  1. LLXX, do you mean 67 degrees Celsius, or 67 degrees Fahrenheit? then what does Device Manager say about the network adapter, big3b? Open the System control panel app and click on Device manager tab and expand the Network Adapters section. my DFI CM33-TL mobo came with a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC network adapter as listed in the Network Adapters seciton of Device Manager on my WinXP computer. try adjusting the CPU jumpers on the mobo to change the v-core voltage. or try updating the bios to see if it can support cpus with 1.35 v-core. if those two suggestions do not work, then you have to replace the cpu with one that is 1.75 v-core or higher.
  2. I'll contact MS and they'll make a correction to their security bulletin. Still waiting for "Kernel32.dll 2GB-4GB files with proper fixed API" 4.10.2002 patch for Win98 FE.
  3. our local US M$ support is no longer offering hotfixes for products that are "out of support" note to Petr: thanx for your latest PM but at least pick up the pace and send me whatever Win95 hotfixes you get ASAP
  4. you can also use File Manager [winfile.exe] to work around the problem and just delete the large number of files from within File Manager instead of Windows Explorer. WinFile does not hang when removing a very large number of files from there. sure, Winfile does not understand long filenames but there is an add-on called FMLFNs that provides long filename support for Win9xME's File Manager applet. Get FMLFNs here: http://www.wincorner.com/files/fmlfns95.exe
  5. all we need now is a "Win98 FE kernel32.dll fix" for 2-4GB file copying. I'd be outraged if there isn't one. To get the benefit of the 923762 fix included in 918899 V2, install the RTMQFE edition (NOT the RTMGDR variety) to update the URLMON.DLL file to the one mentioned in MS article 923762. be sure to add the QFEInstalled DWORD registry with a value of 1 under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" key in Regedit before using IE918899.exe
  6. likewise. however, MS revised KB918899 for IE6SP1 for Win2000 SP4/WinXP SP1 on August 24 instead of August 22. If you install the RTMQFE edition of 918899 for IE6 SP1 the patch should update the URLMON.DLL file to version 6.0.2800.1567. You MUST install the RTMQFE edition of 918899 to get the benefit of the 923762 hotfix as it will not work with just installing the RTMGDR edition of 918899.
  7. another "light-weight" app similar to Portable Firefox is K-Meleon: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/ works even under slow intel 486 machines with less RAM
  8. I have posted here the iexpress installers for 98SE + ME: WinME fix below here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU New > 2 GB Files Kernel patch now fixes correct API function [setFilePointer]: * Unofficial Windows ME 2-4 GB Files Errors KERNEL32.DLL 4.90.3001 Fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=318293 Direct download [329 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/C2GBME.EXE More info: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=81200 Win98SE fix below here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU New > 2 GB Files Kernel patch now fixes correct API function [setFilePointer]: * Unofficial Windows 98 SE 2-4 GB Files Errors KERNEL32.DLL 4.10.2226 Fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=318293 Direct download [261 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/COPY2GB.EXE More info: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=81200 These 2 patches also linked here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 Hope this helps. MDGx, can the anonymous author patch the KERNEL32.DLL file for Win98 FE and update it to version 4.10.2002?
  9. I did read a post of mine saying I completely disagree on RAM slowing down with age in early 2005. do you think I was right all along, MDGx?
  10. HLINK.DLL file from unofficial 920670 does NOT install and asks for the file. I already found the problem with U920670's INF file and sent a revised one to MDGx a few days ago and Q920670.exe file should work now.
  11. well not everybody living on this planet can't use Win98se in english but it would be nice if other people helped out in patching the kernel _llseek 2gb problem for other language editions of Win98se. I like winxpi's suggestion of translating the patched kernel file into a different language for those who use Win98se in other languages. Wincorner's FMView & FMLFNs tools are NOT freeware, they're shareware. at least they're "no nag" shareware as MDGx mentioned FMLFNs on his 98SE2ME readme.txt file. some advantages of using Winfile than Windows Explorer, eidenk, are that Winfile loads a lot faster than Explorer and that Winfile does NOT suffer from the "deleting large number of files" bug that hangs Explorer for a while. when deleting a very large number of files & folders in Explorer and IE6 SP1 is installed under Win98/ME, Explorer hangs but when deleting a very large number of files/folders in File Manager, Winfile does not hang. also, you are allowed to change the "System" attribute of files & folders in Winfile. btw - LLXX and eidenk, can you comment on what CLASYS said about "RAM slowing down with age" here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=34960
  12. Win98se's WORDPAD.EXE and Spider Solitaire game are the two programs I know of that will choke with a "link to missing export" error message with Win95's shell32.dll file. using Option 3 of the 98se2me pack will also resolve the empty taskbar screen saver icon problem mentioned in MS article 280722 and keep the bug from getting worse as I have verified this on a Win98se computer using 98se2me. You'll need IE 5.5 or better for option 3.
  13. guess not. like Tihiy said, a d^mn shame M$ didnt have the guts to make 908531 fixes for Win98/ME.
  14. can you be a little more specific on the Intel 865 board, krick? is it Intel D865PERC, D865PERL or D865PESO board? check the Intel web site for the latest downloads for your Intel 865 board. if you are going to upgrade to Intel 875P board, you better be using Win2000 or XP. Intel doesn't have drivers for Intel 875P board for Win98/ME unless it is specifically the Intel D875PBZ board. the D875PBZ board can be used under Win98se/ME/2000/XP.
  15. 1 better http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=551960 you can also install PWS from the \Add-ons\PWS\ folder of the Win98 FE/SE CD.
  16. ok never mind. perhaps there's no need for a copy2gb patch for win2000.
  17. my sentiments exactly, LLXX and hp38guser. File Manager [Winfile.exe] is a lousy tool for copying files, especially when copying files with long filenames which will truncate them. once you copy files with long filenames with winfile, you'll lose the long names for good and you will have to rename them in Explorer to get back your long filenames. the NT4 version of Winfile.exe which I use under my WinXP computer can use long filenames and dont have the 2GB copy problem.
  18. This is a discussion here about the 2Gb+ copy files problem (but it also applies to Win2000): http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=81200 the 2GB+ copy problem for Win2000 is only fixed when using Windows Explorer to copy files that are 2gigs or bigger. If you use another program to copy 2gb+ files and uses the _llseek API function from kernel32.dll file of Win2k, it may not copy the 2gb files. You can use the Make2Gb tool to verify if the _llseek API function in Win2000 kernel32.dll file works correctly or not. Download it here: http://z11.zupload.com/file.php?filepath=40201
  19. I was talking about Windows Explorer, not File Manager, eidenk. If you copy a 2Gb file from within Explorer (not File Manager or any other app) in WinME, it will copy ok without WinME kernel patch. Excuse me please, but you said it didn't make sense to patch the WinME kernel32.dll at all : because the Copy2Gb+ "explorer" problem was ALREADY fixed in WinME [no duh!] if you use something else (and NOT windows explorer) to copy 2GB+ files and it fails, then you may need the ME kernel patch. maybe I wasnt quite clear on that. now it should be. eidenk, do u use windows explorer to copy files? or do u use another program to do that? BTW - you are free to use the WinME kernel 2Gb patch if you want. I'm not going to stop you or any other ME user out there. feel free to test it out if it works okay on your ME computer. I also get the "Issuing_llseek call" message when running the tool under Win2000, XP and Server 2003. I happen to find newer kernel32.dll files for Win2000, XP & 2003 listed in MS security bulletin MS06-051: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-051.mspx maybe these can also be candidates for patching the 2GBcopy problem under Win2000/XP. If Windows 2000 uses_llseek and is able to copy files > 2Gb correctly, then the problem must reside in _llseek function in kernel32.dll.Also, would increasing the buffer size beyond the default 64k make for faster copying? I'm not so sure if Win2000/XP kernel files use "_llseek" to copy 2gb+ files correctly. As I stated above, I ran your MAKE2GB.EXE tool under Win2k/XP and the tool fails. I have started a new topic about the Copy2Gb problem but for Win2000 here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=81450
  20. V3 Windows Update site only works for Win95, winxpi. V4 Windows Update site works only for Win98/ME. I visited the WU sites with different versions of Windows to prove that. you did not fix the unofficial HLINK.DLL [Q920670.EXE] and unofficial MSXML3.DLL [Q909363.EXE] patches, MDGx. they still do not work. please make these corrections and repost the patches.
  21. also another thing to do is to put the TWEAKUI.CNT, TWEAKUI.CPL & TWEAKUI.HLP files inside SUPP.CAB file in the ME service pack. that's what I did with the 98fe SP. saves some space. You will have to put the "LayoutFile = slayout2.inf" line under the [Version] section of the TWEAKUI.INF file and remove the [sourceDisksFiles] section. Now the ME SP will install the TweakUI files from SUPP.CAB file.
  22. I was talking about Windows Explorer, not File Manager, eidenk. If you copy a 2Gb file from within Explorer (not File Manager or any other app) in WinME, it will copy ok without WinME kernel patch. LLXX, I wonder if you can take a look at the _llseek kernel32.dll codes for Windows 2000, XP & Server 2003. do those versions need to be patched or not? also can you comment on what CLASYS said about "RAM slowing down with age" here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=34960 I have kernel32.dll files versions 5.0.2195.6688, 5.1.2600.2180 and 5.2.3790.1830. Let me know if you need them. BTW - thanks for the kernel patches for win98fe/se/winme
  23. I have recently tested unofficial HLINK.DLL KB920670 (Q920670.exe) and MSXML3.DLL KB909363 (Q909363.exe) patches for Win98/ME/NT4. They do NOT work as they ask for those files and can not find them. I found flaws in the 920670.inf and kb909363.inf files. [sourceDiskNames] should be changed to [sourceDisksNames] in both of those INF files (yup, add the "s" after Disk). Make the change and the unofficial patches will work. also the direct download link to Frontpage 2000 Server extensions listed on MDGx's IE page: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/products/frontpag...e2k_x86_eng.exe this version is 4.0.2.4317! the same one from the MS Windows Update site: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...7AA803C071A.exe Both FPSE 2k downloads are exactly the same whether or not it is download from MS FTP or MS WU site. Frontpage 2000 Server Extensions version 4.0.2.5526 (v1.3) is NOT available anymore at ANY Microsoft site whether HTTP or FTP. FPSE 2k version 4.0.2.5526 can be downloaded here: http://www.download.com/Frontpage-2000-Ser...4-10106086.html
  24. It means _llseek is flawed, but WinME SHELL32.DLL sidesteps the problem by using SetFilePointer API instead.I have obtained ME kernel and it is in the queue for patching. Also, KERNEL32.DLL 4.10.2225 and 4.10.2001 are now available for download. a WinME kernel patch is really unnecessary since the WinME shell32.dll SetFilePointer API function "sidesteps" the problem. plus the ME patch may cause a few old programs (like the ones that seek beyond the beginning of a file) to crash as I read somewhere in the readme.txt file. So I will AVOID using the ME kernel patch since the Copy2GB problem is already fixed in WinME. Why try to fix the Copy2GB problem with the ME kernel patch when it is already fixed in ME? doesnt make sense.
