  1. how can you update what?
  2. that is how it works, the more memory you have the more it will use. the OS wants to use as much as it can so do not worry at all, this is normal.
  3. leave it as it is. you're welcome
  4. you don't need proof of purchase, at least i don't think you do. http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp go there and type in the needed info.
  5. hmm, odd. but hey, at least it works now. there may be issues with some piece of hardware still.. but i have no idea what is wrong. so just hope that it doesn't go down again.
  6. if it freezes during copying files then i cant see it being a compatibility issue, since it's not actually trying to install something at that time, such as drivers. i find it very odd the 98 will install though. go into the bios and let us know what your temps for the system are. also, run memtest, as puntomx said, there may be an issue with the ram.
  7. you have to keep in mind that it can be difficult for air to effectively cool the components on the motherboard. you cannot simply say no, that blowing air directly onto the heatsink will not cool it down. it is possible that the motherboard is reading the wrong value, meaning a bad sensor, it happens. to verify this use a multimeter. one thing you can try though it putting some AS5 or similar thermal paste on there instead of the stock junk.
  8. well try covering it in tape then and hope it helps. auzentech makes some of the best cards in the industry and there really should not be issues with them.
  9. does it freeze at the same spot every time? if so, what does it say it's trying to install at that time?
  10. heh, I am mad that legacy devices are still included with new computers. Redhatcc - see anything interesting once you opened one of those bad boys up?
  11. Dean Martin's All-Time Greatest Hits
  12. yep, the beta was that date
  13. the nas in itself is great, no doubt about that. but price is something that you also have to factor in. if you want to buy and not build then i believe that you made the right choice.
  14. perhaps it is installed but not detected in the modem, otherwise i am as confused as you are. maybe pull the modem out of one of the laptops if that is at all possible and then compare the device manager.
  15. you claim airflow is not a problem. additional airflow will fix this problem though. if you believe your board is defective then RMA it, it may be interesting trying to get that RMA though.
  16. oh god the price on that just makes my cringe. you could get a nice raid controller and many terabyte of hdd and but them into raid 5/6 along with the case and hardware you need all for that price, believe me, i have done it.
  17. can you please go back and answer all of the questions that were asked of you so that we can properly assist you?
  18. what happens when you try to boot into normal mode now?
  19. Actually, Microsoft learned their lesson with the Vista driver fiasco. Windows 7 will use the same exact drivers that Windows XP uses...From what I am told. For the most part it's true, nearly all drivers are compatible. wow i just realized that i didn't read this properly, i read it as "Windows 7 will use the same exact drivers that Windows Vista uses". what i should have said was, you are totally wrong.
  20. i would have to afree with you coffeefiend, just prepare to be flamed by those who had issues. and not all xp x86 drivers work with vista x86, my dads 10 yr old printer.. in this case, HP said why would we care about a printer that's so old? in which i have to agree. new OSes may force ppl to upgrade some other things, it's just something that people have to accept. ppl need to stop being so cheap.
  21. assuming the panel is dead, yes. do the keyboard lights come on at all? plug in a usb mouse, does that light up at all? turn your sound on full blast to see if it reaches the login for windows.
  22. at least it wont be as bad as that egg throwing incident last year..
  23. an attempt to keep up with cluberti.. happy birthday!
