Another misinformed myth of yours. Stock thermal paste isn't junk. It's been proven time and time again that the quality of thermal paste has very little bearing on the final thermal dispersion results. The quality of the bond between the two surfaces has a much great impact on the final result then the type of thermal paste. This information, as shown in the 80-way Thermal Interface Material Performance Test, cannot be more evident. you are misinformed. some stock thermal paste truly are junk and some are pretty good. both i and many others have saw a good temp drop by replacing thermal paste on both cpu and northbridge. so do not go calling it a myth. that review you posted has grades of thermal paste after all. there are also cases where the person in the factory who applied the thermal paste improperly applied it which can also be a problem.

when i expanded my array by 1 disk it took over 3 days to do so, lol. good to hear it's working though.

good to know how it works. that "smooth" effect is what i don't like though. the "hard" lines are what i do like. and i can't notice any "jaggies" at 1920x1200. i guess it may come down to personal preference or maybe our perception.

good to know that someone understands what i mean. as you said, it is sharper with cleartype off. with it on it makes words stand out more but they are not sharp at all.

i am horribly confused. is this happening without a disk in the cd drive? check your boot priorities to make sure to boot off of the cd drive first.

Zenskas - keep in mind there are many types of RPG. Some are best for pc and some are best for console. Same goes for racing, I would much rather use a wheel than a controller. Also keep in mind that you can use a controller for any PC game.

jcarle - you don't have to be rude to me all the time my initial post was to his initial post, there was no real thread yet. we eventually branched out from it. and to many, resolution/graphics is very much part of the gaming experience. why else have we gone from the atari to where we are now? so don't go saying that those things don't matter because they do. to me the pc is the ultimate entertainment platform. prices have been dropping and a high end gaming pc has become very affordable. high end graphics cards can be had for dirt cheap compared to a couple of years ago. again i am coming back to games. the wii has the worst graphics out of the current consoles but many claim that its games are more fun than games for other consoles. also the gaming style has to be addressed. consoles also miss out on some great games and they cannot handle all games made for them either. oblivion is a great game imo, looks absolutely amazing with a good gpu and it definitely helps the gaming experience. they made the game for 360 and the game lagged.. and it was on low graphics quality.. some games are built for certain reasons, be it fun, graphics, the game engine, or all three.

The current day of console gaming is expensive, they are mini computers. If you ever tore apart an xbox (I have) you would be very familiar with what is inside. You prefer FPS games and imo FPSes are meant for the pc, i have never played an FPS on a console that i thought played better than it did on the pc.

Not trying to be rude at all but is there a point to this thread? Consoles are inferior when it comes to performance, that is a given. What it really comes down to is what games do you want to play? I am perfectly happy with gaming on my pc and i also have two wireless 360 controllers that i use in a few games, they work well. Sports games are moving away from pc which makes me quite mad, madden 08 was amazing on pc, both the video and the audio kicked rocked. You will have halo if you are about it as well as other exclusives. So decide what games you want..

ya what do you mean by DOS mode? what exactly is on the screen?

my printer is hooked up via wireless to my network and its software allows for network scanning. does your printer not have any specific network installation software?

ya i would let the raid controller deal with it, not windows. if the drive is dead then i see no reason in leaving it in there as it will be of no help to you, which is why i am for cold-swapping in this case. i would have to vote for #7 since for #5, i am not sure how it will treat the new drive..

actually thats not a bad idea, when you format the hdd on install, what option are you picking, full or quick? try full.

lol, we all make those mistakes, but yes, backing up was a good thing to do. now you can play and not worry. now what you need to find out is which hdd is down. replace that. then rebuild the array. hopefully you have some sort of software for your controller that gives you the status of each drive. OR if you cant figure out which drive is bad.. since you already have it backed up, just test each drive individually, hopeful find the bad drive, check the status of the others while you are at it. then rebuild a fresh raid5 array and copy the data back over.

well we have given you some options, either RMA or change the heatsink.

um, you dont need an OS to update the bios. you typically put the bios onto a floppy disk and boot off of that.

it depends on the speed of the NAS and what type of data you are streaming... streaming HD movies you may have an issue. files/music you should have no problem.
