. I got around this problem by using kstub823 as well as kstub824. Only one instance of kstub823 can be used because the related ini must be named kstub823.ini but kstub823.dll can be named different to match the core.ini. If using kstub823 the redirection of APIs cannot be shortened, it must be like this within the quotations "InitSecurityInterfaceA=>128SC:InitSecurityInterfaceA". Jumper have you an answer to the 4.5.2 anomaly of RtlDeleteCriticalSection ; RtlEnterCriticalSection ; RtlInializeCriticalSection ; & RtlLeaveCriticalSection not working? CORE_7.zip
  20. Dll forwarding was not implemented in win98 but the operating system requirements were dropped in the later OS's. For example you can use Control.exe from Win10 KernelEx disabled. 10240 is fully functional with the internal icon displayed.
  21. If you are referring to my Core_6.ini where you see one definition module in each Kstub. This was done to stretch out the number of plugins. I had 20 DLLs having redirected function calls. If this means that you have made up 3 Kstub, inis then you also need three matching Kstub824.dlls renamed to suit the ini names. Your contents= does not show this though. If you exceed the character number limit and then open Ktree there will be a blank window showing nothing for Ktree and KernelEx will not be working. So when you then open a new program requiring KernelEx, the program will not work.
  22. The operating system will need to adjust to the changes. I found that jumping ahead with too many new plugins after 12 meant that I had slight issues which I have encountered before with this build and it is associated with the registry which is operating in the RAM along with all other active modules. My comments should be respected and other members also. Why do you not believe me? Try to get the programs I have shown in the pictures to work without KernelEx. First one is PotPlayer which is using Flash.ocx of which 10 is inadequate and will stall program. Flash is not essential though. There are other KernelEx requirements for PotPlayer and last post shows WinMerge 2.14 which needs Msvcr90 and it is a case of keeping the upload file size to a minimum. What more proof do you want? Ktree11 works in Safe Mode but if after making changes to CORE.ini or Kstubs and there are mistakes or what ever the reason that Ktree does not work afterwards then forget about rebooting as KernelEx will not work after reboot. Schwups can you back this statement up by exceeding the Kstub character limit and then open Ktree. No, you are joking right?
  23. I have gone up to 22 and OS is still OK. I think that is a fair test for now, why break it? My advice for others who are willing to try this is to increase number of plugins slowly for the registry's sake. I have used the most challenging build for this experiment. What have I posted recently that you have issues with. You should not be reserved about it because I do not know what the misinformation is. Core_6.zip
  24. Tested; my system will not run without KernelEx. If Kernelex is not running then Ktree does not run either. You cannot use dummy plugins it will stop KernelEx.
  25. It depends what you mean by that. Usually KernelEx stops completely if a criteria is exceeded like the 17000 characters per ini. If KernelEx is not working then Ktree does not work either. That I have tested multiple times and is advisable before a reboot to at check if Ktree works after making CORE.ini or Kstub changes. I have tested 5 plugins and KernelEx works for sure. I have the log files for both kstub824 and kstub825. So the 5 plugins are Std, Kexbases, Kexbasen, Kstub824, and Kstub825. Unless Std is not a plugin then I will have to shift more definitions to the third Kstub. I have not been working on the WinME/KernelEx much of late.
