  1. Is discussion of Kazaa permitted, or does it fall foul of Forum Rule #1??
  2. The problem with that method is all the changes you have to make for each program which accesses the Internet, and what if you want to allow access, you have to undo those changes and then put them back again. You method would be more efficient if you used "groups" and not individual users, that way access is done by group membership and not by individual NTFS permissions.
  3. I would have thought that most "proxy" programs could do this for you. CCProxy, for example.
  4. You can download a subset of them from the Microsoft website, the rest you will have to either buy or get a copy of the Resource Kit CD. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techi...ls/default.mspx
  5. A screenshot of the complete NTFS permissions would be useful here.
  6. Above 35
  7. They've modified it since the first version; I'm actually warming to it now.
  8. Mine's just an upgrade from FAT32.
  9. WOOF!
  10. Actually, I use 2 burner applications: Nero 7 and Easy Media Creator 7.5. Belt 'n' Braces, you might say.
  11. My first question is: Why on Earth are you using FAT32 with Windows 2000/XP??
  12. Personally, I would keep your router as the DHCP server. However, all you have to do is configure your 2003 DHCP server to issue the IP address of your router (the default gateway) and all should be well.
  13. Do you actually need 2 ethernet cards in the first computer?
  14. I installed the beta, and then promptly uninstalled it!
  15. It's part of the XP Update. (KB831240) That's the HighMAT CD writing code. Just download and install from the Microsoft Update website.
  16. Good for you!
  17. ICS installs a mini DHCP server on the machine with the Internet connection, it will by default give that machine an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and any clients 192.168.0.2..254. ICS is under "Network Tasks" after you click on My Network Places - I think.
  18. If you setup your computers as DHCP clients then no, they should automatically be given that info when you switch them on. That is if you run the ICS wizard.
  19. I mean a single ethernet rj45 cable wired as a crossover cable.
  20. If it's just 2 computers, then you only need a crossover ethernet cable.
  21. I have 3 of those in different servers and they all work perfectly. However, I had to scour the Internet for the correct drivers. The ones supplied on the CD were less than useless. Give me an email address and I can send them to you if you so wish.
  22. If they are all "lossless", then surely, by definition, it doesn't matter which one you use?
  23. Converting to a Dynamic Disk will do NO HARM WHATSOEVER. It WILL NOT delete any existing data. In fact, it will make the disk more versatile.
  24. When I built my latest computer, I utterly refused to include a floppy drive. Here we are in the 21st Century and people still use floppy disks?? They don't store very much data (1.32Mb) they're unreliable and easily damaged. You don't have to boot from them anymore, so why have one? They haven't changed for at least 15 years, imagine if other components hadn't changed in 15 years, where would we be? Long live USB memory!
