  1. Thanks a lot. Tomorrow morning I'll send it. Hope everything goes ok.
  2. It works! Thank you, I didn't know I can contact seagate directly. Another question, do I have to upload back the original firmware, or I can leave the current one? Is it a problem tha I changed it?
  3. Read the rules, that boot CD isn't on our "legal" list nor is Acronis for free last time I checked it... You have been warned. My mistake. Note taken. Are you sure about that? Did you check on the seagate site? The drive is bought in another country, the warranty is to the local seller. I do not have any documets of purchase with me. So basically this means "without warranty" for me. I don't believe I can just send the drive back to Seagate, and also not sure the transport expense will justify this. Or am I wrong here?
  4. First, I'm not sure if I have to post this into the sticky topics. If the moderators feel that way - please send it there. Seagate 7200.11 500gb model: ST3500820AS S/N 9QM0YKG5. Firmware was SD15, now is SD1A. Updated it from a boot cd. At first as I remember it started to show all the drive in bad sectors. Used HD Tune to check. Hdd Regenerator couldn't find any bad sector. A zero fill didn't help - same situation. This was one month ago. I was away for a while, so today started again, I tried 0 LBA and BSY fixes - no improvement. Actually now I can`t start windows when the drive is attached, it is visible in bios normally. Acronis director from hiren's bood cd sees the drive, even is able to format it. If I hot plug the drive, after OS is running it shows in device manager correctly, but not in my computer. When I go to computer management-storage the program freezes. If I start hd tune, it works fine with my system drive, but when I switch to ST3500820AS it freezes again. When I run live cd from hiren's, hd tune doesn't see ST3500820AS. It doesn't have warranty, so I am open to any solutions.
  5. http://www.hdtune.com/ Get the free version, check SMART status and run a bad sector check<takes about 1hr>. Use the build-in defragment program, usually a highly fragmented volume cause this noise.
  6. You really got me with this topic! . The language is greek, but anyway, you don't really need to understand them In this manner one may also patch directly the wall socket with the ATX connector on the motherboard. This insures more stable overclock. Also, as we all know, the lesser the air resistance, the easier the fan rotates. So in a complete vacuum those fans will last forever. *go6o_kara and MSFN claims no responsibility for any damage caused by use/misuse or not use at all of any method described above.
  7. The heads are parked aside from the plates when the drive is off. So in normal case of transportation there is no risk. If you make the drive feel what's being a banana in a banana shake, well, there is no force on earth to help.
  8. Blqh-blqh. To-shiba(if I tell you what it means in my language I'll probably get banned). This express my attitude to the brand. And this is not TRI-WAY SLI! It is just SLI with third GPU. So when there is no need for GPU power the system goes in a hybrid SLI mode, suspends the discrete cards and uses the on-board GPU. If somebody wanders why I do not like this brand, well I got my share. Have seen it, had enough. It of course doesn't make the rest of brands perfect and flawless.
  9. Hi there. It very much depends on the monitors, right? And you are all forgeting that part. dard_thesorrow, you didn't specify a monitor, neither the budget. First, to say, my boss owns 11 internet/game cafes which makes about 360 PC's. All hardware problems goes to me . So I have an idea what is inside and how it works. And there are some important questions. Is it going to be a smoking area? And most important, do you plan further increase of the number of PC's? Now we have a 22'' Full HD monitor 16:9, 16:10 for less than 150 euro. I talk about BENQ and ASUS models, some at 1920x1080, some at 1920x1200. And 19'', 20'' goes for around 120-130 euro. And if you take big screen, you need something to feed it properly. The 9600GT is very much CPU dependent, here the CPU cache doesn't matter this much. So my advise is for your tiny number of computers to do a little overclock, to raise the E5200(or E5300, if there is no more that 5-10 euro difference) to 3ghz. It will happen very easy even with the box fan. The only reason I talk about OC'ing is we talk for only 6 PC's. Little number->less problems. As I presume you aren't going any time soon for i7 platform, it is smarter choice to buy 4 gigs ram at 800mhz, no need for special timings here. If is not a big difference license a 64 bits Windows. As well I wander if Microsoft will allow you any more to buy XP for that purpose... But even if you can, do not. WHY? Because there are some games, and many more coming which just do not run on XP. Hard drive: 160gb is pretty much enough, but because of the very little price difference take 500gb. Somebody mentioned huge ghost images. Why pain in the a**? Make one image, keep it on the server, live nice and happy. Why bother with 6 images? After you apply one, the most you must do is change Windows serial number, so the do not overlap... Also, the PC management program: we use custom one, made for us. And we are happy with that, 'cose it sweets our needs. Your choice will be something that works correctly with Vista and 64 bits. Sorry folks, we live now and here, not in the past. About the switch: for now you can just buy a "stupid" one. It means a regular one, 8th ports. It will do: 6pc's, 1 bar pc for management, one router(preferably a PC with linux or ruteros for gateway/routing/LAN policy). When you get more than 12-16 pc's, then a "smart" switch with IP management is mandatory, else your LAN will be down on its knees. Also, you may want to employ a copy/print/fax/scan services, it is recommended to put these machines on a separate pc, an ordinary one, equip it with a DVD writer and everybody will be satisfied. The gaming mashines do not need an optical device 99% of the time, for the remaining 1% you use the multimedia pc, which can also run some music in the cafe.
  10. Flashing bios? As last line of defense of course. I think about damaged block in eeprom. Hope it is a logic error, not hardware. EDIT: Do you happen by accident to have something plugged in the PCI slot? Like a crash/recovery card?
  11. Hmm, I did assumed it is a PS/2 switch. My mistake. You may look in BIOS for an option similar to "enable usb mouse/keyboard support". If it doesn't help just play with the "halt on" option.
  12. Well, first this is HP. Have you tried this with the other PC running? Also to try with another pair of PC's? I doubt that may be the KVM powers up slowly, after the pc tries to detect peripherals. But sureli this won't be the case if the other pc is running.
  13. May i suggest a nice and simple solution? This will save you time and nerves. Buy new NIC, they cost 5-15 euros, and the more expensive ones are even 10/100/1000mbits. If you buy a cheap one, it for sure will not need an IRQ Intrerupt, so you may sleep well Else you may have to juggle between the PCI slots a bit.
  14. Yes, it is enough. It can hold it with the config from your signature, or something more hungry as well(the PSU won't feel very comfortable with a hungry quad CPU, but will do).
  15. As I advised you before - take a walk to a repair center. After the machine is working again it would be nice to share with us the results.
