  1. I wonder if setting your system clock one year early would work!
  2. I have 5.9.3861 on my FTP (August 5, 2005). Can you let me know if you still receive the message on your platform with that version? http://sdfox7.com/win98/aim59.exe I also have some old 1.x version designed for 16-bit Windows 3.1, if you're interested: http://sdfox7.com/win31/AIM10.EXE
  3. BBQ You'll still be able to access them via the Internet Archive (aka WayBack Machine) once they go dead. Just paste any of those links into http://archive.org.
  4. Wait a minute. Where are all the KernelEx threads that were here in the last couple of weeks? What happened and what did I miss? I have a feeling that the KEX project involved redistributing Windows files (.dlls, etc), which is not permitted. Distributing Windows operating system code or components within an unofficial package is considered copyright infringement.
  5. Are you sure that you are downloading the archived version? If you are just downloading http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/7/2/b72c48b9-a1f8-49fc-9f75-71af93ec90b0/Webfldrs-KB892211-ENU.exe you will be served directly from Microsoft's server, which likely only serves XP-compatible version. Can you try the http://web.archive.org/web/20051104113959/http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/7/2/b72c48b9-a1f8-49fc-9f75-71af93ec90b0/Webfldrs-KB892211-ENU.exe and see if that works on Windows 98? If it still doesn't work then I would say that Microsoft FAILED to verify the function on Windows 98 before posting the system requirements.
  6. Please see my post here to get the service packs for 2000/XP.
  7. Unfortunately, because -X- has a robots file, the page cannot be archived. The robots file would need to be removed in order to allow the Internet Archive to crawl. For reasons unrelated to this thread, I think using a robots file is unnecessary; there is a lot of great historical information that can be gleaned from the Internet Archive. Kids growing up in the future can access old pages to read the CBS News on 9/11 or the 2008 financial crisis from CNN. We are doing them a disservice when we use intentional techniques (such as using a robots file) to obfuscate history.
  8. https://web.archive.org/web/20121231004711/http://www.microsoft.com/it-it/download/details.aspx?id=4127 CTRL-F ".exe" TWICE to find the direct download link, then paste that into the Internet Archive Direct download: https://web.archive.org/web/20121231004711/http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/3/9/4399958A-CAE3-48CF-9FC3-2A36DAAB3A5E/w2ksp4_it.exe
  9. The links on my http://sdfox7.com/win2ksp.htm link directly to Microsoft's server. I also have the packages directly in my /2000 folder. Once the links go down, I will edit the page to direct to the Internet Archive. I may consider doing it sooner than that.
  10. Tommy and SubMix8 If you are interested, I created pages that auto-redirect to the archived downloads. People are going to start looking for the original page and then not find it. Because of this, I created a page and programmed it in FrontPage, with a Custom System Variable to redirect to the archived version in 3 seconds. [Offtopic Comment]You have got to love loopholes! If you'd like to try it out, it's here. It took me all of 5 minutes to do this. I titled them to resemble the title of the original page, so that when someone web searches for Windows 2000 and XP SP2 or SP3, mine will be one of the first to appear: Download Details: Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers Download Details: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers Download Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/2000sp1.htm Download Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/2000sp2.htm Download Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/2000sp3.htm Download Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/2000sp4.htm Download Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Security Roll Up Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/2000srp.htm Download Windows XP Service Pack 1 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/xpsp1.htm Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/xpsp2.htm Download Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/xpsp3.htm Download Internet Explorer 7 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/ie7.htm Download Internet Explorer 8 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center: http://sdfox7.com/ie8.htm
  11. The oldest driver still available on D-Link's FTP is here: ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za/D-LinkFTP/products/Wireless/DWL120/Driver/dwl120_driver_225_02.zip Other resources for the DWL-120 are here: ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za/D-LinkFTP/products/Wireless/DWL120/ I don't know how much luck you'll have with USB under Windows 95 with this adapter, but the manual is here: ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za/D-LinkFTP/products/Wireless/DWL120/Manual/DWL-120_manual_07062005.zip Here is some info getting USB under Windows 95: http://toastytech.com/files/cruzerwin95.html http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172402-xusbsupp-extended-usb-supplement-for-windows-95-osr2/
  12. I have never used Windows 10, but I do see a parallel between recent Windows versions and my government: as every year goes by, we give up even more choice and individuality. The questionable privacy policies of Windows 10 offset any benefit of receiving a "free" product. In my opinion telemetry is a serious risk and concern in today's age. If Microsoft is hacked, those results on their servers could expose corporate trade secrets and classified government information.
  13. Sounds interesting. I would be interested in archiving this in my /xp directory. Apparently your file is password-protected?
  14. I agree that is a great resource; my concern is that using direct Microsoft links will fail in the future. This is why it is so important to utilize the WayBack Machine when pointing people to unsupported software; people accessing these threads in the future will at some point be unable to access these downloads with the Microsoft links.
  15. You never named the model of your laptop, but going by the speed and ToriSan drive, I'm guessing you have the CPi A Latitude. The drivers are here if you need them in the future (Just toggle to the correct OS): http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-cpi/drivers
  16. Did you try here? Dencorso I did. The problem with that link is that it only downloads an 800KB stub. I searched the ends of the internet and have not found a full installer anywhere else. I know from past experience that once you download the stub, it will connect to Google's servers and download the current full installer-- which is not compatible with SSE processors and will fail to run.
  17. An update to an old post, but relevant for people with SSE (non-SSE2) processors: The link in the above post no longer works. The closest you will get is to download an archived version of Chromium 34.0.1847.0. I have not come across build 34.0.1847.137 anywhere. You can access it here: http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-continuous/index.html?prefix=Win/251854/ Download the mini_installer.exe
  18. I encourage you all to use and take advantage of the Internet Archive (WayBack Machine) to download Microsoft software. The IA is a 501©(3) non profit organization in the United States, and has been archiving the web since 1996. It became officially recognized as a library by the State of California in 2007. This ensures that we are using links that will NOT "mysteriously disappear" in the future. Also, questionable sources could lead to disastrous results. If you have the original Italian links, you can paste them in the Internet Archive. I have provided English below. Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1): https://web.archive.org/web/20001018165700/http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/SP/SP1/NT5/EN-US/sp1network.exe Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2): https://web.archive.org/web/20030918215610/http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/sp/sp2/nt5/en-us/w2ksp2.exe Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3): https://web.archive.org/web/20050813104452/http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/SP/SP3/NT5/EN-US/w2ksp3.exe Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4): https://web.archive.org/web/20051022095019/http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/6/a/e6a04295-d2a8-40d0-a0c5-241bfecd095e/w2ksp4_en.exe Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Security Roll up (SRP): https://web.archive.org/web/20060320020710/http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/7/b/27b1d1a3-0299-4336-b88a-22b9f09817e2/Windows2000-KB891861-v2-x86-ENU.EXE Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1): https://web.archive.org/web/20020911143832/http://premierdownload.microsoft.com/download/whistler/SP/SP1/WXP/en-us/xpsp1_en_x86.exe Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2): https://web.archive.org/web/20050618161252/http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/5/165b076b-aaa9-443d-84f0-73cf11fdcdf8/WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe Archived: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers Direct Download: https://web.archive.org/web/20140119014510/http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/3/0/d30e32d8-418a-469d-b600-f32ce3edf42d/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe Internet Explorer 7 if you need it: Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP 32-bit Direct Download: https://web.archive.org/web/20130509183828/http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/8/8/38889dc1-848c-4bf2-8335-86c573ad86d9/IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe Internet Explorer 8 if you need it: Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP 32-bit Direct Download: https://web.archive.org/web/20130510043925/http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/C/0/CC0BD555-33DD-411E-936B-73AC6F95AE11/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe
  19. I think Adobe substantially modified the installer architecture of Adobe Flash Player 20. Double-clicking on this version's installer does not do anything on XP SP2; a minimum of SP3 is required. Being that there is no SP3 for 64-bit users, it would leave those users out in the cold, and 19.0.0.245 for Firefox/Opera or Internet Explorer is the final version for them. The only way to use Flash 20 on XP SP2 is to run Chrome with its embedded PepperFlash.
  20. Google does NOT work on IE8 under XP x64 for some reason, while it does work for others under XP x86. I noticed this during a separate issue I was working on. Very strange and annoying. This is due to the fact that many websites including https://google.com require a SHA 256 compatible browser. As you may recall, the POODLE SSL3 vulnerability broke last year, and many websites rushed to update their servers from SHA 1 to SHA 2. SHA 256 compatibility was introduced in XP Service Pack 3, which was never released for x64. So these websites will remain broken on XP SP2 x64. The only way to access these sites on the operating system is to use a browser like Firefox or Chrome where the SHA 256 is dependent on the browser, NOT the OS. However, Internet Explorer is dependent at the OS level, and XP pre-SP3 does not support SHA 256. This is also why you cannot access Google on Windows 98/2000 in Internet Explorer 6.0, unless you are using IE 5.5 (ironically SSL 2.0 still works!) or TLS enabled instead or you use an alternate browser such as Firefox. You can find additional information here: https://support.globalsign.com/customer/portal/articles/1499561-sha-256-compatibility
  21. When opening Office 97-2003 files in Microsoft Office ≥Office 2007, you should see a Compatibility Mode title when the file opens. This is normal. All versions of Office from 2007 on are backward compatible and should be able to open Office 97-2003 files. If you cannot open these files in Office 365, you have a problem.
  22. Adobe Reader is an interesting anomaly. Adobe dropped "support" for Vista at version 10 ("X"), and if you go to the download page, 10 is the only version being served for Vista users. Yet, nothing prevents the version 11 ("XI") installer from functioning on Vista. On the other hand, Adobe Reader 11 (XI) is completely supported on Windows XP, right up through the current 11.0.08.
  23. I think it is funny how the PaleMoon website complains that "We simply do not have the manpower or resources to continue updating and maintaining multiple different versions of the same product." http://www.palemoon.org/PM_end_of_WinXP_support.shtml Yes, it's not like they could simply build ONE installer that works on all OS versions from XP SP2 through Windows 10, as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, have done for years.
  24. Many times FileHippo will redirect you to the current version, even though it says it's the previous one. I archived the 32-bit and 64-bit installers for MSE 4.4.304 in 2014. You can find them here: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/mse/x86/MSEInstall.exe They are also always available via the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, just pick the date you want: 32-bit: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/ENUS/x86/MSEInstall.exe 64-bit: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/ENUS/amd64/MSEInstall.exe
  25. Sounds like it could possible be a conflict of some kind, IRQ? Are you using the official HiroInc drivers? http://www.hiroinc.com/drivers/EOL/H50069%20H50169%20H50170/Windows_All.zip
