  1. note MDGx that you have to create your own MSBATCH.INF file. Normally that file does not exist when performing Win98fe/se/ME setup. some OEMs do provide an MSBATCH.INF file on their machines but not others. I believe MS Batch 98 can be used to create an MSBATCH.INF file for Win98 setup. See MS article 214727 on how to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/214727/en-us Also see MS article 263281 on an issue when entering an OEM Product Key when running MSBATCH.INF setup: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263281/en-us and look at MS article 182747 on an issue when Win98 setup prompts you to enter TimeZone info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182747/en-us
  2. you only patched the original kernel32 DLL file for win98se. can you work on patching the kernel file for Win98FE? also LLXX, what is your take on what CLASYS said of all RAM slowing down with age? I think he talked about it here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=34960
  3. OOPSIE, the_guy. Microsoft has just changed their mind. They will NOT re-release MS06-042 for Win2k SP4/WinXP SP1 today August 22 as they've found new problems with it. See MS security bulletin MS06-042 now and look in the "Caveats" section: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS06-042.mspx oh and read this Bink.nu article as MS06-042 for IE6 SP1 seems to "open" a new security vulnerability: http://bink.nu/Article8130.bink If that's true, then I will advise NOT to install MS06-042 for IE6 SP1
  4. ahh, good point, RJARRRPCGP. the debate goes on whether or not RAM gets slower with age.Exactly my point.RAM does *not* slow down. The only degradation that can happen within RAM chips occurs when electrons migrate, and in such cases, the user will experience errors booting, loading the OS/apps etc. Thanks for the clarification. wow, I'd like to see how CLASYS responds to this. not everyone will accept what he said of memory slowing down with age. so MDGx, have you tested the MemTest86+ app yet?
  5. See this topic for unofficial 2GbCopy patch for Win98: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=81200
  6. no it will not. Q918547 provides the same security fix as Q912919 except Q912919 also bundles GDI files for Win98fe.
  7. in that case, download & install the updated 98se2me pack from MDGx's web site.
  8. ...the problem is with shell32.dll. You also need to patch kernel32.dll version 4.10.1998 (and version 4.10.2001 from Q320798) for Win98 FE, LLXX. Let's not forget, the 2GB+ copy problem also occurs under Win98 FE as noted in MS article 318293. patching kernel32.dll files from Win95? I believe Win95 also has the 2GB+ copy problem but the Win95 kernel32.dll files are missing a bunch of functions that were included in the Win98 FE/SE versions of kernel32.dll files.
  9. thanks MDGx. can you make an unofficial 48bit LBA 4.00.1119 esdi_506.pdr fix for Win95 SR2?
  10. Can he take a look at the code of U912919 of v4.10.2003 of the gdi.exe and gdi32.dll files? nah, I dont like the idea of using 4.10.2227 under Win98 FE as it may break Win98 FE or cause BSOD errors. I'm going to re-create the Q231942 ios.vxd 4.00.1114 fix for Win95 SR2 as the patch is faulty and wont install the updated ios.vxd file. I'll send you the "corrected" Q231942 patch ASAP.
  11. are the other WSH 5.6 files like cscript.exe, wscript.exe and wshom.ocx included in IE7 beta 3?
  12. changes to beta 4: -made some changes/corrections to the license.txt file that should mention "Windows 98 Standard Edition" -fixed installation issue with the SP when the previous beta cannot install because Outlok Express was not installed; B4 of the 98fe SP will install the 98fe Hotfixes with or without OE installed -updated esdi_506.pdr to the 48bit LBA edition made by LLXX -updated msvcrt.dll to version 6.1.9846 -removed kb918547.exe & q918547.dll files; the gdi.exe & gdi32.dll files from U912919 also fix the MS06-026 security problems -added windows media player 6.4 build 1129 -updated usp10.dll file to version 1.422.3790.2706
  13. ahh, good point, RJARRRPCGP. the debate goes on whether or not RAM gets slower with age.
  14. Don't think so because the browselc.dll file is also a culprit. Not even close, PROBLEMCHYLD. Note the"delete large files" problem only occurs under Win98 & ME and does not happen under Win2000/XP. MUST use BROWSEUI.DLL file from IE 5.5 SP2 KB905915 patch and BROWSELC.DLL file from IE 5.5 SP2. anyway, I use xplorer2 to delete or even shred large number of files and will not hang my Win98/ME machines. MDGx, can the author of unofficial 918547 gdi.exe & gdi32.dll v4.10.2227 Win98se update, patch the gdi.exe and gdi32.dll files for Win98fe and release them as v4.10.2004?
  15. what version of Win98 are you installing, Kelsenellenelvian? Win98 FE (4.10.1998) or Win98 SE (4.10.2222). note that Win98 OEM serial nos. are not compatible for "retail" editions of Win98 and vice-versa. OEM editions of Win98 FE/SE use a slightly different install sequence than the retail editions of Win98 FE/SE.
  16. anyone else want to comment of what CLASYS said in his posts?
  17. Dispex.dll versions 5.6.0.8515, 5.6.0.8825 and higher BREAK IE 5.5/6.0's Print and Print Preview functions under Win9xME. If you run IE 5.5 SP2 or IE 6.0 SP1 under Win9xME, and have Dispex.dll 5.6.0.8825 and you try to use the Print or Print Preview function of Internet Explorer, IE will display a "script error" message and the Print/Print Preview features of IE no longer work correctly. That's why we should stick with version 5.6.0.6626 of the dispex.dll file. Microsoft did the right thing on not updating the dispex.dll file to higher versions when they released WSH 5.6 build 8825 for Win98/ME/NT4. Just like not updating the oleaut32.dll file. Oleaut32.dll versions 2.40.4526 & higher dont work correctly under Win9x/ME/NT4.
  18. there is no mstcp.vxd file in win98se, charles__. I think you mean mstcp.dll I would also copy ALL of the Win98SE setup files from the Win98se CD onto the hard drive (hey, there's PLENTY of space so there is NO excuse whatsoever not to store all the Win98se setup files on the hard drive). I'd put them in the \WIN98SE\ folder and then change the SourcePath registry entry to point to that folder on the HD so that I wont be asked for the Win98se CD when adding a component from Add/Remove programs Windows Setup tab. the TCP/IP protocol is listed in the Network control panel applet, not in the System properties Device Manager box. I would also check the configuration of the fast ethernet network adapter in Device Manager. What kind of ethernet network adapter are you using, big3b?
  19. also can you include versions 5.6.0.8827 of the cscript.exe, scrobj.dll, wscript.exe, wshext.dll and wshom.ocx files? these files are from Win2003 SP1.
  20. WEBVW.DLL should be re-numbered to version 5.50.4134.7069 not 5.50.4134.7061. The webvw.dll file for Win2k SP4 KB900725 update is version 5.00.3900.7069.
  21. your welcome, Waywyrd. from now on MDGx and I expect you to make future posts in the link he provided for the 98SE2ME subject instead of here. If you need it again, here it is: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349
  22. I'm going to test out Portable Firefox versions 1.5.0.6 and 2.0 beta 1 under Win95 SR2 and Win98 FE to see if they work OK. I'm going to ditch the Bon Echo "nightly" builds which seem to crash immediately under Win95 after the FF browser loads.
  23. that one is for Portable Firefox versions 1.5.0.x. Here's the link for Portable Firefox version 2.0 beta 1: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/test
  24. this is the first time someone like KIKI as ever asked for an unofficial Win95 SP. I may consider creating an unofficial Win95 OSR2 URP [update rollup pack] which is close to a service pack but unlike an SP, it will install a bunch of Win95 SR2 fixes without the INFEX dialog box, meaning there will be no option to select what to install. I may get started on this in September and put the 98fe SP project on hold for a few months. The Win95 SR2 URP will only be compatible with versions B and C of Win95 and not versions A and the original version of Win95. There are still a few users out there still using Win95 but I assume they are using Win95 SR2 version B or C.
  25. Beta 4 of unofficial 98FE SP2.04 no longer posted: <links to beta 4 removed>
