  1. you're NOT supposed to REGSVR32 the QDVD.DLL file. I used v6.05.1.904 of QDVD.DLL under my WinME computer [included in DirectX 9.0C package > look inside the DXNT.CAB file and extract the updated qdvd.dll file onto a Win98 or ME computer] and have found no problems (and I did NOT need to use the "regsvr32 qdvd.dll" command). so the Q872901 & Q836880 DX9 fixes are included in DirectX 9.0c.
  2. I installed all of LLXX's Copy2GB fixes under several old Win98FE/98SE/ME machines and they didn't mess anything up on them. they're definitely keepers.
  3. CLASYS, you may want to ask MDGx on how the official and unofficial Q832353 WMP patches work.
  4. my point exactly, CLASYS. there are some PC monitors out there like the one Drugwash mentioned that require SYS, DLL, EXE or even DRV drivers. I guess bledd did not know about the Horizon 7002D monitor using a SYS driver.
  5. because I am STILL skeptical and I do NOT believe it until you have shown and conducted further testing of v4.00.1113 of ndis.vxd on an actual Win95 SR2 machine with a 2.1GHz CPU. post your results so that I can be fully convinced, Petr.
  6. no Petr. 4.00.1113 of ndis.vxd does NOT fix the Q312108 problems under ANY version of Win95. Win95 has other missing functions or "dependencies" in their VXD and DLL files that were included in Win98/ME's DLL/VXD files. take for instance KERNEL32.DLL. compare version 4.10.2222 of kernel32.dll with 4.00.950, 4.00.1111 and 4.03.1212 of kernel32.dll unfortunately, the Q273468 hotfix for Win95 [bundled in IomegaWare software and Iomega drivers and I do use an old Iomega 100Mb parallel ZIP drive] installs ESDI_506.PDR version 4.00.1116 under original release of Win95. I did use 4.00.1119 of esdi_506.pdr under original Win95 edition and I had no problems. but that was just for testing purposes only. had to remove original Win95 off an old PC and installed Win95 OSR2 to get FAT32 and DMA support for HDs. PCI bus mastering is not included in original version of Win95 and was added in the OSR2 releases.
  7. EH, who needs IE7 if we're using Win98se or WinME? Download and install the Yahoo! Toolbar for IE from the Yahoo Downloads page: http://downloads.yahoo.com/ click on the link to download the latest release of Yahoo Toolbar for IE. The latest releases of the Yahoo Toolbar for Internet Explorer will add a Popup Blocker and Tabbed browsing to your existing version of IE. I've installed the Yahoo Toolbar and IE6 SP1 can now display tabs in IE on my WinME machine. NEAT! min requirements for IE Yahoo Toolbar are Win98se & IE 5.5. and besides, IE7 RC is still buggy. good thing I didnt install IE7 RC on my other PC that has XP SP2.
  8. Do NOT get the Flash Player 8 app from the Adobe Knowledge base article. the fp8_archive.zip file from the KB article still has Flash player 8 version 8.0.24.0 as I've just checked right now. Get the one listed at the Flash Player downloads page as mentioned by LLXX. OR use this link to download Flash Player 8.0.33: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl..._flash8_win.zip this one DOES have Flash Player 8.0.33.0 but they come in "debug" and "release" editions and as MSI installers. You MUST use the "release" edition of the Flash Player 8.0.33 MSI packages.
  9. It won't work since mspatch does not rely on COM. mspatch functions are extremely easy to use. API is described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default..../bdcapitech.asp I use them in RPLite V [English]. It is easy but requires some weird string format. all right. I wasnt clear to some people when I asked "what is the syntax for using the MSPATCHA.DLL file w/out using any third party tools?" I should ask it this way. Can I use MSPATCHA.DLL by using RUNDLL32.EXE? (ex. RUNDLL32 MSPATCHA.DLL,<whatever valid command or commands "mspacha" will accept>
  10. MY way of installing WMP9 under Win98 FE is even better, galahs & MDGx. Didnt you guys read my post on how to do that by editing the control.xml file from the "WMP 10 in Windows 98" thread? BETTER than editing the registry! Changing the registry values to the following: ProductName Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition Version Windows 98SE VersionNumber 4.10.2222 and I have found serious side effects as I can no longer install certain Win98fe specific hotfixes on a Win98fe computer. So I changed the reg values back to their original settings and I can install Win98fe specific patches again. Realize that the setup_wm.exe file reads the contents of the control.xml file during install of WMP9. so I figured that the control.xml file needed to be edited to make the setup_wm.exe file install the WMP files on certain versions of Windows listed according to the control.xml file. so my method of editing the control.xml file (and I tested it several times on different PCs) is more reliable, safer and barely no side effects. and if you want to install WMP9 under Win95 [though I do NOT recommend it since WMP9 may not work properly under 95] edit the control.xml file and change 4.10.2222 to 4.00.950 and save changes to the control.xml file and run setup_wm.exe to install Media Player 9.
  11. Don't worry, it's supposed to do that. The official Ms patch works the same way. in other words, it's normal for Dr Watson to report KB891711 "altering system files" that dont bother me. win98se/winme will work just fine ditto for official MS KB918547 patch
  12. then again maybe not. I'll stick with programs that use GUI instead of command line interface to change the date/time attributes
  13. you may want to use Quicktime Alternative to play Apple Quicktime files: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...alternative.cfm MPlayer cant play quicktime files created in newer versions.
  14. unfortunately, the newer Q316638 hotfix that has portcls.sys build 3002 is no longer available. MS only has the original Q316638 hotfix with portcls.sys build 3001.
  15. nice tool to disable or enable Flash, Drugwash AVOID installing Flash player 8 or 9 on your ol' 200Mhz PC (how much RAM does your 200Mhz computer have?) those versions are major resource drainers. Flash 8 and 9 are best suited for 600Mhz CPUs with at least 128Mb of RAM.
  16. the unofficial update should i apply official update and then the unofficial yes. apply the official MS KB918547 update for Win98, install the Win98 KB918547 QFE registry fix from MDGx's web site and then apply the unofficial KB918547 patches. see this topic on U918547 patches: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=77218
  17. and to prove my point on PC monitors needing drivers, look in the \WINDOWS\INF\ folder, regardless of Windows version. you'll see a bunch of monitor*.inf files for many PC monitors. also, try buying a Dell monitor like the M781P model or an HP MX50, MX70 or MX90 monitor and connect any of these monitors to a Win98 SE computer. Win98se will detect these monitors AND ask for their drivers. if you dont provide them, they may not work correctly without the specific drivers. oh, to answer Drugwash's post about the Horizon 7002D monitor and its drivers, try this link (Yahoo! found it): http://www.tici5.tvn.hu/horizon7002d.rar
  18. LLXX, have you tested the Copy2Gb Kernel32.dll patches the anonymous author made? and I saw this earlier in this thread:
  19. exactly, PROBLEMCHYLD! I hope some people like Big Monstro dont ask in the future when the next release of 98se SP will come out. if anyone else wants to b*tch about that will have to answer to me. the next version is inevitable but we all need to wait patiently for Gape to release it.
  20. well that's Acer's problem, Fredledingue! they didn't make a Win98 driver for the Acer AL1916 monitor and only made one for XP. a driver for a computer case? pssshhh, please! seriously there are several plug 'n play monitors out there that DO require drivers that are just INF files. UH SOME new monitors DO actually need certain monitor drivers, LLXX, especially when using HP or Dell computer monitors [yeah, hello!]. HEY I had to install a driver for the HP mx50 computer monitor on my WinME computer to make the monitor work correctly under ME. I even had to install a WinME driver for the Dell m781p monitor on my aunt's Dell Optiplex WinME computer because WinME doesnt have built-in drivers for it and asks for them. however, WinXP does have a built-in driver for the Dell m781p plug 'n play monitor. so I definitely beg to differ on "monitors not needing drivers" unless the Windows OS has built-in drivers for them. I know this from experience with connecting monitors to PCs.
  21. have you applied the official MS KB918547 patch for Win98 SE? OR the UNofficial KB918547 patch listed on MDGx's web site?
  22. I believe things should be working smoothly now with Flash Player 9 and Sun Java 5.0 updated 7 installed. Inspect the "Windows\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player" folder if using Win9x/ME or "Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player" folder if using WinXP/2003 where "username" is, of course, your user name. delete these folders after un-installing Flash Player before re-installing it.
  23. you mean the tech guy "Windows 98 + ME *still* alive" campaign" thread is closed (locked) your graphics card can only work for 800x600 screen resolution, FoxHound? that's sad. my old computer has a 2Mb video card that can use up to 1280x1024 resolution and up to 32bit True Color [16.7 million colors] mode and running Win98se. how much video RAM does your old video card have?
  24. sad truth about the Acer AL1916 monitor is that it is XP compatible only. read here: http://www.thealders.net/blogs/2005/12/08/hmmmm/ this kind of monitor hates any version of win98/me and some Diamond Stealth graphics cards so find another monitor (ViewSonic monitors are wonderful and their drivers are compatible with Win98 SE).
  25. same here, I get error message registering MSREPL40.DLL with unofficial 910906 patch under a WinME computer. I dont think it is necessary to "RegSrv" the MSREPL40.DLL file. original XP KB910906 hotfix does NOT "DllregisterServer" the DLL files. remove the RegisterOCXs=RG and [RG] sections from the Q910906.inf file and revise unofficial 910906 patch for Win9x/ME/2000/NT4. PROBLEMCHYLD, can you be more specific on Q918547 not registering? do you mean the Q918547 files do not show up on QFECheck or that the Q918547 files are not registered by REGSVR32.EXE?
